Who wants to see an updated version of this video, after the installation of the Hurontario St. LRT (streetcar) will change things up COMPLETELY, once again?
I really enjoyed seeing this video, seeing Mississauga from 1989 made me have flashbacks because I grew up in Port Credit, it's so amazing how it's changed since then. I remember when that McDonald's used to be there my Mom used to take me there all the time on the way to the babysitters, When I went with my Mom one day to go there the McDonald's was torn and it was so disappointing. Why did it get taken out? Seeing how Mississauga looked in 1989 brought back so many childhood memories like where the gas station was where Cousin's food is my Mom used to get gas there all the time in the 80's. I like the new Mississauga but at the same time miss the old one too.
I remember the McDonald's closed around 99 or 2000 because I went there just before it closed and I remember there was a sign saying it was closing or moving. It was just left as am empty lot for years and I'm not sure if they still did anything with it. I haven't been to Port Credit in awhile. The McDonald's eventually came to the plaza at Hurontario and King Street as a McDonald's Express.

Loved this! I was born in 1990 in New Brunswick, and came directly to Mississauga after birth. I've been here all my life and wouldn't live anywhere else in the GTA. Its nice to see how much it changed. Thanks for this great video!
The NW corner of Sandalwood Square on Bristol Road East (at around 1:35, left side) burned down a few years ago. The fire destroyed a couple of restaurants and a CIBC.
We moved to Mississauga in 1968-my parents still live in the house they bought that year. I've lived in Toronto since '90 and cannot believe the huge changes over the years. I remember learning to golf at a little course on Hurontario just north of what's now Square One-it was called Hawthorne and remember driving with my dad to pick my sister up from horse back riding lessons that were in fields on Baseline Road (long since called Eglington) near Tomken. The urban sprawl really is endless.
This video should be archived with the City of Mississauga. Footage like this offers a reference point for future generations to see how much this city has developed. Enjoyed every minute of this video. Thanks for sharing.
I got your E-mail, Storecast. Thanks for creating and posting this! The main reasons for the increased greenness in the first part of the video was that the street still had ditches (it was widened to 6 lanes in 1992) and so no trees were planted yet.
Great video, thank you! I like how you put the videos just on top of each other, lets you see how much the city has changed (or how much the town has transformed into a city I should say)!
Thanks, I had overlayed my Captions (comments) for every landmark, but RUclips removed that feature years ago. There was a lot more context to this video!
@@STORECAST That would have been neat! I'm glad I came across this video, it's funny when it hits me that many of these neighborhoods were just trees at one point.
I lived just behind Wally’s restaurant(which used to be a gas station)on Omeath Crescent from 1970 to 1982 , I sure would love to have seen video footage of those early days before Square One was even built in 1973…
Interesting watch, thanks! Either camera doesnt really do it justice compared to in person but if you know what to look for outside of the obvious things a lot has changed. Ironically, its also nice to see side by side how much is still the same.
I remember getting breakfast at that McDonalds just south of the QEW after weekend morning hockey games. I was surprised when it closed like 10+ years ago, they seemed to be doing decent business, it was just an awkward location I guess
The Square One Mississauga Valley and Central Parkway East and West Area is my favorite but I also have a lot of good memories around The Hurontario and Dundas area and Port Credit. Mississauga was definitely better back then. Everything was.
During their annual 'Kids Day' at the start of summer, you couldn't get near it. There was a line-up out the door and about an hour and a half wait to get to the service counter. Good times.
It was there till 1999 or 2000. I remember I went just before it closed and after it just became an empty lot which I think it still might be. Not sure if they ever did anything with the space. But I also think the reason it closed was because they built that McDonald's Express in the plaza at Hurontario and King Street that is still there.
So the CIBC building by Square One wasn't there in 1989 and wasn't even under construction. When did they start building it because it was all finished when I moved here in 92
There is hardly any change after Hurontario and Fairview all through Dundas because that is one area they have just left the same since maybe the 60's. It seriously needs to be cleaned up. It's the slums of Mississauga. So many drug dealers, addicts, pimps, and homeless people in general etc.
You obviously weren't around back in the day so that's why you think that. You'd have to be around to understand how much has changed for the worse unfortunately.
Really cool video, a couple questions: The building that you pass in 2012 on the right side on hurontario and Fairview, was it there in 1989? Also The plaza you pass after hurontario and Fairview with the Fabric land, was there a KFC there back in 1989?
@@heathermcdonald6090 yeah I know Bella Vista was there. I live at Fairview Place across the street which was built in 1984. I didn't mean Bella Vista. I meant the other building that's a condo, the Fairmont Condos next to the Fire Station. It looks like it was still under construction in the video. So I was wondering what year it was finished.Yeah it wasn't a KFC. I thought I saw a sign for it but it wasn't. I remember Lastracco's Pizzeria used to be in the plaza with the Fabric Land though which was really good. Also the CIBC building by Square One looks like it wasn't even started for Construction yet but when I moved here in 1992 it was fully complete. So not sure what year the Construction started and when it what year it was complete either? strata.ca/toronto/the-fairmont-condos-25-fairview-rd-w
0:56 *I have never NOT been greeted by a RED Traffic Light on Hurontario St. approaching Matheson* (where the HJA Brown Centre is), Day or Night, even if it is 9 AM, Noon, 6 PM North-bound or South-bound.. even if it's 3 AM... and there are NO waiting cars on Matheson... it doesn't matter. That Light's gonna be Red for drivers on Hurontario.
lol i know how u feel about being stuck on nahani way been living there for 10 years nd my house is close to hurantario so ik the exact damn stop light lol
David Makhan To let you in on a little secret, before I even filmed this (the sequel), I wanted to get the owner of a mint 1989 Blue Honda Civic I'd seen in my neighbourhood - exactly like the model seen at 6:20 mark (in the old footage), drive down the street in front of me in the new footage.. *that would've been time travel for sure!*
Appreciate that you made the effort but what the heck are we celebrating exactly? Mississauga is a textbook basket case for creatively impoverished land use and urban planning not to mention a desert for real culture and human interaction. I moved there in 1970 before it was actually Mississauga and I can’t stand having to go back.
the annoying part about mississauga is that some of the places like dundas are covered with places where everything is built for everybody other than canadians....i'm sorry but im not the only one who doesn't speak middle eastern along with thousands of others......i loved the video though
Got the Libs calling you names now...be careful, don't want to offend them or hurt their feelings. Back in '89 we did things right and didn't have safe spaces for snowflakes like these two obvious ones. Multiculturalism, ya, gotta love that shit now don't we Gus?

WoW! Now this takes me back since I grew up/raised in my Mississauga
wow.. how amazing it is to learn how Mississauga looks like 26 years ago :-)
I remember the old scenes of Hurontario St. I grew up in Mississauga.
I went to T.L. Kennedy high school in 1989. Total flashback!
Me too. Started grade 9 in 86 all the way to OAC.

A literal trip down memory lane
Passed my building at Hurontario and Fairview. Been here since 1992

Ye. I'm looking forward to the apartment buildings they gonna build there.
Wow ! Can identify each and every landmark , fun ! Thanks for posting
Thanks for commenting. I think a follow-up video is in order when it COMPLETELY changes again soon, after the installation of the LRT.

Very nice, well kept Ave.
Reminds me of Colfax Ave. in my city, Denver CO, only cleaner. Mississauga looks like a lovely city!

I just moved to mississauga a few years ago. In your video it looks like nothing changed. I see pretty much the same buildings.

one thing I noticed, a lot less traffic lights.
Mississauga looking more colorful now!
Only because of the camera footage. Life was better back in the day and looked colorful in person
Seriously? Nobody else is going to comment on the gladiator soundtrack used here?

I miss the Harvey's that used to be on King Street (and the McDonald's after the QEW...that property is still empty for some reason).
A succession of ethnic restaurants followed,

Amazing
The good old mc donalds rip
well cameras got much better
amazing video man!
thank you for sharing,,,this is really great video
Was Mississauga better Then or Now? What's your favourite Stretch of Road/Neighbourhood in Mississauga?
Make sure you watch in HD and FULL SCREEN.
Streetsville.
***** Indeed - downtown Streetsville (Queen St.) is a trip down memory lane; in the 3-5 minutes it takes to drive through that stretch!
Cooksville

Way better than and that goes for the world in general.
A Mc Donalds south of the QEW/Hurontario?
Wonder, what isn't there anymore !
+Bilal Ahmed Yeah! it was around until the mid 90s. I remember it fondly, Growing up in PC this meant home was just coming soon!
+Robert McGregor oh, I wonder why they got rid of it.
Too many accidents from southbound traffic turning into it,

Yes it is; you can see the crane. Also the old city hall beside it, which was a Century 21 office later.
@@ALuimes I think I saw the crane but it's hard to see. I did notice a construction sign though.

I miss to live here, but I dont miss the traffic...:) Great job, great video!!!
Great video. thank you. Wish i could see similar video of Vaughan, where i grew up.
I bet the bumps in the road would be a whole lot smoother if you were still piloting that big Bonneville! :-)
You really know your car models. The hood ornament must have been the giveaway!
Biggest change here is how much technology has changed in terms of personal video recorders.
+Kan K Yeah that was kinda my thoughts as well. It's hard to tell what it looked like in '89 with that horrible resolution.

Really not that much has changed considering it was 25 years ago! Biggest changes by far are Port Credit.
In fairness to 1989, the picture quality you have for back then sucks compared to the one today.
I wish they stop building government homes like on Creditview road its bad but i still love Mississauga.
