Vanilla Milk They were born together, grew together, learned together the same things at the same time. Having a twin is a totally different thing because it’s like having a person that understands you, that has been there since you were born. So the bond does tend to get strong. And Travis probably felt that it was unfair for him to pass and not have his brother be with him.
Tyler's mom dancing is the highlight of the show.

It's not about that, everyone gets that twins have a special bond. The issue is commitment and showing that you want it out of pure respect for the other contestants.
Alyssa Edwards says it best "Winning isn't everything, but wanting to is".
That is the point.
They knew from the start that they weren't competing as a team. They knew they'd be competing against eachother for 1 top spot. They auditioned separately.
Therefor saying you'll drop out shows a lack of commitment. It makes it seem like the only thing that mattered was to get on TV for a little while, not actually the opportunities that the competition got you should you win.
And I think the mom here is some of the biggest reason as to why they reacted so harshly. His mom nods and is perfectly fine with him dropping out of a huge opportunity, rather than encouraging him to fight on and finish the race. It almost seems like she thinks it's convenient logistically.
Were the judges harsh? Sure.
But the lesson they are trying to teach is to stick with something and stay in the race if you truly want it. It's about not giving up when it's convenient.
Let's not forget that this would also be how anyone at a regular casting call would react. If anyone dropped out like that, a casting director would most likely find it rude and would label you as someone who didn't actually care all that much.
