This was really great, but it's criminal to not have included For Once In My Life. Not only is it a great bass line, but for me personally, is one of the most difficult to mimic. So good.
Anything James plays bass on is very difficult to mimic... any repeated runs are modified each time. He was the best.

That entire album was a Jamerson masterpiece. Probably his best full album.
Songs in the key of Life is one of the best albums of all time. 'As' is an amazing song.
As is not just amazing it's one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion.

My very first thought as I loaded the vid. Agreed!
"I was made to love her" was in my opinion his best bassline.
When I saw the title, I was thinking “looking forward to hearing ‘I Was Made To Love Her’”, but a little shocked that my favourite Stevie Wonder bass performance not even there. Wow.
That was the first baseline that made me sit up & appreciate the instrument‼️

Mesmerizing bass lines. It is tough to put 10 bass lines of Stevie's classics together. There some other gems like "All I do", "Master Blaster," " Higher ground," " living for the city," "Part-time lover," " I was made to lover" and "In your corner."
Good list, but it misses "I Was Made to Love Her" and "For Once in My Life".

I think your use of pedals is incredible. You have such a great sound and your timing is so tight and funky. You really know this stuff. Thanks for doing this.
When I first started playing bass, i considered learning the bass line to sir duke like learning stairway to heaven(6 string guitar being my first instrument). When I finally started digging into his tubes, I fell in love with playing bass.

all songs that would've nicely fit in with this list, but I'm happy to have been exposed to some new Stevie Wonder lines that I hadn't heard before!
Great breakdown of some beautiful basslines and the effects that help achieve the tones! I will be going over this probably 100 more times to snag this stuff!
I have most of Master Blaster, and all of the Sir Duke unison down, but I'm in the middle of The Fretboard Accelerator, (and now The Fretboard Challenge); so I'm going to have to put this one "on the back burner" -- and come back to it when I have more time... Learning all 10 of these basslines would be like taking a master class in Funk!

I worked at the pro audio company Solid State Logic (SSL) in the late '80s. They had a copy of the 24 track multi-track to the Stevie Wonder songs "Do I Do" and "That Girl" in their demo studio there. I'm a bass player, so I spent quite a few hours after work sitting by myself in that studio listening to the "Do I Do" bass and drum tracks mixed very prominently trying to work out the parts. Happy times.

I don't even play the bass (I am a drummer) but I love the bass. Having Stevie's songs highlighted...such a great video!!
Same here. Can't play guitar either, but I do like playing those solos on my also when it's possible.
As one of my drummer friends told me ( I'm a bassist) "we have the same heart" .... the drums and bass are best friends
You should start. The background in drums definitely helps with rhythm. And it’s also really nice to be able to play a melody like one can do on a bass

Scott I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for this wonderful and most excellent tutorial on some of the most difficult songs ever created for the pop culture. You have so much soul and BackBeat groove. It's refreshing watching you illustrate how the songs are really supposed to be played. I do the best I can by ear. I generally don't refer to tablature. But there are some tricky things about Stevie wonder's songs. My mission is that I have to learn how to sing and play on the base at the same time lead vocals to Sir Duke, and I wish. These are my homework assignments.

My favorite ever since I was a little kid (1975, 76) the groove of Superstition has been one of my faves! The organ (souding like a harpsichord), horns, bass...all of it.
