Try doing it without the Market Board like a trial player. Everyone complains about the books, I didn't mind the books, they were like a little ARR tour. It was that materia grind that I hated.
They should really drop the materia tier restrictions and let you infuse any grade to make it way easier
I will strongly advocate server hopping with the FATEs. Don't sit and twiddle your thumbs-use every tool you can to your advantage.
I had no idea the relic tracker existed, thank you so much! As for books, I have been removing my weapon for the entirety of dungeons up until the last boss. It makes the process go faster. The HW relics, I kinda just try to stock up on grand company stuff. I usually have a bunch of seals lying around after turning in gear. Congrats on your first weapon!
I did this for my HW relics, would never advise. I forgot to re-equip it a handful of times and wasted time having to redo dungeons.
I just got my very 1st and i promise you my only relic weapon from this quest line. I had started it like a year and some change ago but just couldnt go past atma. But picked it up again as a way to celebrate 10 yrs. Serious props to the people who actually did this like 9 yrs ago when it was crazy difficult and those who actually got all weapons.
Congratulations on your first ARR relic. If you're masochistic enough, you will also do the others. If you're a completionist... yeah, that will happen. Sooner or later and probably in different stages. (also sorry beforehand this is going to be a long post)
I remember doing one before the SHB one and people kept whining how the SHB was painful. "Have you done the ARR one?" "No?" "Then let me tell you, this one (SHB) is a walk in the park compared".
Also, people keep whining about EW being too easy. While yes, that's true... Well, the ARR/SHB ones are probably the right level of suffering they want. And if they never done one (ARR) and decide to do one, I hope to never hear a peep out of them ever again after doing at least 1 to the fullest. I know you can't satisfy everyone but (unpopular opinion( the EW ones are probably the best ones for my mental state. As someone who finished uni I need a chill level grind.
And yes, doing every single relic weapon (ARR/HW/SB/SHB/EW) in various stages.... All of my 'rest' of ARR weapons are now in book stage.

Good news with the Zodiac relics: You only need to complete 1 for the Achievement.
Getting the first step (doozy that it is...) is the only one tied to an achievement for each weapon, with "finishing a Zodiac Zeta" being a one-time cheevo.
I completed my first ARR relic last month and I gotta tell you YES this is what I want. It feels like I earned something and not just got a shiny weapon with leftover tomes like the EW ones. I feel zero connection with those and that's why I feel no remorse to glam over them. With these grind I had to go adventure in the wilds and get out of my way to do stuff I don't normally do like fates and leves. I really wish that each expansion had me do stuff like this. I know I can but if there's no goal in sight is hard to keep me motivated. So yeah EW relic grind still sucks. I'm getting myself another ARR relic. I dedicate at least 2 hours to it weekly so is not that bad.
@@Punkadelic2112 I'm glad you enjoyed it. Tho, I will keep on doing my hunt train grind for EW, hoard materials for previous relics on the way, maybe even get a hunt mount on the way as well. Despite all, i find myself also at a win. I guess one man's trash is another one's treasure. ^^ I wish you luck and lots of patience with your next upcoming ARR relic.
@@Nazuiko I think there are achievements for getting the base relics for each of the 10 jobs, but unlike other relics there is only one achievement for progressing. So if all you care about are achievements, you'd be best to unlock all 10 relics, then complete one to Zeta.
i’ve become a slight relic fiend, but i don’t see myself ever touching ARR relics, this video solidified my viewpoint
I finished mine a couple days ago. The worst part is the books and farming for light. The rest is pretty easy just make sure you have enough poetics and GC seals.
I am in the Zeta9 club myself, but it took me a LITERAL DECADE. Getting all the Anima weapons was SIGNIFICANTLY EASIER. I even did the SCH relic from the anima set in under 48 hours. But I was VERY prepared ahead of time.
I watched a video where someone did an ARR relic within 24 hours, though they were also super prepared.
I actually had a lot of fun doing this, probably because I took my time with it. I'll get me more of these.
Well done on completing your ARR Relic! I don't think I'll ever finish my whm one, but if I do it will be by slowly, slowly chipping away at it.
It has taken me a very long time to get mine lmfao. The grind is just so boring that it gets too painful to do more than one book in a day 😭
@@babyyoda2745that was the key for after my got my Excalibur zeta which was my first art devil for the first time I decided to just do one book per day instead of trying to get as much done as I could and the same with each individual steps for the process it took no more than 2 weeks once I completed my book I went to doing my own thing for the rest of the time I was playing
Just finished my first ARR Zodiac relic this week and I started playing in Stormblood. The grind was so tedious for me that it took me about 4 years to get my Dragoon weapon. Still glad that I did it, it is gratifying to have though.
As someone with 3 Zetas (finished the 3rd yesterday) the main bottleneck is books and the material you can stock up on materials ahead of time, though alexandrite is certainly a chore, as can bombard cores if you don't have ways to rapidly gather GC seals. Gonna see about finishing another 2 or 3 Zetas before DT early access
The books are the biggest pain. So many have repeating objectives. It would take literally half as long, maybe even two thirds as long, if you could have all of the books active at the same time.
But working on multiple relics does help a bit. If you have a higher level relic (I forget which stage), if you're grinding FATEs to spawn a FATE you need for a book (on another job), you can get occasional Alexandrite drops from FATEs. It is absolutely not a good way to get Alexandrite, but it can add up towards your total over time. Would save on a few maps anyway.
I do one book or half a book each day, so doing the daily quest for the 50/60/70/80 roulette to get a Mysterious Map means you'll have a good amount of Alexandrite to do a Sphere Scroll. Bonus tip, if you're also working on HW relics, once you unlock the Singing Clusters stage of that relic, that also has a daily quest to do the 50/60/70/80 roulette, so you can double dip.
Speaking of HW relics, I would say the bottleneck there is getting the materials from Christine. There simply are no ways to get them quickly. Personally, I just do the tribe quests, meaning it takes 10 days to get all the Unidentifiable items. The Umbrite and Crystal Sand can also be a bit of a pain too.

I did this during shadow bringers. I found it super easy because I remember trying to do the faith farming and the alexander drop rates during ARR where so bad back then. Plus doing everything as a level 50 made it way harder.
I got 2! The grinds are brutal and I refuse to do the rest. At least the 2nd one goes by a lot faster once you know what you're doing. I hated the books but it was fun to get a fast normal ifirit system going for that last step. Love my Ninja daggers!
this is wonderful for a new player who has more experience with FFXI -- where relics took YEARS. it is nice to know if I do decide I want to go through with it and solidify my main by seeking a relic, it won't take actual years this time around.
I'm no amazing endgame player, but I actually love a mindless grind, so this is super worthwhile for me to start pursuing.
and my lil bro just recently got all the Anima Weapons to Lux, and yes, for the first step, for all but the gun, globe, and greatsword, he melted down a Zodiac Zeta weapon. He also accomplished getting all the Zodiac Zeta weapons on the free trial, to boot!

A tip for the fate step is to check all of the zones immediately. Blue Mage is also the best class for this as between using hydro pull and the ultravibe combo for ads or using missile and the new spell dimensional shift, you can clear these FATEs in seconds instead of minutes. Makes spawning in the one that won't a hell of a lot less tedious.
I've done two of these relics now, the first was for my Warrior that I did when I was level 60. I synced everything not even knowing that unsync was a thing. It took me roughly 6-7 months to complete, but I was so proud of myself when I did it and swore to never do it again. Earlier this year, after it being a few years since I did the one with my warrior class, I decided to get it on my Paladin as I really liked the way it looked. Between my Blue Mage, and having a much higher level class, I was able to complete the entirety of the relic in about a week playing 2-3 hours a day.
I still think the ARR relics are some of the best the game has to offer, especially with every stage offering it's own unique flare that just stands out a lot more than other relics. They're tough and tedious, but are worth it if you can figure out the best strategies.
I think there are two things that work towards FATE spawns.
The first is if there are too many active FATEs in the zone, so clearing out FATEs (or simply waiting for them to despawn) is required.
The other is that FATEs have a respawn timer. I've had situations where I've seen some FATEs spawn 2, 3 or even 4 times before the FATE I needed would spawn. The two FATEs inside the kobold mines in La Noscea seem to have very fast respawn timers, though I don't think both can be up at the same time.

I literally had a dream yesterday about accidentally swapping my book somehow when I was almost done with it so I had to restart the entire book again.
ARR player here and I had about 4 weapons at the Animus AKA Book stage before I had given up and just left them for about the last 10 years. Been on and off with the game but getting back into it with DT and decided that I would go ahead and finally finish that awesome Dragoon glamour, most specifically the weapon. Long story long because everything to do with ARR Relic farming takes a long time, I can confidently say that I will only ever finish ONE ARR Relic to the very end.
If you are one of those people who owns every ARR Relic at max level I salute you but I fear you.
Gratz on the grind! Now for the kettle.^^
DRG was my first one as well. At the time, I wasn't even max level (max was 80 also) when I started, but finished the grind when 80 for sure.^^ Since then, I've been passively collecting ingredients for the next 9 and same for the Anima weapons. Focused on the Anima part as it's easier (I'm like 25k tomes and 10 light farms away from having them all). But as for ARR:
- Collecting materia passively during my leveling of other classes was a nice, lazy way of skipping shelling out hundreds of thousands for the low level ones (while farming titles). I got myself millions of gils now but the trauma of spending ~1M for ingredients is still there.
- I've asked a friend to help me for the Atma step one of these days. Since you have to grind FATEs *with* your weapon, you can't cheese them with a BLU. Friend can. Downing 9 Atmas of each will still be a bit tedious, but wayyy less than having to do it legit on your own. And you can use a solid DPS class for everything as long as you don't advance it to the next step.

I feel ya, i literally just finished my first ARR relic and I have been playing since Stormblood! I think I will pass on all the other ones :P
ARR relics, my beloved.
This is still the only relic grind I've enjoyed in the game and I keep wishing we'd get something similar to it again but it seems like it will never be the case. And when I say that these are my favorite, I've done all of them once already, with another character also having the paladin and black mage relics. Right now I'm working on getting the black mage weapon again on a free trial character just to have something to do in the game.

Now im on the Novus questline
so far the worst part was the initial craft because i needed to lvl craftsman and botanist and then it was Leves from the books since i used all my allowances lvling my professions which meant at best 1 book per day.
I just managed to finish Longinus Zeta not to long ago, i now have it on my PvP Glamour gear. It was HELL going through just because of how tedius it is, and at first I didnt even like how Longinus looked but after a while...I grew to really like it. I definetly recommend doing it with friends so everyone can go through the grind together.
Un-synced is great advice so long as your ONLY Lv.90 toon isn't a white mage. DPS takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R even in Sastasha. So, yeah, I ran all the dungeons SYNCED for the Aetheric Density stuff. Also did all the books with no complaints..enjoyed the Fates and even waiting for them gave me something to do....lol.
I got 3 and may be embarking on the journey at least one more time for a job i don't even play like that (need them Sasuke's Blades 😭)
The best thing to help with this grind is to honestly just take it slow. The books is 100% the single most grueling step. But do just one book a day and I promise it becomes much more bearable.
For these grinds a lot of us have this "I'll just do as much as I can stand today" type of approach and we go from there but considering how long and tedious the ARR relic grind is, it's very easy to burn out. If you just accept that it'll take you 2ish weeks to get the weapon and break the process down, you'll save yourself the "ughhhhhhh"s 🤣
Meanwhile, I have three Zeta weapons on jobs that are barely over 60 *looks smug*
To be honest, grinding Light and Mahatma while also grinding FATEs for the Yokai made a big difference.
And since I'm working on all the ARR relics, I would play jobs that needed to grind Light/Mahatma to do FATEs while waiting for a specific FATE to spawn for a job that was working on the books.
I currently have 3 Zeta weapons (Bard, Black Mage, Dragoon), 2 Zodiac weapons (Paladin, Warrior), 2 Nexus Weapons (Ninja, Monk) and 2 Atma weapons (Summoner, Scholar).
Unemployment is a hell of a thing.
I think you need a lot of hugs for taking it upon yourself. I gave up my arr relics from the point of these books ...

Honestly, it’s not anywhere near as bad as you’re making it sound haha. The fates can be frustrating but server hopping helps for sure. It’s the worst part. For the dungeons I often brought along friends to make it social and break the monotony. Also for light farms, it takes 2min to run aurum vale, it takes 5 sec to kill ifrit ex. 3 ifrit ex = 1 aurum vale. You can get light way faster doing this and it’s far less tedious. Good luck with HW it’s less RnG based but more grinding.
Trying to do the FATEs during a FATE heavy event like the Yokai can be a blessing or a curse. Potential blessing as the FATEs can be cleared quickly, but a curse as you might not make it in time and will have to wait for it to respawn. It can also be a curse as FATEs will scale based on the number of players, but this difficulty is selected prior to the FATE spawning. So if a large group have been farming FATEs then they leave the zone, it can cause FATEs to spawn for 10 or 20+ player difficulty.
Also the number of times I've been cursing Blue Mages, since many boss FATEs are not immune to instant death mechanics, and so Blue Mages using the freeze + Ultravibration combo to instantly kill the boss before you can tag it.
You only need a bronze medal to get credit for the books at least.
i don't think a lot of new players understand arr relics use to take like 5-6 hours a step and you would run it with others one weapon took weeks because the grind was real and is still real just a little easyer because you can run it alone but relics are meant to do with others not alone and that's where a lot of new players make mistakes thinking how can some one do all of these most players made relic grinding party's for light and books and was a lot of fun
Just know your pain and suffering has not been in vein.

It took me about a month and a half to do my MNK ARR relic weapon. Finished it up, swapped to the "Z" title, bought the glamour version for the glamour plate, and vowed never do another one again.
Funny part was that I ended up leveling my MNK to 89 in the process of doing it.
This claws look bad ass xD. i also told myself to never do this again and i ending doing few more weapons xD
The worst thing to me so far (im still on books...) is the Leves actually because for some reason the levemete never seems to HAVE it so I have to accept all of them, do them, then go back and pray.
For Heavensward relics, just save up Poetics and never, ever let yourself overcap. You need thousands. Thousands upon thousands upon tens of thousands of Poetics.
But thats 90% of the grind, so just dump all of your GC seals and poetics to get those materials for the HW relics and sit on the first relic step for a few days, mass farming those crystals (50% drop rate i think) until you have 14 of everything
poetics is easy with hunts, though there are steps later on in zeta questline thats equally as brutal as the books
I was an idiot and did the zodiac weapon before entering heavensward because I didn’t know I could make it faster
I grinded as BLM until stardust nexus, but because i was a newbie i didnt realise i could run the dungeons unsynced 😭 it was so tedious, i ended up putting the game down for 2 & a half years haha. This was also partially because i played 300 hours in a very short time-frame after being made redundant & then being in COVID lock-down, so i was a bit burned out generally. I re-subbed last week and finished the zodiac zeta today and it was worth it! (I think, anyway 😄)
I am in the process of this for my PLD and on book 2 😢 I couldn't imagine doing this multiple times. Thanks for the vid

Would be nice if you could get the glams per phase like every other relic in HW onward.
I remember the times atmas had far lower drops rates, the books had more enemies, you couldn't unsync the dungeons, the fates for books hadn't had their respawn timers reduced... light farming, again no unsync...
Still nowhere as bad as the 3rd step of the heavensward relic (on its release) though.

Did this a couple years back. Definitely the books are the worst part of this weapon. I agree, they could delete the fates, and honestly the guildhests, from the list and it would be a lot better. They won't since they have zero interest or incentive in adjusting such old content, but it definitely would improve the process.
They could also replace the fates with trials if they wanted to keep a certain amount of content required for each book
But also I should say for light farming, I opted to do Tam Tara Deepcroft since it felt like the shortest, easiest dungeon at the time. It had the fewest imposed walls making it so you could pull boss to boss without a problem, and I think was a shorter path than doing Aurum Vale
I've got 1, going for all of them, halfway done with my current WHM grind. Honestly, the only soul sucking part for me is the Atma. The Atma grind can take 1 fate, or 30 fates, it doesn't matter. And, you just gotta keep going until you get a single Atma, let alone 12. It's that RNG factor that kills me, as everything else has some measurable factor.
As for fates, though, you should world hop. If you use addons, there's also things like sonar that track them across the DC. I don't use it, as I felt like it was cheating, but you can totally look up coordinates for the fate and world hop around, see if it's there.
The way I was able to stomach it is this: I did it in 3 days. If I were to split it up into nice segments each day, I wouldn't have Ragnarok. I waited until I had time off work, and made that my content. I also tend to hyper-fixate on things, though, so this is a very niche way I found that works for me.
Feel like I had pretty good luck with my Atmas this time around. Don't think any took more than ten FATEs.
Players who get these weapons on the free trial are crazy to me

I'm up to the first step for the dude who is not Gerolt and yea, I remember thinking "this looks damn tedious... I'll come back to it after I'm done with fun stuff to do".
I used to do dungeons for the light farming (and Mahatma) step.
Buuuut, I found out that was a colossal waste of time when you can complete both of those steps in under and hour doing Thornmarch EX unsync'd (@ Lv.90 WITHOUT bonus).
Thank God for 3rd party tools! Allied seals were a pain in the ass but once on S rank hunts I got seals in no time. I'm giving up on most relics anyway because I want to take back my stolen life!
I've done 4 zodiacs and I never thought of sever hopping lmao oofs lol
Yeah its painful but nothing compared to Empyrean trials in FF11 where you have to wait 4 to 8 hours for a NM to spawn only to have it get sniped while you were away or afk. Or to get it once knowing you need to get 3 more kills 🤣🤣🤣

For clearing FATE so the one you want can spawn faster BLU is your friend. It's almost doing them unsynced. XD
Relics in XIV are all pretty easy compared to relics in XI. 😅
In XI, one step was farming dynamis currency. IIRC, at one point in the game, it costed somewhere around 300+ mil gil.
Now when you finaly finish your firs weapon it's time to make another one and another one xD ARR have one the best looking relicts.
Second time is faster because you can prep more stuff beforehand. Same with Anima weapons. And don't tell me you will never do this again. We all say this before xD
1st shiny weapons in bozja look preaty cool and are very easy to get. Strongly recomending you a spear. It's one of the best looking one.
Eureka is pretty chill until you end in hydatos then it's become slogg.
Having podcast or watching youtube help mitigate the slog during grind.
Got my stardust rod. Every step i was like, " ok surely thats all i had to do". But no... there is always more to do... nearly lost my sanity

i farmed the lighting part by doing spamming the navel (normal) 1 run takes 6 seconds and if u do it 4 time u get as much as doing a dungeon . so thats 24 seconds instead of 3 mins by doing a dungeon for the same amount of points
I did do all ten Zodiac Relics on an old character which is now probably going to be deleted. I can attest that had I not had Social Security money, I would have ended up breaking my bank and eating ramen for the entire life cycle as I would not be able to buy any food or water. XD
I am only going to focus on one Zodiac Relic on my current character(I have the money for the big spends in the penultimate step due to a misclick) and stick with easier relics like the Anima Relics.
I just did mine and tbh it wasnt all that bad at all and did it casually over a week.
Hw is infintely easier. The hardest part may be the sands grind but thats easily circumvented with a leveled crafter or gatherer. Or if you have money to burn just by the primal items and boom 60 sands. Beyond that it is a lot of unsynch dungeons and poetics/gc seals. If you have a toon not maxed this will absolutely blitz by as you can get so many more poetics it seems. As an omni 90 it seemed like i was being drip fed poetics meanwhile my comedy and causality were both capped in mins. Gl and look forward to it.
The worst part is definitely the FATEs, especially Surprise! That FATE can die in a hole. That said i did do three of these relics haha
im currently working on the nexus curtana for my PLD and just started trials of the braves and its truly frustrating for fates
in currently working on my sch zodiac weapon because you need to finish one to unlock the kettles for mnk....
i did that relic on free trial and at around level 57
Sweet summer child. First of all, the fate step now has wayyyyyyy better drop rates than they did back then. Most people abandonned it right there because they would be stuck on the map for a week grinding fate after fate and get no drops. It was so bad people started theory crafting nonsensical stuff to make themselves believe they could increase the drop rate because they were just so desperate. If you think the books are annoying now, consider this: They nerfed them to the effing ground. Originally you needed 900 of the current non cappable tome for ONE book, you had to kill 12 of each mobs instead of 3, and note that people made full party to do that because since it wad current, MANY people were fighting over the same mobs and the same obnoxious fate with abysmal timers, the materia step, again, those were current materias. So they were absolutely out of price. Its not like now where you can buy a bulk on the MB for almost nothing. You had to join spiritbond farming parties for lvl 1s, 2s and 3s. And you couldn't "extract" materias like you do now. No. You "converted" your gear to materias. Meaning you either had to recraft or buy gear every single time your spiritbonded it. That legit took forever. Then, there was the desynth step. If you were a crafter, this one was easier but you could only level 3 desynth classes back then instead of all of them and ofc you needed items from 4 classes, and then you had to craft an item with that desynthed material from current master recipes. If you weren't a crafter, you better be knowing one or level them or be a rich SoB to buy the crafted items or you'd be effectively stuck on that step without any possibility to advance further. Not to mention you needed 400k gil to buy some items, which in ARR money was kind of a lot for the average Joe. Then, the last steps of light farming were argueably the easiest appart from the first couple steps before the fate grind. So yeah. Imagine with all those nerfs, they're still the worst relics to make. So imagine how bad they were when they were current content. That's why after that they made the anima a way easier grind.
Lmao i just finished the last arr relic, working on my last hw relic and never unsyncd a thing. You can push fate spawnsby doin other fates. Never stand around n wait. You could be passivley working on hw while doin arr.
I looked on my main I played 2 years ago for about a year and had 2 relics from ARR, I didn't think they were that bad compared to some of the guild wars 2 ones... lol
i wish they tunned down this relics weapons, is such a boring thing to do all the quest all the pre reqs, its a nightmare

Yea... it's honestly not so bad now? I think we just spammed binding coils for light with a good group before the nerf since dungeons were so mind blowingly slow. And fate for the stones were waaay worse knew a person who didn't get 1 of the stones till almost 2 weeks of nonstop farming
I got three of those and first one was tedious yes but still okay seconed was mind numbing at the book stage and third was okay because i had my friend as company xD

You should of been there when we couldn't unsync.... if I remember correctly for light. It was Garuda HM was the grind fest.
I got the axe for my warrior. This will be my first and last Zodiac weapon.

I've done a wep or two in every expansion and I very much disliked going for Eureka and Bozja weps. The others were fun and soloable. Sounds crazy bc the ARR and HW ones are HARD and take FOREVER, but once you get to the SB/SHB experience you'll be wondering if you can have more ARR / HW relic experiences so you can gtfo of Eureka and Bozja. lol

True suffering? You should have done them many years ago, before the ARR relic quests got nerfed - hundreds of FATEs and dungeons with minimal drop rates, books with even more tasks and light farming required also a lot more.
And to think people are complaining about the manderville weapons
I think the book phase should be cut in half. but other wise it's fine just a bit to long. it was the Materia step that got on my nerves.

Dream on, if you think ARR's Relic was bad then you're in for a cruel wake-up call with the horror known as Eureka.
I grinded out EVERY Relic from ARR and HW before returning to Eureka to finish one of them and I'd honestly do it all again if it would allow me to avoid that nightmare realm.
Nahh not that bad tbh. Only Hydatos is bad cause of very small rewards from NM. So far i have blast i eureka

it is pure masochistic running for the relic... self mutilation pure and simple..
as someone with at least one relic from all the expansions and ARR, i'm not totally sure i understand a lot of what was being said in this video. you talk a lot about being "honest" and how some steps are overboard (the fates), but i found this extremely misleading. there is no honesty in grinding for a weapon in an MMO that is over a decade old, where you purposely dont use systems to make things easier when you can just... do it faster with them? for example, server/world hopping made the fate step literally take 30 mins max for all 3 fates in a book, and you saying that it was too much is really ironic to me.
work smarter not harder on the SHB one (you'll need it).
