In that case, just activate it on the Cloud and not your dongle. You'll never lose anything on the cloud. Also, I'm not sure you can activate the same product on both your dongle and the cloud.

The activation code is tied to who you bought the software from. It's different per manufacturer. Typically, at the least, you can login to your account who you bought the product from and see the code.

It all depends on which software or plugin you got. Some will email it, some will have you login to your online account to see it, and some just have you do a cloud activation. Hope this helps. 👍
i found an ilok stuck into the back of a smashed Apple Monitor. i opened it up to see what was on it and theres like 30 liscense keys. is there a way to tell who the original owner is?

I have an issue with the licenses. Because I had an issue with my motherboard i had to get it replaced and when I got the new motherboard and reinstalled iLok and open the account the software appeared as installed but every time I'm in my daw working with the vsts it tells me it doesn't recognize the vst. What would be a solution to this?
That is dependent upon the product you bought and not iLok itself. Check your online account for the product and see if there is some licensing information.
what is the safest method, on the cloud, on the computer or on the Ilok USB? So in case the computer or hard drive breaks down. I ask because I'm unsure and I activated my licenses on my computer and someone told me that if the computer breaks down, I can no longer access my licenses because I should have deactivated them beforehand. Is that correct?
I'm not sure that's completely accurate, but I do recommend activating your licenses on a physical iLok or on the cloud if allowed. I don't activate anything on my computer.

I have my active product license on my desktop machine. None of these steps seems to download the actual plug-in to my machine VST3 folder so it can be used in my DAW.
This video is not for installing the software or plug-in. You'll need to look to your manufacturer for how to do that as it's different per manufacturer. This video is strictly for activating the license via iLok assuming it uses iLok.

What if a software purchase provides licenses for multiple machines?? Do the other machines need access to the same ilock account? Or does the purchase need to share one of their remaining licenses with another person’s ilock username? How does THAT work?
It depends on which plugin or software you got. Some of them may not provide a license key if they do a cloud activation. You'll need to check the manufacturers documentation.
Some plugins and software require the dongle and don't allow for cloud activation. The dongle is $30 or so and you can get them at guitar center or even on Amazon.
Am I missing something? iLok support tells me desktop activation is not supported, and I NEED an iLok USB 2nd generation or greater. I don't even get a cloud option.
I believe it depends on the actual plugin and not so much iLok. For example, some plug-in manufacturers will allow a cloud activation for their software, but I think they actually program that into their software. I don't think iLok has anything to do with it. Honestly, it's best to just buy the physical iLok. It's like $30 or so.

i downloaded my free SSL plugins I got when i bought an SSL interface... did everything,, got the 2 plugins into Ilok. activated them restarted computer - but they do not show up in Logic X. ?????
Not showing up in the program isn't an iLok problem but an installation problem. It usually means you didn't install the plugins in the proper folder. Unfortunately, I don't use Logic or Macs so I can't guide you in the right direction for this.

As long as your plugins are saved to the physical iLok or iLok cloud, then you will be good to go. I just switched out our studio PC for a new Mac Studio the other week, and it was plug n' play. Just make sure that if you have any plugins licensed to your computer in the iLok License Manager software that you move them to the cloud or dongle.

Unfortunately not. There are several reasons why a plugin doesn't show up in a daw. The reasons could also be different based on the daw. You need to make sure the plugin is installed in the right folder for your daw and that it is also compatible with it.
It should, but I've heard rumors of iLok issues with a certain version of Mac OS and Slate. You'll need to look into that. I use a PC so I can't assist.
Excellent presentation!! I currently use Ilok with Mixmeister Fusion. I was wondering if you did a fresh install does the Ilok recognize the program immediately or do you have to do a manual install like you did. The reason I ask is that I purchased a new laptop and the 1st program I installed was Fusion and Ilok came up immediately. However something went wrong and a new laptop went into a repair loop boot and I was lucky to get it off the laptop with a restore. This same exact thing happened on a previous laptop and lost everything. Have you ever heard of this happening?
At least you managed to get ILok and MixMeister up and running. I haven't even reached that stage! When I do install MM Fusion, ILok isn't installed along with it, just a blank shortcut and the inability to open MM. To make matters worse, every time I try to install ILok separately, I'm stopped dead in my tracks by the dreaded Error 1935. I'm using WIndows 11 (like you, I think), and I'm looking in to ways to fix this. Any insight in this problem?
@@optiquemusic6204 I apologize for this delayed answer. I have a separate install for Ilok. When I purchased Mixmeister I had to go Ilok and register. I just recently got a new laptop and Ilok was a separate install. I opened Ilok first. Needed my username and PW and then I installed Mixmeister and applied the license to my new laptop. It works fine. If you remember your information for Ilok go there 1st. Make sure you have all the info correct and then open Mixmeister. It should work
Hello I installed Xpand 2 that requires i Lok for product validation on my Daw the Reason 12 Did all the procedure as per the instructions of your video the VST does not appear in my list of instruments should I open the Daw with i-Lok open for Xpand 2 to work on my Rason ?
First, make sure you have the VST installed in the right place. This would be where you have Reason set up to look for VST plugins. Second, look at the compatibility for Xpand 2. It looks like it has some specific compatibility so I'm not sure that the 64-bit version will work with Reason.
@@AudioSorcerer I did a research and found that Xpand 2 is not compatible with Reason but it is compatible with Ableton Live among other dwas, I will use it in Ableton live thanks for the tip.

Hi everyone, my Computer died. I will have to order a new one. I am a bit nervous, because I could remove my ilok activations on the old computer first. Does someone have experienced this too? Is it possible to install the ilok manager on the new computer and deactivate the old computer?
@@petralustich617 I could save the hard disk and boot it on another Mac. Starting the License manager I was able to remove the ilok by contacting the ilok support. As I remember well it is call “redeem licenses”. It took around two weeks and then the licenses where back on the ilok cloud.

@@petralustich617 I have my licenses on the Mac or the cloud. I am not using the ilok stick. Log into your ilok manager (I guess it can be also on another computer). Inside the manager you should see something called „redeem“ or such. The thing is, that ilok can’t reset them directly. The support at ilok will forward your reset request. I was surprised that it went so smooth, after hearing some crazy stories. Don’t worry, you will get it done. Otherwise contact the ilok support directly. Best wishes.
I don't have auto-tune so I'm not sure how they do their activation. When you purchased it did they say they would deposit it for you or did they give you a key you had to deposit yourself?

The iLok shouldn't be tied to your old computer. I bought a new studio computer a few years ago and just plugged my iLok in from my old computer and had to do nothing.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the question. Once you activate a plugin in iLok Manager it can be used in all DAWs. XPand2 that comes with Pro Tools is an AAX plugin and not VST so it won't work in FL Studio.

I'm not sure on that. All manufacturers are different on how they handle their licenses. With Melodyne 5 being out for a while now it might be hard to sell Melodyne 4. Software doesn't hold value like hardware.

@@ellensoomers9496 yeah, my only info is that you might have them installed on the wrong vst folder, I had like 3-4 vst folders and I installed it in the wrong one, so try looking up where your vst folder locations are and installing them to there, that's what my issue was, if yours is something else then I'm not sure what to do, have a good one!
@@AudioSorcerer After some pain I've figured out my problem. It was to get to use Exponential Audio plugins R4 and Nimbus. I'd no idea how to get to use them. It wasn't obvious. There were no instructions for it with the purchase. Eventually found instructions online - just find the online page where you can download the plugins for installing. I'm new to this. Geez music production stuff can take some damn figuring out!!!!!!!! I see both the plugins in my DAW now. So if you activate the licenses to your PC then simply download the plugins and install them, your PC just recognises your right to use the plugins? I just wish I knew exactly how that works; how the license activation communicates with the plugin installation.
You should see your license in the iLok manager software. All you need to do is drag it onto either the desktop or the iLok section. I believe I mention that in the video but I can't remember.

Still haven't figured out how to do the Slate stuff that demands a physical iLok which I have never had.
You can use the cloud for that. They have that in the iLok manager - just found it here! Wish it was easier to "figure" it out.

How do you backup your license. It appears that if your old computer dies, then you are screwed?
Save licenses to the physical iLok or cloud and not your computer. You can always move licenses around in the iLok manager software.

The plugin or software you buy will let you know if an iLok activation is required. No every software or plugin uses iLok.

I don't think Xpand is compatible with FL Studio. Go back and check the documentation on that.

I got the problem that i send my autorization for izotope ozone 9 to ilok but i dont have an ilok usb, if i open the cloud it doesnt work, any ideas?
Does Izotope say they support cloud authorization or is it sending the license to your iLok account? Those are two different things.

This video is not for installing the software or plug-in. You'll need to look to your manufacturer for how to do that as it's different per manufacturer. This video is strictly for activating the license via iLok assuming it uses iLok.

You just buy the software from Synchro Arts. They will have instructions on how you activate it.
What if a software purchase provides licenses for multiple machines?? Do the other machines need access to the same ilock account? Or does the purchase need to share one of their remaining licenses with another person’s ilock username?

It depends on which plugin or software you got. Some of them may not provide a license key if they do a cloud activation. You'll need to check the manufacturers documentation.
Every time I go to activate, it says I need the dongle but I already purchased so like wtf I don’t want to have to get the dongle.
Some plugins and software require the dongle and don't allow for cloud activation. The dongle is $30 or so and you can get them at guitar center or even on Amazon.
Am I missing something? iLok support tells me desktop activation is not supported, and I NEED an iLok USB 2nd generation or greater. I don't even get a cloud option.
I believe it depends on the actual plugin and not so much iLok. For example, some plug-in manufacturers will allow a cloud activation for their software, but I think they actually program that into their software. I don't think iLok has anything to do with it. Honestly, it's best to just buy the physical iLok. It's like $30 or so.

i downloaded my free SSL plugins I got when i bought an SSL interface... did everything,, got the 2 plugins into Ilok. activated them restarted computer - but they do not show up in Logic X. ?????
Not showing up in the program isn't an iLok problem but an installation problem. It usually means you didn't install the plugins in the proper folder. Unfortunately, I don't use Logic or Macs so I can't guide you in the right direction for this.

It's different per manufacturer. Some require a physical dongle and some allow cloud activations.

As long as your plugins are saved to the physical iLok or iLok cloud, then you will be good to go. I just switched out our studio PC for a new Mac Studio the other week, and it was plug n' play. Just make sure that if you have any plugins licensed to your computer in the iLok License Manager software that you move them to the cloud or dongle.

Unfortunately not. There are several reasons why a plugin doesn't show up in a daw. The reasons could also be different based on the daw. You need to make sure the plugin is installed in the right folder for your daw and that it is also compatible with it.

It should, but I've heard rumors of iLok issues with a certain version of Mac OS and Slate. You'll need to look into that. I use a PC so I can't assist.
Excellent presentation!! I currently use Ilok with Mixmeister Fusion. I was wondering if you did a fresh install does the Ilok recognize the program immediately or do you have to do a manual install like you did. The reason I ask is that I purchased a new laptop and the 1st program I installed was Fusion and Ilok came up immediately. However something went wrong and a new laptop went into a repair loop boot and I was lucky to get it off the laptop with a restore. This same exact thing happened on a previous laptop and lost everything. Have you ever heard of this happening?

When I do install MM Fusion, ILok isn't installed along with it, just a blank shortcut and the inability to open MM. To make matters worse, every time I try to install ILok separately, I'm stopped dead in my tracks by the dreaded Error 1935. I'm using WIndows 11 (like you, I think), and I'm looking in to ways to fix this.

@@optiquemusic6204 I apologize for this delayed answer. I have a separate install for Ilok. When I purchased Mixmeister I had to go Ilok and register. I just recently got a new laptop and Ilok was a separate install. I opened Ilok first. Needed my username and PW and then I installed Mixmeister and applied the license to my new laptop. It works fine. If you remember your information for Ilok go there 1st. Make sure you have all the info correct and then open Mixmeister. It should work
Hello I installed Xpand 2 that requires i Lok for product validation on my Daw the Reason 12 Did all the procedure as per the instructions of your video the VST does not appear in my list of instruments should I open the Daw with i-Lok open for Xpand 2 to work on my Rason ?
First, make sure you have the VST installed in the right place. This would be where you have Reason set up to look for VST plugins. Second, look at the compatibility for Xpand 2. It looks like it has some specific compatibility so I'm not sure that the 64-bit version will work with Reason.
@@AudioSorcerer I did a research and found that Xpand 2 is not compatible with Reason but it is compatible with Ableton Live among other dwas, I will use it in Ableton live thanks for the tip.

Try moving the license from the cloud to your desktop within the iLok manager software.

I still don't get the view you have A Sorcerer. I have managed to get some of my licenses activated but next to slate digital virtual mic there is a little padlock. So how can I unlock that please? In very simples steps if possible, thanks
Hi Jackie. Do you own the Slate microphone? If you don't have that, then you won't have access to the microphone module within the VMR plugin.

@@jackiejames8575 You should have gotten a separate license for the mics from the VMR. You'll need to activate that separately via iLok.
I accidently clicked the ilok, which I don't have rather than pc, now i'm screwed. Won't let me instal or deactivate.
Just drag the license from the iLok section to the PC section.

Hi everyone, my Computer died. I will have to order a new one. I am a bit nervous, because I could remove my ilok activations on the old computer first. Does someone have experienced this too? Is it possible to install the ilok manager on the new computer and deactivate the old computer?

@@petralustich617 I could save the hard disk and boot it on another Mac. Starting the License manager I was able to remove the ilok by contacting the ilok support. As I remember well it is call “redeem licenses”. It took around two weeks and then the licenses where back on the ilok cloud.

@@petralustich617 I have my licenses on the Mac or the cloud. I am not using the ilok stick. Log into your ilok manager (I guess it can be also on another computer). Inside the manager you should see something called „redeem“ or such. The thing is, that ilok can’t reset them directly. The support at ilok will forward your reset request. I was surprised that it went so smooth, after hearing some crazy stories. Don’t worry, you will get it done. Otherwise contact the ilok support directly. Best wishes.

I don't have auto-tune so I'm not sure how they do their activation. When you purchased it did they say they would deposit it for you or did they give you a key you had to deposit yourself?

The iLok shouldn't be tied to your old computer. I bought a new studio computer a few years ago and just plugged my iLok in from my old computer and had to do nothing.

You don't get a key with the iLok. You will get license keys when you buy software that you can add to your iLok.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the question. Once you activate a plugin in iLok Manager it can be used in all DAWs. XPand2 that comes with Pro Tools is an AAX plugin and not VST so it won't work in FL Studio.

I'm not sure on that. All manufacturers are different on how they handle their licenses. With Melodyne 5 being out for a while now it might be hard to sell Melodyne 4. Software doesn't hold value like hardware.

@@ellensoomers9496 yeah, my only info is that you might have them installed on the wrong vst folder, I had like 3-4 vst folders and I installed it in the wrong one, so try looking up where your vst folder locations are and installing them to there, that's what my issue was, if yours is something else then I'm not sure what to do, have a good one!

@@AudioSorcerer After some pain I've figured out my problem. It was to get to use Exponential Audio plugins R4 and Nimbus. I'd no idea how to get to use them. It wasn't obvious. There were no instructions for it with the purchase. Eventually found instructions online - just find the online page where you can download the plugins for installing. I'm new to this. Geez music production stuff can take some damn figuring out!!!!!!!! I see both the plugins in my DAW now.
So if you activate the licenses to your PC then simply download the plugins and install them, your PC just recognises your right to use the plugins? I just wish I knew exactly how that works; how the license activation communicates with the plugin installation.

You should see your license in the iLok manager software. All you need to do is drag it onto either the desktop or the iLok section. I believe I mention that in the video but I can't remember.

How do you eject a Ilok from a Mac book pro?
I don't think you have to eject the iLok like a typical USB drive. I don't think that option exists but I'm not by my computer at the moment to check.
