They say single-coil pickups let the player's "personality" come through. Humbuckers do distortion better (thicker and more sustain) and are quiet. Players should own both types. ("Sultans of Swing" needs that Strat, single-coil sound and "Money For Nothing" needs a Les Paul, humbucker sound.)
