I'm amazed that WKPC-TV / Channel 15 had used the Superman Main Theme for it's Closedown and all others seem to have relaxing tunes to wind down for the day.
I like how the sign off had people milling around the studio. When I think of a sign off I imagine ONE PERSON being left at the station to make sure everything is secured, turned off and ready to shut down and the sign off is the only thing left for the night before walking out the door and locking up.
At 5:08 the KTVE Channel 10 sign-off (Now NBC 10) for the NBC El Dorado-Monroe-West Monroe, Louisiana affiliate (West Monroe not seen on KTVE's station IDs) used its "Proud N" and Peacock logo which was used until 1986, when NBC debuted its now 6 feather Peacock logo design which remains to this day on the air.
Some sign-offs are less obnoxious than others, but all those did refer to the moment you groan and your soul goes down and frantically presses the buttons on the control looking for something, on a silent living room, free of parents or sis/bros, at 3:00 AM of a Sunday night... Curious and informative.
2:53 is my favorite. A whole finale number for a sign off is a huge plus for me!
KTCA is ahead of most PBS stations. It is based in St. Paul, Minn.
