In my opinion this is the most depressing album I've ever heard. That being said I love it. It's the 3rd album they're building families and losing people and realizing where they fit in the world. Huge impact on my life. De la is and always will be the greatest.
I wish I woulda heard this when it was released. But even still, I’m hearing this for first time ever and I’m smiling ear to ear. Quality music I tell you. Dove and the crew have left behind a great legacy.
I gotta be honest with you, I was in my 30’s when this 1st came out. I was already a DeLaSoul head. This. Blew. My. Fuckin’ Minnnd. Both their verses are RIDICULOUS. The BEAT?!? Yeahhhh TRUE HipHop KNEW how good this shit was…I’m so glad to read you appreciate it. It means a lot to me and my generation
I was a freshman in high school. Me and my crew visited Leolas CD & Tapes store every Tuesday & Saturday for the new releases.. 1993 & 1994 were two of the best years in hip-hop history. I think Souls of Mischief came out the next week, followed by Black Moon, Tribe - Midnight Marauders, Wu-Tang, Snoop, Del several weeks later.
I was stationed in Germany in 93 when this dropped. My daughter was borned in November of that year, her middle name was made off his daughter's name. I love DE LA Soul for lide.
The most underrated De La record of alltime, Pos verse is an alltime favorite glad its back up on youtube Interesting fact, Pos subtly disses Queen Latifah (along with Young Black Teenagers) in that verse
« Faker than a fist of kids Speakin that they're black When they're just niggas trying to be Greek Or some tongues who lied And said "We'll be natives to the end" Nowadays we don't even speak »
Beautiful track! I hope people finally come to realize just how PHENOMENAL this album is -- again, or for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A true masterpiece!!!!!
I am old and old school. This is one of the first CDs I had ever bought. I was in junior college and I was completely lost. This album spoke to me in soooo many ways. But especially this song. I keep this CD in my car and listen to it once a month. It does not have a lot of cursing so my two young daughters vibe to it a lot. They always say dad it does not rime and they are looking for hooks and choruses to catch on too. But now my four year old says, I am, I be I am, I be. De La Soul is not Dead. Their music lives on in my 4 and 7 year old daughters. It might blow up, but it won't go pop.....
I saw De La Soul outdoors at the Kennedy Center in D.C. They played this and I just cried uncontrollably. I had never done that at any kind of live performance before. A lot was going on in my life and I guess something about this song and performance just struck a chord. It was an amazing release. Buhloone Mind State has always been my favorite De La album.
I ball err time I hear Stakes Is High to the point I turn it off when it comes on... It affects my synesthesia emotionally due to the times and places that these songs were put into my memory. I bumped into Dave at a Goriliza show back stage.. He was taking a pic of his sign on the dressing room door.. I asked why? ( I've toured and barley took a single shot of my own. ) he graciously educated me on time and how it ain't a lot so take it all in... Saw them twice that year!!!!! Great times I'll nerrrr 4get!!!
Man…it was personal. When Pos put it out there that them and Quest weren’t on speaking terms or even if it was Jungle Brothers that line hit hard! “Or some tongues who lied…swore we’d be Natives til the end nowadays we don’t even speak! Damnit man!!!
It's funny how De La made Buhloone Mindstate as a middle finger to Tommy Boy Records but managed to make something so brilliant and ahead of it's time. I have a lot of favorite De La songs and this is definitely one of them
This is the one. It may be my favorite De La cut ever, especially as I grow older 🕊
Amazing. They are so good.
This track is just beyond words to me. It encapsulates a period in time I’ll cherish for the rest of my days. Thank you DLS for creating this.
i agree 100%
RIP Dave. A beautiful group of creators I only appreciate more as those days slip further into the past.
yeah man this is the one .. I am 72 I be 4 the Soul

@@1ron_Mik3 You're right, it's just amazing that it could outdepress an album called "De La Soul Is Dead"
I love this song SOOOO much. Masterpiece and, in my opinion, their best.

Is Pos really dissing queen Latifah?
you ain't Keith Murray
@@sam-mv7nm no, but my user name is 😅😅😅😅
Pos said it was Q Tip in a DJ Vlad De La interview.
Good news is that’s all behind them apparently.
@@77Creation I'm still mad at Tip for not publicly acknowledging Dave's passing
Yes, it’s Queen Latifah: “I guess we got our own Kingdom to rule.”
Stop sleeping theme song real hip hop 🤬
One of my all time favorites. Heartbroken to lose Plug 2 right before all this was finally made available.
