Why is/are there no movable/retractable blade(s) in the bows of these boats that are so frequently capsize? Most of capsizing happens when the bow submerges and high angle at high speed. A properly created, placed and oriented blade that would be elevated from the bow at such moments could/would generate uplift force that could/would prevent capsizing. I presume such blade(s) could be built in the box watertight not endangering the movement, speed of boat when the bow the bow submerges but does not generate the risk capsizing. Wow, about 3 hrs. ago I finished reading Robert Knox-Johnson's book, "A World of My Own", what a coincidence!!! I turn on my computer and this video is on suggested list. Could that be an omen?
@@timh1187 the book was a good read, I knew the general story, but never read a first person account. Author and publisher did a good job mixing the narration with actual daily log accounts.

Volvo Ocean, hmmm, if you're watching, the reason I stopped watching halfway thru the race is that for all the media opportunities you had with a dedicated crew man, electronics and satellite doo-hickies, the weekly show coverage kind of sucked, what's a boy to do? It should have been loaded with on boat coverage AND every boat could of had a drone, the aerial footage is amazing. I guess the budget was busted on the satellite domes? And don't get me started on all the Euro stops, that's udderly ridiculous for an ocean series. It could have been great.
I salute all those who attempted this journey.
Money, money, money ! A show for the big boats and big sponsors. Strange sailing world indeed ;)
A great report on the GGR. Best I have seen anywhere. cant wait for Part 2.
thank you
Great upload thanks, wow all those boats are truly amazing.

Incredible... What a race!
Amazing job
Well Done Much better editing! They used to jump from shot to shot every 1/2 sec. this was much better.
I love the sailing show theme music
Thanks for posting.

The Prada Cup should do a stop in Monaco.
did van den heede not use an autopilot system? I didn't see one at all
He used a wind vane self steering autopilot. Strong and doesn't use electricity, made by a company called Hydravane. Brilliant bit of kit!
