I love watching you and Mama Lai in the kitchen. This is like me and my mom when I was learning how to cook. But she would scream and yell at me until I start crying. Fun times lol.
@@JoannaHopeLai - i am definitely enjoying the videos After years of dreaming and talking about it, My wife and I just moved to Oahu a few months ago too. So I'm love watching yoir videos exploring the island. I also love your family visits, most of my immediate family including my Mom, are still on the East Coast. So, its comforting to see the love you share with your family. ❤️❤️
Oooh! I want to try this! It looks simple and delicious. My fiancé is Cantonese-American. He doesn't know how to cook. So, I'm trying to learn to cook Chinese/Cantonese dishes. I'll start with this one. Hopefully, I can do it justice lol
I’ve never had this dish, and my fiancée’s family was Cantonese. Interesting! I use Asian bamboo spatulas and 3 different woks. I love how mama Lai is _so_ modest that the dish is “edible” while I suspect it’s delicious. 👍
lōʻihi Pākē kaikamahine, got a suggestion. you cook and mama tells you what to do. you connect by facetime or zoom. mama can send you ingredient list which you can shop for. shopping can be one clip and cooking another clip. should be fun and entertaining. as a twist you bring your friends to help you on this end if you want.
That long knife isn’t the ideal knife to use because you don’t have full control of it which slows things down and can cause accidents. A shorter fuller blade knife gives safer control.
I just love your Mom, she is just so matter of fact about stuff.
She sure is!
It’s a Cantonese thing. Very direct and to the point. Like my Cantonese dad. My Shanghai mom has a more subtle approach.
My grandma and mom's is the same way 😅

Haha, Mama Lai yells at me in the next cooking video! And thanks- always appreciate you watching my videos.
My mom tells me she's tired of telling and showing me. But, why my food never taste like mom's 😶
i LOVE your mom! Her facial expressions are hilarious!! :) so typical Chinese. :D
Thank you, George! Glad you enjoy

YUM!!!! What an adorable team!
Thank you, Karen!
Love how your mom pulls out the chair to cook on
👍🏽👍🏽
I had FUN watching you two cook. Your moms got a lot of patience for you lol
Haha, I shared your comment with my Mom, and she said "Yeah! I have so much patience for you!"
Great pun!
In live in Honolulu so we have a go-to fun factory and many fresh noodle sources.
Every time Joanna handles a knife, it terrifies me.
I love garlic noodles! I know your mom loves having you home!
Yes! It was good to spend time at home cooking with Mom =)

Hi P T! You can totally make this dish! Mama Lai and I will cook other Cantonese dishes in future videos, too!
Hi I'm new to your channel and I love you guys already 💞 the food looks so good shout out to your mom for cooking some good food
Hi! Thanks for being on this channel. More videos to come!
I can’t wait to try this
Hope it goes well, Tiffany! I would use 12 ounces of noodles instead of 16 ounces (like we did in the recipe). 😀
Looks good to me! I definitely want to try it.
Thanks for watching, Jo Marie!
Hi Mama Lai,
You have a great sense of humor! I look forward to more of your cooking videos with you & Nana!
Thank you so much!
You are very welcome!

Yummy ❤👍👌
😎
So good. Is there a recipe with udon noodles 😅
Thanks! Mama Lai doesn’t cook udon noodles much 😃
Aunty, I am inviting myself to your house this weekend to eat some garlic noodles.
Where do you get the bamboo
Asian grocery store
Girrl I got scared 😱 when the priests came out 😫😂
Haha, right! Mama Lai does not play. The fear is real 😂

Yep. I’m always on edge (pun intended) when Joanna uses a knife.
