We don’t need more companies, we need stronger ones.
Agree with you 1000% David. Stronger companies and not more of them.
Competition breeds excellence
Long-lasting giants like Powell-Peralta and Santa Cruz will continue to be the exception, not the norm… It’s super sad, but the cyclical nature of all of this is inevitable
You say that until Walmart or Amazon starts making pro boards lol
@@misterguitarraman Thing is that a strong company wouldn’t need to slap their name on it.
Blind, Almost, Enjoi….I’m torn, man! Those brands are so iconic, it’s impossible to imagine skateboarding without them.
Agreed! I grew up watching Almost Round 3 on repeat. Seems so unreal to see them all disappear.
No one of any credibility buys those brands anymore mate
@@ewanmcvicar9 just because you dont doesnt mean everyone doesnt
Blind hasn’t been relevant since the mid 90’s.
@@ewanmcvicar9 enjoi boards are amazing
I haven't skated in 7 years but I still have tons of skate dvds. Enjoi bag of suck is one of them. Sad to see the team come to a close. Early 2000's was the best years in skating.
It’s absolutely bonkers to see what has happened at Dwindle. To see it just become a shell, a ghost of what it once was in a fortnight is a shame.
I agree it’s such a bummer to see so much history turned into something so different…
fortnite
@@cadenmam3853 A fortnight is a unit of time equal to 14 days (two weeks). The word derives from the Old English term fēowertīene niht, meaning "fourteen nights" (or "fourteen days," since the Anglo-Saxons counted by nights).

enjoi decks are actually really nice, i learned a lot of tricks on mine in middle school. too bad to see business not doing so well nowadays.
Btw ever since primitives Rick and Morty designs the board industry has focused on high end graphics then quality pop and concave
End of an era
One of my first good boards was an Enjoi, so it sucks to see what's going on over there. Hopefully they can manage to pull through and rebuild again. That said, with the rise of so many new brands over the last 10 years or so it's hard not to think that we might be facing something of a repeat of what went down in the early 90s, where some of the "old guard" brands are replaced by smaller, more core brands.
Yea I think now that it’s so easy to start a board company, if you’re not really hiring people to push sales for bigger board brands it’s going to be a lot harder to compete.
Enjoi gave us bag of suck, one of the best videos of all time... Apparently theres a secret marc johnson part that never made it to the video floating around somewhere
I used to skate Dwindle boards but switched over to companies made by BBS. They're totally skater run and the companies that they produce for are also...and they have TREMENDOUS shapes, concaves and overall quality northern hardrock maple that they use to make the 7 ply's with...check out any of the companies that get their boards pressed by these guys. Out of San Diego, boards R pressed outside of Tijuana, I believe. But sold out of San Diego. The boards last too....and POP amazing. Currently riding a Darkroom 8.5"s. Wheelbase (important,) of 14.5"s. I LOVE it!!
Corporations can come in and destroy culture, which is an age old tale. What they fail to understand is enjoi’s lifeline was their culture. They embodied the spirit of skateboarding.
I could not have said that better! 👊🏼🤙🏼
True, but in order for a corporation to come in that means that someone had to have sold out. Wouldn’t that individual or group of individuals be the real cause of the problem for selling out in the first place?
@@jonroberson9027 Would really depend on the situation, or the corporation whether they lied about keeping the culture still.
Some already rich investors bought it out thinking a skateboard company is the same thing as an airline or factory.
Hopefully enjoi somehow rebrands. Although I love everything enjoi, if they were able to rebrand and start something new like many companies have done before then I think everything will be fine. I will support it either way. Enjoi had always been my favorite because they just have fun with themselves, and if they start something with the same motive, then I don’t care I’m buying from them too.
they just need to reprint the panda poo products again. why cant i find their merch in video games?
its like they forgot about it.
Too many not skaterowned companies in skateboarding right now
My first deck was an enjoi back in 2000. Recently took up skating again and was stoked to see they were still around and bought a few fresh ones. Might have to hang them up now. Truly an end of an era.
At least we still have some Enjoi videos we can look back on. 🥲
This makes me so sad man. Almost has had some of the most pivotal board technology out there. Actual innovators in the skate world.
For sure, I grew up watching Almost Round 3 on repeat. Find the hidden parts, watching the team chemistry, and those dudes rip on a skateboard!
Jake phelps gone, Jeff grosso gone, enjoi skateboards gone, olympics here to stay, damn shit is going downhill quick
This is not the Skateboarding I grew up with. We’ve gotta keep supporting the skater owned brands!
Bought an enjoi stone cold board when I heard the news
Monarch & Dusters killed Dwindle, what a joke
You might like my new video, I talk about one of those in it. 👀
Bought my first Enjoi deck last year and I love it. Didn't know much about the company till now though, thanks for the video! Keep pushing!
Thanks bro! Enjoi was a rad company.
I remember reading a caswell berry part in a thrasher mag in 2011... time flies
Wow, that message was somewhat special! Louie must be a real sensible person.
I'm too old to skate anymore but it's a bummer seeing these companies blow up then fade off. It keeps happening like they get to a level of success then everything falls apart. Over and over again.
I agree. I know a lot of people have said they disliked their boards, but I think seeing all the history behind the brand is what makes it so hard to see it go. It’s a lot of nostalgia for some of us.
First Cliché now Enjoi.. Couple of my fav board companies from my middle school days. Sad stuff
Man, RIP Cliche. They had some sick boards!
For me I think what is happening is the investment company that owns Dwindle is pairing back the brands that aren't selling as much now. Currently when I think of Dwindle now it is Almost, Madness, Tensor and maybe Monarch. I think they could spin-off or shut down, Blind, Darkstar like they did Enjoi. Yes these are iconic are skateboard brands but they seem to have been watered down now to the masses. I was with my kid at Zumiez and other skate shops. Blind was barely there and when we saw those decks they seemed meh. I'm hoping Dwindle continues on stronger.
i like almost, especially the impact/double impact. i've never had a bad dsm board, i think they are often overlooked/underrated
I just bought an enjoi complete. I grew up on birdhouse, but always wanted an enjoi and I love the feel of them. Too bad about the company, I love the brand itself and what it represents.
There is a life cycle for skate companies. The biggest ones always seem to start out underground. Take Blind founder Gonz' first pro sponsor, Vision. I don't know why I keep seeing claims that Vision was started in 1976 (1983 is more like it, and it was Dorfman, not Gonz lol), but, like the whole World family tree, they started out as a response to corporatism in skating (ie Brad's 'vision') and took no time to become that which they had originally rebelled against. So on the one hand Blind is dead, but on the other, it lasted more than 3 times as long as its predecessors; I'm surprised the other brands (enjoi, almost) held on to their souls as long as they did, RIP
ok I guess they made skate shorts in the late 70's but definitely not under the Vision name.
Damn big support for Loui
I have a question when did resin 7 fade out so much? The only boards I can find now delaminate like the cheaper ebay boards I used to buy it’s like that is the new standard ?
bro what are you doing to your skateboards in 2023 to make them delaminate?.. you're supposed to skate them, not put them in the front yard to be rained on 100 times.
In Los Angeles enjoi grew fast. Everyone had their boards cause I remember people selling them in the streets for 15 bucks in the early 2000’s. Enjoi and darkstar boards. But personally I never liked dwindle boards. For me they had too much concave.
shaking up the industry, we're way overdue
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
everything started to suck way back when Rocco introduced "flameboy & wet willy"
That’s nostalgic for zoomers lol
A note: no need to read the whole post. We are here for a summary and a perspective.

Now I know moving forward I’ll just link it.
Thank you for helping make these videos better. 👊🏼🤙🏼
@@HangingWithTheHarreldsdon’t listen to Nicolas, I’m glad you read the post because I can’t be bothered to read sometimes
Piggy back pandas was my favorite graphic, my freshman yearbook photo I was wearing it on a shirt. Very controversial.
Can we be honest - who and the hell is buying Enjoi boards these days. The company is not the same for some unfortunate reasons. Let's go down the list of companies under Dwindle:Almost, Monarch, Blind, Darkstar, Madness, Tensor... I'm not trying to come off negative but whoever read this- when was the time you spent your money on anything from these companies mentioned. Usually a distribution can survive with just half of their companies making money but when all of the companies are struggling - it's only a matter time it will implode...
all my boards have been enjoi (lol!) their boards aren't actually super popular in my area
TBH I ride a lot of those R7 boards
@@HENNOZINGER maybe I should have changed a sentence or 2. Can we at least agree Enjoi is not the same company 5-10 years ago. And my now that Louie is leaving? When is the last time you have seen someone with a Almost or Darkstar board. They must sell well overseas or something...
@@j-mac7401 i totally agree its.not the same...actually pkpular boards here in the netherlands are palace primitive and still blind..I personally dont really care about the brand Im skating .I wanna ride my favorite skaters board. But the R7 is something I always liked
I've been riding enjoi decks for 23 years. This sucks.
You said irrelevant humor instead of irreverent XD my bad for correcting you but itll help the algo at least! Thanks for telling this story it is sad, Louie is the man and Enjoi is my favorite brand. But brands are exactly that, its the people we love. So these corporate big wigs can run this shit into the ground. But whatever Louie and the boys do, we will be there to support them.
🤣
Thanks man, I’m a skateboarder at heart. Still wanting at RUclips and making mistakes a ton, but still learning thanks to people giving me solid feedback.
So seriously, thank you!
And I love your perspective, I know we have a lot of brands I’m backing Louie in whatever he does!
found out they wanted to push enjoi into putting their stuff in walmart and target just like how dwindle did to darkstar
Never a win.
Louie Barletta to Business & Company wit Marc Johnson. I can see it and it would be so sick
I agree. I think most people would choose this option. Marc and Louie on a company with creative freedom would be incredible!
I still have my red plaid panda enjoi deck. Loved that deck.
I might invest in a few decks and hold on to them for 5-10 years
That’s a good idea! They could be collectibles by then.
This blows...Enjois been my favorite brand for years 😕 times seem to really be changing in skateboarding for the worst right now. Thanks for covering this topic.
Enjoi is such a classic company! I hope some how, some way, they can survive.
enjoi is selling a barletta signed deck on their website, says more coming soon. how if hes not going to be on the enjoi anymore?
I wonder if it’s just outdated? We need to see Louie on The Nine Club or something to get some answers!
Steep kicks with similar nose and tail, even with mellow concave and steep kicks, all crisp boards and single deck pressed, the happiest colour selections - gone? Seriously, I could switch out my Enjoy deck any time to new Enjoy deck and not feel the difference at all because they just keep their shape so well - and gone? If this happens, part of the world is about to collapse. If they go I don't know...
Almost and Enjoi were the two main brands i skated since 2007. i've had dozens of boards from each and this is just a bummer.
Same! I grew up skating a ton of Almost boards. I had a few Enjoi boards, but definitely watched their videos a ton.
for these companies to buy out the skate brands somebody had to sell them... it's sad for the skate culture loss... but this is the $$$ culture and not a one-sided thing....
Time for an update with the jenkem interview
I thought about making an update… 🤷🏻♂️
Sad i loved their boards
My fav board I have hanging is still the ben reamers foundation fundraising deck
i grew up around Blind products being pushed all over the place, Almost has a few parts that i hold close, and enjoi was my go to deck over all for years. welp... s***
Louie has a lot invested in NHS so I can see why and if my baby had boards show up in Walmart without notice I’d hit the road too. Rich Novak would never do that to the empire he and the people behind him or his riders
I could definitely agree with that! If I had a company I truly invested in and saw it sold at the same place as super cheap boards and the quality decreased I would def call it quits.
Did Enjoi really sell to walmart? I know I saw darkstar
I think you mean irreverent, not irrelevant
Shit. Louie should bring back maple blackcat
I would back any company Louie starts or works for!
From a graphics side at least I wouldn’t cry for any other brand than Enjoi and Madness. I don’t know what Darkstar, Almost or Blind are doing but it’s not anything I’d touch most of the time with some very rare exceptions. I do love Dwindle decks though. Stiff and crisp like no other.
I definitely agree with that. Madness and Enjoi are rad! I also like Monarch’s boards. Stoked on what Letecia and Sky Brown are doing over there.
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds if Darkstar would just crank out their Celtic boards forever I’d buy them again in absurdum. Enjoi and Toy Machine. Those two brands just resonate with me.
crazy… feel bad for the riders, wonder where they’re gonna go
Whats the song i fux with it
be sure to support Jacuzzi skateboards, its louie's new company
i am extrememly sad about this. enjoi was my top favorite company with all of my favorite riders :(. at least we still have worble for the fun and friendship in skateboarding.
Worble videos are amazing! Hopefully we will continue to see brands have fun and not take themselves too seriously in skateboarding.
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds yeah i hope once worble is gone there will be brands like that still
Jacuzzi vid jus dropped 🎉
Louie is probably going to go back to his Pro career, go to Hollywood, get some disorder/Nike Checks or go East to NYC and make G's from King and Adidas.
I have a feeling this has to do with their logo. It must be sought out frequently
I'm excited for the future.
I ride Anti Hero decks, Ace and Indy trucks(215s on my 10" pig) and Spitfire and Ricta wheels, so I couldn't give two sh!ts what happens to these fringe brands. Imo, there's WAY too many skateboard companies as it is, competing for slices of the same financial pie to the extent that few of them are actually viable business's that succeed. What about ZERO?! They actually took 2-time SOTY, Chris Cole on a shoot where they had to renegade camp for someplace to sleep! WTF?! 🤣 In business, it's all about the 'Law of the Jungle', survival of the fittest.
Enjoi has had some really cool videos…..but I will be honest i have never bought a Enjoi board and have been riding on and off sense the 90s. Just was never a fan of them. Seems like the only people I have ever seen with them are little kids.
Dwindle makes all my skate gear and I can't get the stuff I like anywhere else. I ride only Tensor Mag Lights and Resin Decks. I'd love to buy elsewhere but nobody else is making the same product.
You’ll be stoked on the next video I’m doing them! It has something to do with another brand out of Dwindle. 🤙🏼
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds and that ladies and gentlemen, is how you get a subscriber, not subscribers in general but definitely this one subscriber 😄
Skateboarding is made for skaters by skaters not being a corporate thing
Greed destroys all.
Sadly, that is true.
Enjoi have been my decks of choice forever
Corporations need to stay out of skating completely. Do your Olympics shit but leave the culture alone.
So happy I bought my son an enjoi this year
One of the things Enjoi did that I love was create some mini boards with a foam top instead of griptape. It’s such a cool idea for younger kiddos so they don’t scrape up their hands or legs on the griptape.
I feel like with all the core riders leaving these companies the only chance the brands have to survive is to become the next Walmart brand.
Shit changes ,hope Louie is solid, and berry
Bravo bought them, but I believe bravo was bought by a company called transom group. I know transom group is mixed in all of this.
Man… It’s just a bummer to see them disappear. I’ve heard a lot of people say they haven’t been making enough money to pay anyone for 6 months, but still if Bravo came in I wish there could have been another solution.
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds yea it’s very sad, Enjoi was favorite company for the longest just because of the fact they liked to have fun, I met the Louie and caswell in person they were too of the most genuine pros I’ve met, really sad to seed a good company go. The end of an era
No money to pay riders! Dwindle was getting away of having Pros or riders especially when World has started that Tradition not needing riders and selling to Costco Walmart Target etc! Not only that but Louie is old and not throwing down like a teen or a 20 year old! So not sure who will even pick him up.
If Louie goes somewhere else I’m sure he would have a higher leadership role in the company. He may not be able to keep up with the kids in the Olympics but he can add value as a Team Manager, Brand Manager, or something similar.
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds good point! Louie is super cool, I remember meeting his in tampa in 2001 when he was on Maple Skateboards!

After reading into this some more, I don't think this fits the evil corporation narrative. Dwindle was bought back in 2003 by Globe who sold it to Bravo in 2019, just before the pandemic. Bravo, from the looks of it, has a business built around selling third party licensed gear (which explains the WWE line of Enjoi decks). They aren't a professional sporting goods company like Globe was. At the end of the day, if Enjoi was making money, Globe wouldn't have sold it and it looks like they might have run into some bad luck with the pandemic (and possibly trade war with China) as well.
I did see Enjoi had a ton of unpaid invoices, too. I’m sure that led to it as well. I’m hoping they don’t end up as another board company in big box retail stores. Which for any big corporate entity more than likely that seems like what they would push.
@@HangingWithTheHarrelds It definitely looks like that's the case. Pour one out for another classic Skateboarding brand, I guess 🪦
@@Nu63 I did have someone on Facebook comment that they thought Crailtap was going to buy Enjoi. I’ve not read that anywhere else, but that would be amazing!
However, I also have a feeling we’ll see a classic brand disappear. 👎🏼
@HangingWithTheHarrelds
Crailtap acquiring Enjoi would, simultaneously, be amazing and hilariously ironic; knowing how Steve Rocco treated Mike Carroll, Rick Howard, and the rest of the former World Industries riders who helped formed Girl and Chocolate.

Whoa, that’s very true. I can see quite a few similarities in the culture of the two brands.
Dudes weren't getting paid or even hearing from dwindle for over 6 months is what I heard.
I heard this too, such a bummer!

That Hsu/Barletta era was one of the best ever
All cant be Santa Cruz or a status symbol as Supreme...Make that money tho🙂🤘🏼🙂
Santa Cruz has it figured out. They do social media content that’s actually good, their graphics are SO RAD, and they take such good care of their team.
Once Jerry Hsu left i think would be the down fall of enjoi
I had a louis enjoi deck and I hated the shape, you could say i did not enjoi it. Good riddance
Why did I wait till literally this time to buy my first enjoi board? Of all the times in history to be riding a enjoi board and I get one about a week or so before valentines and saw Louis post. I’m not one for skate politics tbh but it’s kinda made me wanna get anew board already lol. And also I realised that theynan hadn’t been riding for them for a while before I got his pro model lol ffs. Think I’m gunna just go get me a 10 inch skull skates deer man board and some Indy 215s and some founular 4s n ball out lol
I think Deluxe makes Krux, there for Louie and all the Dwindle alumni should just get in bed with Deluxe and make a new Brand if they want... Or Join Polar ;)
I wonder where everyone will go
