5:58 How is someone this fast???

Yes Nadal is incredibly fast, but I hate how everyone just ignores the incredible skill it took to make those shots, first the slice passing shot from that defensive position was just as impossible as the get, and then that incredible no see shot that landed on the line was just one of the best flicks ever.
this point is one of the biggest contenders of the greatest point in the history, it's just out of this world good.

@@gherbihicham8506 I don't recall any other point in history that comes even close.
PS.: Couldn't agree more about the fact people (ignorant ones) insist on not seeing how much of a genius he is aside of his physical attributes.

Excellent game plan by Stepanek: avoid long rally slogs by shortening points either through coming to the net or bringing Nadal to the net where he is (or was back then) the most uncomfortable. Definitely the best way to beat himon clay and Stepanek executed this approach perfectly in the first set but pretty much impossible to do against Nadal over multiple

Yeah, this was my thought too. Stepanek played an interesting style of tennis in this match. Such a shame he didn´t get rewarded for that, but that´s what happens to most opponents of Nadal on clay :D

I just fucking hate that "go to the net and you'll win against Nadal" though, it never ever worked, if Nadal loses it's because of some incredible baseline play not some cheap S&V, the likes of Djokovic proved that, Nadal actually loves the idiots who make going to the net a strategy against him, it might win them points at first but once Nadal knows you're doing it as a strategy he'll punish you, Federer though he could do it and ended up punished time and time again, it's also why he lost that 2008 French Open final (the most humiliating grand slam final of all time).
Also Nadal is one of the best volleyers in the game, he proved that in a lot of occasions, but he obviously doesn't use it too much because he has the ultimate baseline game.

Gherbi Hicham Just watch Roddick vs Nadal 2011 USO lol Roddick tried the S&V strategy almost every point and he got crushed

    Thanks for this interesting match
The determination of Rafa, only 18, is beyond understanding here
After the loss of the first set, behold how he kills the match
He seems to grow like the shadows on the court, while his opponent grows dim...
The final against Coria a few days later is just mindblowing

Ahhh early 2005. A time when players like Stepanek could still win sets against Nadal on clay. That all ended when he won the French Open and became the King of Clay.

Stepanek actually played very intelligently. He mixed things up massively. A lot of chip and charge, serve and volley, slices and drop shots. He had Nadal off balance and thoroughly deserved the first set. More players probably need to improvise more; as the success rate of beating him from the back of the court on clay is pretty well nil

Daniel Perez-Gonzalez too bad Nadal adjusted quickly. I think to the end Stepanek didn’t execute those drop shots perfectly enough to avoid Nadal’s speed.

Haha poor Stepanek, I feel sorry for the guy. It looks like he actually thought he could win the match after winning first set. He ended up only winning TWO games after that :D
