Pioneer Cabin - City Park, Manhattan, KS - PART 1 OF 2 - PART 2 COMING SOON!!!
UPDATED VERSION COMING SOON!
This video is what this channel is all about. This is what I do.
I saw something. I wanted to know more about it. I checked it out, and I pass it on to you.
Normally, I would do a lot of research before making a video, but this situation didn’t allow for that. Here’s what happened…
My family, my parents, and I went to a Kansas State basketball game in Manhattan, Kansas. It was a great time, and after the game we drove around the city a little. We drove past the giant statue of Johnny Kaw in City Park, and I spotted the cabin. I wanted to know more and the group was nice enough to drive over by it. I couldn’t see a sign so I jumped out for “just a second”, and th...

Santa Fe Trail in Johnson County, Kansas

This video was made for a grade school in Gardner, Kansas, to show before they took a field trip to the Mahaffie Farmstead. Because of limited time, I chose to focus on just Johnson County, stopping at 4 different locations to talk about different, important aspects of the trail. While there are MANY places to show, I think that these are pretty enjoyable. I hope that you enjoy! Oh… and remembe...

The times, they are a changing… Two years ago, I made two videos about Robinson Park in Lawrence, Kansas. The first video came from pure intrigue. The true history is a little more dark. These were monuments created during the Christian nationalist movement of the 1920s to lure dumb, racist, white people into working at the meat packing plants. The millionaires who owned the meatpacking plants wanted to separate the city from the black population that was growing. They propagandized Mein Kampf style by promising white people the “privileges” they were groomed to feel entitled to. Then provided them with lovely brand new housing and these gorgeous monuments. It was to be a paradise for white people. The meat packing plant moguls got the segregated workforce they wanted. After these generational blue collar workers died out the neighborhoods were walled off by freeways and highways and the blue collar white folks moved onto the next city promising jobs to further the cycle.

    Thanks Andy, Roughly 10 years ago I became interested in learning about the indigenous peoples of this land we now call The United States of America. I knew that much of what I learned from our public school system while I was growing up wasn't completely accurate to say the least. I wanted to learn about historical events as much as I could from an indigenous perspective. In so doing one can't help but learn about certain cultural aspects and a different way of looking at the concept of respect. To our European immigrant ancestors that stone was just a really big, cool looking rock but to the Kansa people it is part of who they are. A new more appropriate monument can be constructed for our state's first governor as a replacement. The right and moral thing was done by returning the sacred grandfather stone to the Kansa people. Blessings, Until next time

There is a lot of good information about the Kaw nation on their website Kawnation.gov under the kanza history tab, you might find some of it interesting and surreal to read. They have a lot of history in Kansas and were actually moved several times and eventually kicked out of the state just before the state took its name from them. I’m a member of the tribe and live 5 miles from the last reservation they were moved to in Oklahoma and am learning more about my tribe everyday. Heck I just learned about the rock being moved a few months ago myself. It may not seem like much to some, but it’s history in the making. One of my ancestors rode with Quantrill’s Raiders. I’ve noticed my whole life that Lawrence and the Jayhawk supporters never discuss the reason for the raid. Quantrill Raider’s wives and children were put in a Union prison in a basement in downtown KC in order to bring Quantrill’s Raiders in. The building either caved in or as highly suspected caved in intentionally and killed the women and children. That is why they rode into Lawrence with a vengeance. Read the plaque in Lecompton. Kansas wanted to be a slave state and it went to Nebraska as I recall. Read ALL of the history. Not just one side.

    • @Akrights_Little_Known_History
      @Akrights_Little_Known_History Год назад

      @sookie4195 - Like I always say, one of the great things about the United States is our right to free speech. I appreciate you watching the video and taking the time to leave a throughout and respectful comment. Those are sometimes hard to find these days. You are correct. There are two sides to every coin. While there were many contributing factors that led to the raid on Lawrence, the prison collapse was definitely a significant factor. I wish that I had more time to make videos, but my schedule limits me. Regarding Nebraska being a slave state, Nebraska never actually made any legislation for or against slavery. Reading back into those times, the records tell us that the legislators in Nebraska did not feel that slavery was a large enough issue to need to make any legislation. In the 1860 federal census, Nebraska was recorded as having 15 slaves. So, while Nebraska was not for slavery, it was also not anti-slavery, in an official capacity. Regarding Lecompton, yes, the constitution that was voted on would make Kansas a slave state. This constitution did win the first vote by officials, but was viewed as a rigged election, infiltrated by non-Kansans. In response, a second vote was held for those living in Kansas and the Lecompton Constitution was rejected by the voters of Kansas by a margin of 10,226 to 138. The Lecompton Constitution would be the second of four constitutions to be submitted to Congress, before Kansas officially became a state. I encourage you to watch my video on Lecompton’s Constitution Hall. It features Tim Rues, the foremost expert on the Lecompton Constitution and the curator of the museum, going through the timeline. ruclips.net/video/Gu704lIrK3I/видео.html

      Hi Richard - When driving around, look at the foundations of the houses. Many houses have been rebuilt, remodeled, etc. In fact, if you’re driving on Johnson Drive, just a few hundred yards west of I-35, on the south side of the road, you’ll see a sign in front of the Campbell House. Merriam was originally named Campbellton, but the house is not the “original”. The original was destroyed by fire in 1890, but the house was rebuilt in the same format and everything by 1893. The only thing from the original (that was actually built in 1864 in Shawnee and then moved) is the foundation.
