My first Drosera plant was left outside over the winter because I thought it would be alright. In the spring, I was sad to realize it wasn’t coming back. But, I had allowed it to flower when it was warm, and it had dropped seeds in the planter. They’re so small that I never noticed them. Now I have Drosera plants popping up randomly. I’m planning on bringing them inside this winter.
Ahh the power of self pollination. The seeds are so small because its through wind that the seeds get dispersed far and wide. Without the durable seeds the plants wouldn't be able to come back after the harsh conditions....whatever that may be. Bringing in your plants will definitely make a difference....happy growing !
Nice beautiful mini garden pot! Good info on care and dormancy video. I thought carnivores get majority of nutrients/energy from the sun, not insects? Great to see how others grow. Thanks.
Hi James.....thanks ....glad you liked the miniature garden pot. From what I've gathered the photosynthesise helps the plants produce the sugars and energy necessary to attract, capture and digest insects. The insects themselves provide trace elements which ultimately helps the plants grow healthily and with vigor.
Hi there ........yes I agree.....I find it very easy to grow. It's a vigorous grower and it produces copious amounts of seeds. Another thing is that Drosera capensis don't require dormancy unlike my Sarras and VFT. That means that over it gets a head start over all the other dormant plants. That's why I now cut off all flower stalks when they emerge ......happy growing to you and thanks for your comment!
