"I was on a photographic holiday in the Shetland Isles with my husband, arranged by a local guide. We'd gone to Sumburgh Head RSPB reserve to see and photograph the puffins. I'd sat down for a bit and taken my phone out to get a video of them coming into land when this little one decided to come through the fence. I couldn't believe my luck and as I had my phone in my hand and I started to video. I was amazed when he popped under my leg!"

Support for this: You can hear a seagull calling in the background right before the puffin seeks protection from the camera operator's leg (seagulls are among the most common predator of puffins), and it looks rather distressed while looking for a hiding spot. Putting two and two together, the puffin was most likely hiding from the seagull.
CJCroen1393 ye seagulls can be real assholes too the puffins for example steal their hard earned food.

It was hiding from a possible predator. A lot of birds can actually understand warning calls from other bird species. @ 1:24 you see him hear the seagull call and frantically look around and hunker under her leg. Really cool.

It was the seagull it was hiding from that u could hear seagull's eat and kill Adult/baby puffins in the UK especially the larger gull families.

1:30 is very peculiar, psychologically. I mean, surely the puffin understands she's a living being? Can he not feel her warmth and see her subtle movements? Why, then, would he risk hiding under her leg? I get he's clearly hiding from a predator, but under the leg of another possible predator? It's not like puffins are used to large friendly creatures.

Or people have been feeding it/littering food on the ground, so it came over for that...I live in Florida, and the seagulls down here will happily come up to you if they think they are getting food.

How do you know the puffin was hiding from a predator? He's probably been fed by humans so many times he's comfortable around one. If you ever have your legs like that you know that pets like to put themselves under it for whatever reason, it probably makes them feel safer.
But if you see moments before the puffin hid under the leg it looked kinda scared and went under the photographer's leg for.. shelter?

Iceland, faroes, and Norwegians hunt them pretty regularly.
