      Hey Shaun. I think OWON with this one found a sweet spot. I think this might be a sales success... it is really good for a switching power supply and as a lot of features. I can't tell on the long run how it would behave, but for now, it looks promising. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, really appreciated! 👍

      Hey Markus! Thank you for your continous support! Really appreciated. I think I said already, but I think Owon is not a Rigol or Siglent, but is really the underdog here, they have nice products for the price you pay, very nice products I should say. But I saw comparations in some channels with Rigols or Siglents that cost 2 or 3 times more and offcourse if you pay more, you can get better parts... but well, what do I know... I just a enthusiast! Again, thanks for watching and nice comment! 👍

    For programmable power supplies, please test the programming part (not the manufacturer application, but actual SCPI support). KORAD for example has issues with that, their app uses some proprietary undocumented format, and the SCPI commands sent to the device can be randomly interrupted by transmissions from the device itself.

    It's important to note that the top model is also only 300w, therefore while it can provide 10A, it can only do so up to 30V. Being 300w maximum, it can only deliver up to 5A @ 60V, same as all the other cheap 60V power supplies out there.

    Nice review but you are VERY gentle towards OWON regarding the noise production. It would have been nice to have a sound sample without always available background music. I need a 60V5A psu for charging a battery bank controlled by a bms that gets the chance to balance the cells at low power input.
    72dB to me sounds like a fighter jet flying by in the room.
    Otherwise I would have pulled the plug immediately and orederen one of these...

      That being said, you can mod that yourself with a low noise fan... Or maybe even they can fix it with a firmware update (still would go with a low noise fan though). As for the ripple, that is something you can probably also fix with a few small mods (i.e. some resistors and some caps).

      I am RETURNING mine straight away... since I really wanted something that looked nice and modern on my bench I picked this one hoping at least on 1 to 4.5V 1A range it would be quiet.... but NO.
      It's like a Philips Silence series hair dryer at minimum... it can DRIVE YOU ABSOLUTELY INSANE when you're troubleshooting small devices, not only for the noise but also because it blows DEAD COLD AIR from the sides, my hands went numb in a minute with it on.
      And I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to program it since the manual was mistakenly saying you need to push the wheel... when in reality you had to push AND HOLD.
      I also bought a bench multimeter from Owon which I thought to keep but I am returning it as well. All it was required for the multimeter was to measure Ohm decently enough and voltage with two decimal precision. Guess what? It is WHINING like crazy... it seems like an "open air" function generator set at 15kHz.
      Absolutely APPALLED by the poor usability of Owon's tools.

    Very nice design. But fan makes too much noise. The temperature-dependent fan speed control is incorrect.

    • @TechCornerTV
      @TechCornerTV  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I loved this power supply, for a switch power supply is pretty good. There is some "issues" but nothing major to be honest. Regarding the fan, I have the Rigol DP832 as my main power supply and as soon you power it on, it makes a huge noise with the fan, way more than this small Owon. When you take the SPE to the max, the fan can get quite noisy, yes it is true, but it depends on the charge you apply to it, if you're working with 5V and 1A or less, is very acceptable. As I said, it is a good "package" full of features for more or less $120. Off course all I said here is my opinion and experience, yours might be tottally different, even the device you got might behave in a different way. I trully appreciate your comment and thanks for watching . 👍

    • @TechCornerTV
      @TechCornerTV  2 года назад

      Hi! Sure I will, considering all the switching fonts I saw up until now, this is by far the best. It is perfect, not at all, but it is a hell of a power supply for $100. I can't even say if that oscillation wasn't cause by me touching the cables or something else. I understand your concern, specially in mV projects, that can be serious, but for that kind of work you should use something better, again this is a programmable power supply (connectable to the PC) with LCD for $100, we have a lot, but can't have it all for this price range. But what you get is enough for me! Off course this is only my opinion, I'm not even a professional in electronics, so it worths what it worths.... anyway, thanks a lot for your comment and the time spend watching the video, really appreciated! 👍

      @@TechCornerTV Sorry but having ripple+noise+whatever that makes the signal oscillate so much, adding up to 500mV or 702mV+, can result in the destruction of some component under test/load. I wouldn't test any PC/PCB component with this unit.

I can't explain why but I will ask the marketing at Owon if they can connect me to a tech team that can explain why that happens, it will be nice if I can get the answer from them. Hi,
      I have seen this issue also in some other reviews of Chinese power supplys, like Topshak (I think) for example. Did you get any feedback from the manufacturer yet? I think it's quite important to know, if this "just" an offset error which can be corrected with a firmware update, or if it's just a bad general measuring precision. Especially for driving an LED in CC mode at just about 20 mA. Did you try to use the power supply in CC mode at such low current values an see if the control loop behaves normal an maybe test the current precision with a multimeter?
      Thanks in advance!

    Please! Leave out that music. very annoying!
    There is still something wrong with your voice recording. It sounds like you have some kind of compression, rather unpleasant.
    I find the high frequency noise level unacceptably high.
    Cheaper OWON models have more or less the same problem.
    It is not clear if it is differential or common mode noise.
    Therefore I strongly prefer linear power supplies on my benchtop.
    Furthermore 72dB acoustical noise is unacceptable!
    Still a useful review, even if we don't agree.

    • @TechCornerTV
      @TechCornerTV  2 года назад

      Hey Joop, I only have about 30 videos by this time, I experiment a little in some of them to see what works and what don't, I agree, the music in this one was a bit over the top. Regarding the noise, I have also a Rigol DP832 power supply (that I love) but from the moment I power it on, it starts making a huge fan noise... at least the Owon only speed up when the level reaches a certain point, it's loud but even so not so loud as some other devices I've seen. But for a switching power supply (no linear) I think is pretty good. Let's agree to disagree 😁 but I really give value to all comments and particulary yours, you always justify your opinion and give me useful feedback, thanks for that. Which power supplies do you use? 50 dB with no-load is absolutely unacceptable noise floor. You should have made your video without background music.
    I am returning mine for this reason and the fact that it unnecessarily blows dead cold air from the sides... making my work almost impossible in my 15°C place. The bench multimeter from this brand wasn't any better... it whined like crazy, beeps like a lion with no way of turning it down. All it was required to do was to measure some Ohm and some Voltage with two decimal precision.
    Not all Chinese maker are this bad... Uni-T makes wonderful multimeters, their bottom range function generator is equally awesome for the price... I don't know if it's just bad luck but I am appalled by Owon tools' usability.
