The JS Bach version was daring for its time, but I think this is a better rendition of it. Paying tribute to the greats is a worthwhile endeavor I think.
This is pretty great. The best example of a proper cover of this music I've yet discovered. Wish it was in stereo. I bet you could get away with a better-than-240p upload nowadays, too.
This is great! I love this new take on a classic song. There is also another reinterpretation of a classical song out there, that unfortunately has not received a good reception because of when it came out. That song is Walter Murphy's: a 5th of Beethoven. Because it came out during the Disco era and was in the soundtrack of Saturday Night fever, it really has not been remembered fondly. Like this song version by Sky, "a 5th of Beethoven" should also get its flowers.
Guys, it's video game, not a funeral procession! You play well, really well! But it adds nothing to the memories or experience of playing the game :( I didn't even feel "JS" in the room... :0
The fact that they played it pretty much by definition adds to the memories and experience of playing the game, since the soundtrack of Gyruss was a cover of this performance.

@@NintendoComplete I've been explaining this to these Nintentards for the last fucking 20 odd years. They're all too busy shagging the controller port on an old NES to fucking listen.
@@fuzzywzhe I don’t think there’s definitive proof that the Gyruss (1983) team copied Sky’s Toccatta track from the 1980 Sky 2 album, but the similarities are very notable when Sky’s earlier version is played at 1.25x speed.
@@paul.9828 I prefer the Gyruss version myself, and I prefer Sky's version of Bach's. Had absolutely no idea who "Sky" was back in the day either. PRETTY certain the arcade version is based off from this version, BUT Bach isn't copyrighted, and I doubt Sky could copyright their take on it.
I heard that a guy called J.S. Bach made a really good rendition as a tribute to this wonderful video game.
brilliant someone who has been educated ,nice 1 man :)

It took me 3 years to get this joke @paul.9828 informed me that the music of Gyruss is based off from this rendition, no the other way around.
my favorite game of all time! and it gave me an appreciation of Bach I still love the game and music to this day however many warps it's epic man!
Best version I have ever heard
For gyruss I mean :)
Now power warping into Uranus
Wonderful❤
The video game superimposed over the band playing the music? Are you kidding me?? This is the coolest thing ever!
they used this song in the video game back in the day it was the best game back in the early 1980's :) i was there :)
To be fair, Gyruss was more of a tribute to Sky's rendition of the Toccata.
I think the video is the tribute, by overlaying the Gyruss play on top of the original Sky performance.
9 years later and here I am, congrats to this video.
My favourite game ever. And the soundtrack played a good part in it.
This is wonderful. It reminds me so very much of Roger Williams' "Theme from Rollerball." Thanks!
I wonder how much more awesome this would be if it also included the extra music from the NES version. Still 10/10 would listen again.

Pure.
Bliss.
my inner 8-Bit 80's and 90's revisited.

8-Bit.
well done
I never played the game but I love this music.
Dude your channel is very much under appreciated!
Gyruss is a game i played long ago loved it and and after 35 years i have it coming i cannot wait to play love it
Awesome!!!❤
Really impressive! It's not too loud, nor obnoxious. This is tastefully done, and true to the original. Well done. Very well done.
You're aware that Gyruss game out in 1983, perhaps check the date that this came out.
InvisibleYetVisible Gyruss was released in 1983, this album was released in 1980. So music in Gyruss is likely inspired by Skys album...
Well "the original" was Bach, right?
This is the most gloriously nerdy thing I have ever seen. I bet these guys leather jackets with the Gyruss graphics and a sweet van. #radioshack4eva
These guys recorded this in 1980, three years before Gyruss. So probably not the leather jackets with Gyruss graphics, but maybe the sweet van.
Beyond awesome
Tributo fantástico! E lembrando... eu amo esse jogo!
This is incredible, why haven't I come across it sooner?!
3 WARPS TO JUPITER
This is also the intro music in Tales from the Crypt: The Movie (1972)...a wonderful classic.
clap clap clap
Best Arcade game ! This made me want to add a coin and play NOW ! .. Warp me !
Me too👍😸

Konami game 😏
excellent video...loved it

Awesome!!!
@InvisibleYetVisible: It came out between 1703 and 1707...
It is "Toccata and Fugue" by Johann Sebastian Bach
This is too bad ass!!!!! Outstanding
Fantastic tribute!
It's not a Tribute, it's the Toccata version by Sky who inspired Konami 3 years later. So in the time-line we have Bach, Sky and Konami.
simplemente maravilloso!!!!
Thanks for the sweet memory ...
Excelent 🇧🇷
DIVINO TOTALMENTE DIVINO¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
excellent

This track was on their 1980 album "Sky 2", i.e. predating the videogame.

Hi. "JS"?! This video was not deleted for 5 years now. If the "Sky" music group or the Konami's have seen it, I hope they are not irritated with me!
holy shit people still comment on this

Awsome

I just realized, if you turn the speed up to 1.25 it sounds almost identical to the game version

Ok, but when was this filmed?? ☺️

The past! This was recorded in 1980!
Honestly, it didn't have the energy or pace of the original video game. Playing it at 1.25x - 1.5x speed, it's much closer to the arcade.
