"Salem (/ˈseɪləm/) is a historic coastal city in Essex County, Massachusetts located in the North Shore region. Continuous settlement by Europeans began in 1626 and Salem would become one of the most significant seaports in early American history.
Salem is a residential and tourist area that is home to the House of Seven Gables, Salem State University, Pioneer Village, the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Salem Willows Park, and the Peabody Essex Museum. It features historic residential neighborhoods in the Federal Street District and the Charter Street Historic District.
Much of the city's cultural identity reflects its role as the location of the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692, as featured in Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Police cars are adorned with witch logos, a public elementary school is known as Witchcraft Heights, and the Salem High School athletic teams are named the Witches. Gallows Hill was originally believed to be the site of numerous public hangings and is currently a park used as a playing field for various sports.
In 2012, the Retailers Association of Massachusetts chose Salem for their inaugural "Best Shopping District" award. On January 10, 2013, President Barack Obama signed executive order HR1339, designating Salem as the birthplace of the National Guard. The city's population was 41,340 at the 2010 census."

Salem MA has many other notable historical facts besides witches, it’s home to the oldest candy makers “Ye Old Pepper Companie” in the US, there’s amazing port & ship history. It’s also one of my favorite places for antique shops. House of Seven Gables too! Fun fact: Arthur Miller was married to Marilyn Monroe

I live in downtown Salem. Glad you enjoyed my town. You came at a very quiet time of the year, but last Saturday, when you visited, it was much busier. A lot of people came for the Salem So Sweet festival with the ice sculptures. Hope you make it again in nicer weather, when the pandemic is behind us.

I stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel on Halloween, I could see the park and Witch Museum from my room...cool!

What a fun excursion to Salem, MA.//Wish you could have gone into the Witch House and its grounds, the cost of 'Witch' would be equal to a Boston Burger.//1692 was not a good year in Salem, and for a few seconds, as you announced names of individual benches engraved with the names of "Witches" -- innocents-- that were executed; while doing flips, sliding over dangerous wet ice, I was hoping there would not be another bench named after AK (who is no witch). That said, a case can be made on what we are going through these days.// Loved the 'heart-renduring' Ice Sculpture encapsulating Gary and your future sister-in-law. :)

It's Pea-body (like a human body or body of work). Having done the Crucible twice it was so amazing to see the stones for so many of the characters from the play.
When I lived in Maine, I went to Salem frequently. It’s a beautiful, sea coastal, historic city. I love Salem. My favorite city in Massachusetts. In Seacoast New Hampshire, be sure to visit Portsmouth NH. That’s another beautiful sea coast city! FYI: Public Restrooms can be found in the National Park Visitor Center.

@@lvdawnll8166 I’ve had to move out of New England, Scarborough Maine in 2004 because a family member was diagnosed with brain cancer. It’s not what I wanted to do, but I know it was the right thing to do. I miss New England and all of its charms!
So sorry about your family member. Portsmouth's South End where I'm from has become very pricey! Hardly anyone I grew up with can afford to stay there anymore. But it's nice to go visit!
@@lvdawnll8166 thanks LV. Yes, Maine got that way when they put the rail line from Portland to Boston. All the people from Massachusetts came north and drove up prices. Most Mainers could not afford the price of a home from Kittery all the way up the coast. We made out much better in Pennsylvania financially, but if I could ever get back up that way again, I’ll gladly trade the rat race for some solitude! 😊

Great video! I haven't gone through all of it but being from MA I have mixed feelings on the whole witch, psychic tourist stuff. I think it's overdone and in some ways disrespectful to the innocent victims who weren't even witches. Laurie Cabot is a famous "witch" from there. To me it was a bunch of bored girls who were starting trouble when the Salem witch trials started. I never knew about the ice festival! That sounds interesting. Danvers was actually the original Salem Village. I believe it was comprised of a few nearby towns. The trials didn't even take place in today's Salem. Salem is really beautiful, though! Have grown up going there, it's a nightmare in October, though. Avoid it at all costs lol. I hope you were able to find the real gallows hill. I think it is near Salem State University. Might be wrong, though. There are also several old houses you can tour. I love the House of the seven gables. I think your brother is right about the witch house or museum. A friend went in. I waited outside with a book. She said it was cheesy.
