Curious how familiar you are with Russian literature, because if so, or even mildly, I highly recommend everyone read, "On Resistance to Evil by Force" by Ivan Alexandrovich Ilyin, he takes apart Tolstoy's pacifism, it is truly brilliant work.

@RevReads The big thing with it is to keep in my the Orthodox Church, so when addressing things like being Biblical, or not being worldly they often express it as being "Spiritual", this is only issue these days because of the rise of New Age, but Russian and Orthodox writers are not talking in the New Age sense, just not being in the flesh. But Russian literature is going to be crucial, especially with the rise anti-christian sentiments in the West. But, "On Resistance to Evil by Force" was one book that is so brilliant that anyone who has read it, no matter how well read, found it life changing. You can listen to to it for free on RUclips, if you look it up.

Thank you for your insight. It's been a while since I read this book. I forgot many of the good points you mentioned. The main problem I had with the book is that he doesn't use as much Scripture references. (I suppose that's the "apologetic" approach.) Keep up the good work.

The title of the book fooled me as well. lol I was pleasantly surprised that it was much different than I thought it would be. A book by C.S. Lewis that is more about suffering is a book called “A Grief observed”. I still have a few of Lewis books left to read that I haven’t gotten around to yet.

I read A Grief Observed after my mother passed, found it helpful in that time. I should read it again.

@@thebibleincontext9569 sorry to hear about that. I read the book twice but the second time i read it shortly after someone close to me had passed. There is something to be said about one’s emotional state while reading a book. I was able to view from a whole new perspective when I could relate, I could feel the grief and emotion behind Lewis words much more heavily the second time around.
