Oh my! Listening to your story was amazing. I send my condolences on your loss. I lost my husband on September 16 2017 after being together 17 yrs. And it's hard for sure. And God wouldn't give us anything he knew we couldn't handle or help someone else through. Thank you for sharing your story. ❤

Bless her heart. I have always liked Alan Jackson - not only his music but the deep values that stand out in him. Not every parent can pass these values along as well as he and his wife did. In spite of his fame he has stayed true to himself, values and deep faith in God and passed this down to his children. These values are impossible to miss in all three girls and parents. This is living the good life.

I worked in hospice, and I would (and still do) come right out & tell families 'It's going to suck. It just is.' It's going to go in waves... There's going to be a lot going on right now with making arrangements, the service itself, getting the appreciation cards out after & making sure all those casserole dishes get returned to the right people... You may or may not feel the full enormity of it right away because it is a lot to take in, but at some point, you're going to need time to absorb & process it all. Those 'firsts' are going to be the worst... First anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, and just going to an event, ANY event as a single instead of a couple for the first time, 'the firsts'. Grief is a process, there is no rule book or timeline, you find a way to get through it that works for you.
Probably not related, but, I remember watching a documentary on the Kennedys & they were telling how after they lost JFK, Robert actually ALLOWED HIMSELF to feel that loss as deeply as possible & for as long as he needed to, and when he came out of it, he was far more sympathetic & empathetic than he had been before, something about allowing himself to REALLY feel the grief, rather than 'powering through', actually made him a better man.
One last thing & feel free to share this... It's natural to 'blame God' when bad things happen, 'why did you let this happen?' But over the years, I've come to the realization & conclusion that bad things are going to happen. They just are. However while God doesn't 'cause them', he does walk with you & helps you get through them.
