I’m relatively new to playing guitar, and I bought a Katana 100 awhile back. I’m 57, and somewhat electronically challenged… LOL! I wondered about hooking up a Stomp box or any type of pedal to my amp, my local music store couldn’t give me a straight answer. This video did, and I’m much happier knowing what lurks in my study… There’s quite a bit to this amp, and like many things guitar- I’m still learning and exploring. It’s good to know this information is out there.
The 100 has plug holes in the back for hooking up pedalboard chains called “input” and “output” You just have to put the start and end of the board in there and it makes your effects line up in a way where there is no bad overlap or buzz or anything else to account for (ie your gate will block your buzz from any distortion you add before). You don’t get this feature on the 50 watt.
I have the Boss MK1 100. I have my channel set to "clean". Volume maxed & gain set to 0, I let the master volume control the sound & depending on the time of day I'll select the 100w, 50w or "bedroom" amp setting. W/o any distortion effects used the sound is truly crystal clear. As far as distorion type pedals I use Azor Fuzz or Azor Heavy Metal pedal connected to the front of the amp & a Azor Spring Reverb pedal thru the effects loop.
This is really no-brainer stuff but I actually admire Boss quite a bit for making a video like this. I would have loved this kind of content when I started playing guitar
The Boss Katana an amazing amp. Boss should include an instruction video with the amp telling in detail how to use it. I'll bet it would greatly reduce the amount of returns Boss gets.
Would it make any sense to run a Boss ME-80 into the Katana 50? I understand that there would be some duplication of effects available, but I find the layout of the ME-80 board much more intuitive and easier to understand than using the on-line Tone Studio. But, many comments say that the ME-80 really needs a tube amp to sound good. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I have a Boss Katana Mk2 100, i Also have a Boss pedal board (Phaser, Octave, Chorus, Super Overdrive, Delay & a power supply pedal..i havent used the pedals since i bought the Katana Mk2 100 since all of those (except the Super Overdrive) come stock on the Amp’s effects; but recently I finally got a Original Cry Baby Wah pedal, im not sure if i’ve been hooking it up correct with the MK2 100, i’ve been plugging the input into the top (beside all the knobs) & running that cable into the side of the Cry Baby Wah that says “amplifier” & then pluging a cable into my guitar & running that into the other side of the Cry Baby pedal that says “instrument” (this pedal i currently run on battery, dont currently know how to attach it with my boss pedal board with power supply). My question is, am I running the Cry baby wah pedal correctly for the Katana MK2 100, or should i be plugging my guitar into the top Input of the Katana Mk2 100 & plugging the cry baby wah pedal into one of the inputs in the back of the MK2 100? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks & keep up the great content! (Also can i run external effects & internal effects at the same time? For ex, if i wanted a lot of overdrive & ran the booster with Blues Overdrive on the Amp, & also run my Boss Super OverDrive pedal at the same time...or run my Boss Delay pedal, with delay on the amp for major delay lol..is this possible/ok for the Katana Mk2 100?)
Ok so can I or can I not use my me80 (for volume or expression)and gafc footswitch on my mkii artist? I bought both new and would really appreciate some help here lol
Hi, the Katana is absolutely great, but I wonder if it is possible to record audio tracks directly to an android device, through some app for example, using the OTG cable?
I have tried to run my pedals into the Boss Katana 50 mk2. Some worked, some didn't. I found that a ProCo Rat2 really sounded bad. Some pedals are designed specifically for tube amps (which I've had great results using my Rat2). Other drive pedals I have used with this Katana with better results include: JRockett Blue Note, Revv G3, Dunlop Way Huge Fat Sandwich.
We have similar set up. Right now for fun I’m running guitar > tuner > EHX Octavix > EarthQuaker Hoof > JHS 3 Series OD > Walrus Audio Julia V2. I had to play around a lot in the chain with my ProCo Rat but found the sweet spot for the Rat. I have a big box rat and a modern Rat but was able to find a good placement. I’m not familiar with the Rat2, but I’d recommend playing with the chain. I was able to get some sweet sounds out of it. I do use it as a fuzz though.
@@LoudGuitarSounds thanks for the reply. I generally don't use the rat as a fuzz. my main problem is viewing it as an AB comparison to my tube amps. I will try to use it as a fuzz into the katana. I always liked the clarity of the lower settings (note separation).
@@joe7string I also use a Rat into my Katana 50W. The filter cuts your highs. I’d dial that in a bit, lower the distortion. You could be dealing with volume issues as well. When you’re running a chain, I like to think of “volume” as frequency drive. Depending on your guitar, volume knob is a best friend.
Hi Austin! Is it possibld to change the Ch1, Ch2 and Panel settings? I think I saw something about being possible to add a Roland Chorus amp simulator on the Katana. Am I correct?
I am a disabled veteran I'm afraid the katana boss mk50 is a puzzle to me can you show me a video of exactly how to hook up my pedals to it what inputs can you show the inputs you plug into I'm going to call the music store in frustration I don't like the amp because it's not easy to use pedals on it I come from a simpler time in the 90s
Hi, I am using my Bossb GT-100 into the powerv amp in of my Katana MKII 50W, I use the Combo send return setting in my GT-100, How should the 3 paramenets in the katana including Hi Pass Filter settings should be setup for optimum tone
I've got a Electroharmonix Fuzz pedal but whenever I plug it in the sounds pitches (volume goes up and down) Something wrong with the pedal or cables? Or maybe some settings need changing? Or do I get a compressor? Pretty new to pedals here
Do a simple troubleshoot. Plug the guitar straight into the amp with one of the cables and see if it still happens. Swap the cable out for the other one and then see if it still happens. If it happens for one but not the other, then it’s that cable. If it happens for neither, it’s not the cables. If it happens for both, it’s also probably not the cables. Then try using a different guitar right into the amp and see if it still happens. If it still happens, it’s not the guitar. If it stops, it is your guitar. Try a different amp. If it stops, it is your amp. If it continues, it isn’t. Now, if you never heard the volume fluctuate(go up and down) in all your trials without the pedal, then that means the problem has to be with the pedal, and not anything else. If it is in fact a problem with the pedal, I would return it and get a new one. If the problem is minor, a compressor would probably do the trick. Hope this was helpful.
I have Boss fs-5l pedal..how do I get matching volume when using pedal and switching between clean and overdrive? Currently, overdrive is so much louder than my clean...thanks!
His amp us set to the brown setting but he's on a different channel that doesn't use the panel settings. You can save presets on the boss katana and they will sound that way no mater the panel settings except the master volume
@@EnvyOw yes you can add effects no mater what on any setting weather it be clean, acoustic, or brown etc. I was saying that lets say you are playing in the brown channel on your katana using the panel. reverb and delay, put them in the effects loop. if no effects loop, then put them last, after OD or boost, or modulation
