Toaks 750ml Ti cup is about the smallest, lightest water boiling cup the windmaster with the triflex will nest into along with a small 110g canister & a lighter. I've tried several combos and several failed to fit, including the Toaks 650ml. If you want this stove to nest with a canister just for water boiling, then the mostest ultralightest option is the 750 stated above. It will slide in horizontally but only just barely. As far as the simmer option (Evernew 900ml), I have a solution: Instead of walking with a Ti cup in addition to your simmer pan - utilize a 1.1oz Fozzils Pack flat cup. It takes up absolutely zero space in your pack (about as much as a sheet of paper). And it can hold hot (maybe even boiling) liquids. Then you can start putting the 110g canister back in your Evernew along with the Soto. Ultralight AF.
Great video - thanks! I love my WindMaster stove so much more than others I own (Optimus Crux Lite, Trangia alcohol, etc.) that the nesting question is not an issue for me. I went thru similar process with 4-flex & triflex stands, 450, 750 & 900 mL pots. The few extra grams of the WM stove is not a hassle & could save me grams of fuel vs lighter or smaller stoves. I like to cook in camp, not only boil water, so the WM is a superior stove with its regulator compared to others that can't run a decent simmer. In the end, I store the WM stove, mini Bic, small sponge & buff in the 750 Ti pot. I recently found there is enough space to stash a couple instant coffee or tea bags so I don't have to retrieve my food bag upon waking to make my first hot drink. I now carry the fuel canister separately in outer pocket of pack.
Just a brief comment: nesting inside cookware is not the only option. If space inside your pack is limited, the cram your socks or base layer garments into the pots and use the space now available for carrying the Windmaster and canister in a separate pouch as I do. You can save space by using the small canister too. They will last long enough for a weekend backpack. I repurposed some canvass and sewed a pouch that holds the canister and the Windmaster, plus my eating utensils and a lighter and put it in my pack without nesting in the cookware. If custom built pouch isn’t your thing, then there are also commercial ones available. The Soto Windmaster is the best canister stove out there and there is no reason to avoid buying it because your nesting options are limited. Be resourceful.
OMGoodness. This stove folds smaller than ANY cannister stove that was available in old days. Its a miracle. I just ordered mine because foldability is apparently a non-issue for me. I am most concerned about getting a solid lightweight stove. Cannot wait to use it.
Hello there. Yep, when compared to old stoves the Soto Windmaster stove is certainly a pip squeak. But when compared to stoves today its a bit of an ogre. Thats not to say its not an amazing stove. To-date it is by far the best stove that I've ever used. I was merely identifying the one weakness that that the Soto Windmaster clearly has when compared to its contemporaries. Good news is, that despite its larger size, there are nesting options available. Meaning that we can now use the best stove known to man and get our "nesting everything together" fix. For me foldablity wasn't an "issue" rather a challenge to overcome. In the video I provided two very solid options for nesting the Soto Windmaster into a system. Not wanting to leave well enough alone, I continued to overcome this foldability "challenge" (not "issue") and proved yet another two very solid options in this video right here: ruclips.net/video/sDUln6SWgJo/видео.html Between the two videos that amounts to four very solid options for not only utilizing this stove but also nesting it into a system. Hopefully you can see the value in all that and realize that I wasn't complaining or had some "issue" with foldability, rather I was merely providing a valuable service to those that would love to use the stove but couldn't quite figure out how to make it work in a system. I decided to use a Toaks 750 ml pot putting the mini Bic lighter down first, then the Giga Power canister, the Windmaster, small sponge & biodegradable soap. I can still fit the lid on snug in its bright orange stuff sack! Works like a charm. The only thing I couldn't fit in was mine and my husband's Toaks Titanium long handled spoons. Can't go without those as we tried folding ones and they just didn't cut it. I detest eating off a plastic spoon and prefer the polished Titanium spoon for the backpacking gourmet experience. 😁

speaking of nesting...I think you have actually made the case for this stove. You need to draw the line somewhere, it's all a trade-off in the end if not solely a personal preference. Your perspective is selective to your needs which are not necessarily in the main. I appreciate your perspective and the information even though it's a bit over the top in my opinion.
I would rather have a solid reliable stove in winter conditions of which this Soto Windmaster is than a micro stove which is questionable in certain conditions.
A lot of people are making fun of this but its usefull info. I have been debating between this and the MSR Pocket Rocket 2. It seems like this is thr better performing stove overall but im still tempted by the PR2 for the small size.
I cut off the bottom of a Coleman squeeze tube so that the burner is up at what was the cap end. It adds more protection than the bag. I then just pack it separately it's not the perfect fix but at least it's unlikely to get damaged and the extra space in the pot will take packets of tea or coffee.

I was even considering moving up to the 1.3L Evernew so I can continue use the same setup as my normal Evernew kit, but still nest the canister in the cup and place the new stove to the side, but still in the main pot. I may still do that. My buddy Matt, from Lead Me Outdoors, has a 1.3L Evernew that I should check out and see if it all could work. If it doesn't get too terribly bulky, we may just have a winner. The small 3.9 oz fuel canister contains more than enough fuel for a week, using it 3 times a day. There is absolutely NO NEED to even carry the larger 8 oz fuel canister you seem married to.
Nice video and therfore I'm a new subscriber! Maybe I missed it from the video. Is that the Evernew 900 with an Evernew 400 ml cup inside? I'm sure it would fit sideways in a MSR Titan pot, but no way would the canister fit as well. I actually prefer to keep my canister in the side or front pocket of my pack - maybe just habit from when I use alcohol (or used to use white gas) stoves. I don't want any chance of fuel leaking inside the pack.

I have a collection of pots and stoves too - too many, but get obsessed from time to time with the perfect nesting cook kit. Other contenders in my cooking bin are the same Evernew 900, and a Snow Peak Mini-solo pots. I never tried the Snow Peak 600, but I have the Toaks Ultralight 650. Most of these are paired with alcohol stoves and windscreens, but we backpack a lot with the Boy Scouts lately, and they much prefer the canister setups. In addition to the new Windmaster, I have an old Snow Peak GigaPower, and a Kovea Spider. I'll figure out the best pot/stove combo and probably just keep two - one for me and one for my son. New to this but did you really say "I got everything nested nice", paraphrase of course, in a 900ml wide pot (which I own) and then take a shot at the stove because it wouldn't fit the way you want in a tall pot that is basically 2/3 of the size. Really?

Hello Joi, I love both stoves very very much but the reason that I take the Windmaster over the Litemax is that its very efficient AND the fact that the burner head is somewhat covered so I don't have to worry so much about finding a suitable location to start boiling water or start cooking. Many times I can just setup and and start the stove and I know the flame will be strong and efficient due to the design. But for what its worth, the Litemax really is a great stove and unless you want to try the Soto Windmaster you certainly wouldn't need to get a different stove as the Litemax is an amazing piece of kit. You would just have to find a suitable location to start cooking where you can be covered from things like wind. The Litemax in fact susceptible to wind. But despite that, I certainly have to plans on selling my Litemax.

Hey Tony. Yes. Any brand IsoPro canister will work with the Soto Windmaster. Maybe some Coleman brand IsoPro canisters may not. I remember hearing that for a while the Coleman ones were just a little off, but if you're buying MSR, Jetboil, SnowPeak, they work without issue.
Hans Kirk Hello Hans. This is a relatively new stove for me so I haven’t gotten a chance yet to use it in very cold temperatures. I would say that it should work like any other backpacking stove I’ve had. I’ve used my Snowpeak Litemax in weather as cold as 6F/-14C and had no problems. So I can’t imagine that the Soto Windmaster would lag in this area especially since it has a micro regulator which should control the amount of fuel being fed despite the coldness outside or the coldness of the fuel/canister. With that said the key to any stove working well in cold weather is keeping the canister warm. In the morning you can walk around with the canister in your pocket to warm it up, but the day that I used my Litemax in the 6F/-14C I left it out in the open where we had been cooking our food and I just went and turned on my stove without issue when I wanted to make my morning coffee. (We we’re at 9600’/2926m also). One last thing I would say is bring a Bic lighter. Never ever ever trust a piezo ignition, no matter how good the company is or how good they say their piezo igniter is. I’ve seen the piezo on one of these Soto stoves fail miserably. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. Have a great day my friend.
It certainly is a bummer that I dose not play nice with a lot of cook kit setups, but the performance is stellar. Hopefully it makes up for the lack of compactness. Happy adventuring!
First, this stove gets the highest ratings for practical utility, ie wind resistance, and adding another 4-8 oz. for a windscreen, "heat exchanger," etc. makes your kit far bulkier and heavier, and add the extra oz of fuel needed to compensate over several days of inefficient heating. Second, your tests conveniently left out your own favorite stove, and I doubt a canister will fit with it inside the tiny cup, unless it is so micro the pot supports are barely going to keep the pot from tipping in a random moment. 3 oz w/ more stable 4-pt wings is nothing - just wrap it in something, stuff other things to fill the cavities in pots, etc. and consider my 50 yr old Svea w/ cookset nested to about 6 x 9" and weighed maybe 1 1/2 lb. w/o fuel - another Sigg pint of white gas or Coleman fuel. Someone weighed the pack carried into the Sierras by Norman Clyde, "the pack that walked like a man," in the 1920's: around 90 lb. When he returned a couple weeks later, it had grown to about 110, from the random things he accumulated on the trip.

So I can’t imagine that the Soto Windmaster would lag in this area especially since it has a micro regulator which should control the amount of fuel being fed despite the coldness outside or the coldness of the fuel/canister. With that said the key to any stove working well in cold weather is keeping the canister warm. In the morning you can walk around with the canister in your pocket to warm it up, but the day that I used my Litemax in the 6F/-14C I left it out in the open where we had been cooking our food and I just went and turned on my stove without issue when I wanted to make my morning coffee. (We we’re at 9600’/2926m also). One last thing I would say is bring a Bic lighter. Never ever ever trust a piezo ignition, no matter how good the company is or how good they say their piezo igniter is. I’ve seen the piezo on one of these Soto stoves fail miserably. So gutted, I just bought this and it’s not gonna work with my cook set because of the size.
It certainly is a bummer that I dose not play nice with a lot of cook kit setups, but the performance is stellar. Hopefully it makes up for the lack of compactness. Happy adventuring!
Doesn't come with 2 pot stands
First, this stove gets the highest ratings for practical utility, ie wind resistance, and adding another 4-8 oz. for a windscreen, "heat exchanger," etc. makes your kit far bulkier and heavier, and add the extra oz of fuel needed to compensate over several days of inefficient heating. Second, your tests conveniently left out your own favorite stove, and I doubt a canister will fit with it inside the tiny cup, unless it is so micro the pot supports are barely going to keep the pot from tipping in a random moment. 3 oz w/ more stable 4-pt wings is nothing - just wrap it in something, stuff other things to fill the cavities in pots, etc. and consider my 50 yr old Svea w/ cookset nested to about 6 x 9" and weighed maybe 1 1/2 lb. w/o fuel - another Sigg pint of white gas or Coleman fuel. Someone weighed the pack carried into the Sierras by Norman Clyde, "the pack that walked like a man," in the 1920's: around 90 lb. When he returned a couple weeks later, it had grown to about 110, from the random things he accumulated on the trip.

Hey brother. The lowest I was able to find it for was $63 out the door on Massdrop. But with a 20% coupon (and the right retailer) you can get it as low as $67. If you can find someone selling a used one you should be able to pick one up at about $50ish dollars.
maybe the Soto thermostack cook set wasn't available at the time this video was made.
Hey Tim, Oh wow...I looked up the thermostack. Very nice! Like the old stanley tall cook pot but with a totally flat bottom. Excellent!
Very difficult to nest
Agreed. The Windmaster is a great stove but only nests in 2-4 pots nicely.
