Great content! I saw this area appear a while back, when the strip mall (and record store) finally was torn down (along with the adjacent site of an old Texas Tom's drive-in restaurant). I had no idea that the limestone blocks were from a house that sat at that location... It makes me think that I should do a drive around some of the older houses in Shawnee (a/k/a Gum Springs) that are also made of limestone blocks. Thanks!!!
Hi Richard - When driving around, look at the foundations of the houses. Many houses have been rebuilt, remodeled, etc. In fact, if you’re driving on Johnson Drive, just a few hundred yards west of I-35, on the south side of the road, you’ll see a sign in front of the Campbell House. Merriam was originally named Campbellton, but the house is not the “original”. The original was destroyed by fire in 1890, but the house was rebuilt in the same format and everything by 1893. The only thing from the original (that was actually built in 1864 in Shawnee and then moved) is the foundation.
Thank you for sharing the interesting history of my new hometown!
Thank YOU for watching it and actually thinking that it’s interesting. It helps motivate me to continue making them!

Can we get a video for Shawnee Mission Park and Gary Haller trail?
Hey Andy, I sent you an email with a question about a local KCMO battlefield.
