The Ghost Towns of Malaysia were a byproduct of many bad stars that aligned. Started with big hopes, but because of a change in leadership, covid-19, and a few other things, the planned 700k capacity Forest City was eventually left deserted with only 1.3% of the houses filled.
Now with the new Sultan of Johor, and the RTS being built with the Forest City as a Station, there are new plans of renovating and repurposing the city with a casino! Could this be a bad thing for Singapore?

This is a good news! The King of Malaysia should buy off Country Garden share of this city and revive it as a fully Malaysian owned City. Get rid of Chinese involvement. They are the reason why this city became a ghost city. Look what they did Sinouxville Cambodia, they ruined this beautiful tourist heaven!

Forest city is too far away from international airports in KL or Singapore, very inconvenience for tourists to travel there ie not enough visitors to make the casino to succeed, thereafter becomes ghost casino.

Building a casino alone will not threaten much as it requires an entire concept of things to attract traveller. This didn't worry us much in the past as our entire tourism infrastructure is well established as compared to our neighbour. However, with the RTS, anything our neighbor does will have implications on us as it is going to have almost seamless connection that leverage on our infrastructure.
Casino in Johore? The hard working Johoreans will end up as gamblers. Singaporeans safely gamble in Resorts world Sentosa, Singapore and Marina Bay Sands. If they have a Casino in forest City ,I think it will make Johore residents very poor because of gambling addiction.
Johore is an ideal state for modern agricultural development in strategic partnership with Singapore complementing each other based on needs not wants. Use VSIP Vietnam economic model concept to ensure its success.

Building this massive condo with China was mistake. For the money they spend, all they need to do improve the infrastructure of Iskandar… poor planning… look at Puteri Harbour.. all other condo / resort…all failed. HIGH SPEED RAIL that could have helped… spend the money on HSR…
Get the Chinese banks to cut their losses and market them cheaply, with huge discount, most Malaysian and Singaporean will come flooding in to buy those empty apartments. Then, Forrest City will be no longer a Ghost City.

Most likely those Chinese businessmen who wants to be become richer are thinking of the "Casino Resort Plan" idea and creating discussion in the public space about Forest City turning into a Casino Resort. Unlikely by any Malay Muslim person, because of the "Haram" issue.

Adopt VSIP Industrial parks economic model to fast track Johore state economic development is ideal. Singapore has hand-on experience to handle it like in Vietnam. Its model is proven a success in Vietnam(VSIP), China(Suzhou, Tianjin, Chongqing)& Indonesia(Kendal, Batam, Bintan).

Ah tiongs still need visa to enter malaysia. Malaysia only grant Singaporean a 30 day social visa compared to d 3 to 6 months visa granted to sporeans by so many western countries, Hk, korea and japan. As long as malaysia is not foreigners friendly, nothing much will change. Any new initiatives must be accompanied by a relax in d visa law and d mm2h scheme.
