Not a patch on Ian Paice - The Mule - on the Made In Japan album. Just saying. Animal didn't sweat enough to rate best, although it's impossible to tell with all that fur.
It seems to be a poodle with great humour! We all need these "simple" showdowns, they remember us that our lives are series of showdowns and updowns...
So sad to hear of the passing of a legendary performer of our time. I remember he and Jim Henson were great friends. He performed at his funeral. Together again now.
How I would've loved to hear Animal have a drum battle with John Bonham. John hardly ever appeared on live TV shows, but it would've been something to hear! Or Neil Peart, bless 'im!
If Millennials never watch CLASSIC 20th Century TV like THIS, they'll never know how horribly stupid and ignorant the garbage their being fed now is. But THAT will never happen -- they have 60 second attention spans.
Yep, and that was by design. Henson's agent was in charge of making sure that they did enjoy themselves since they were required to travel to England and all that.
Well dude goes on 50 shows in a row to sing the Banana boat song and talk about civil rights and he gets here and they are like, would you like to have a drum battle with a puppet? Who wouldn't love that change of pace.
Only one I can remember who hated being there was John Cleese, but that was just part of the act (Cleese even came up with that with the Muppet writers).
My heart is so sad to hear of his passing just a few hours ago. Thank you for all the beauty in your music and art. Rest In Paradise Harry Belafonte 😢❤ I loved this little segment with Animal
A lot of celebrities viewed it as a matter of pride to be invited to perform on the Muppet Show. Many still do when it comes to appearing on Sesame Street.
You can thank Rudolf Nureyev, the world famous ballet dancer, for a lot of those big name guests. Until his appearance on The Muppet Show, the producers most often relied on personal contacts to book celebrities for the show. But after Nureyev, it became that show which celebrities wanted to appear on.
@ANIMAL!!! ANIMAL KILL DRUMMERS CAREER every time they come on the stage with Animal to drum battle with him, but I think animal was playing with Harry belafonte and not against him and having fun with each other on stage.
J Banks .it never was for kids.Adults only, but i will show it to my grand daughter in time, she will inspire a new generation of toung one's.....hopefully..🤪
J Banks I agree the new generation listens to trashy with no meaning music and all the children shows are full of violence! The new generation will never know the era we lived! No love letters, no carrying the books from school, no innocence!
That whole show with Harry Belafonte is one of my all-time favourites! It was the television premiere of his Banana Boat Song (Day-O), and he just fit in with the craziness of the Muppets! I just might go watch it again at home! Animal has always been my fave.
I saw a documentary on the Muppets. This episode was the highest rated one ever. They said that Belafonte was one of the few guests that could naturally interact with puppets. It's probably harder than it looks to just switch off the fact that it's got someone operating it but Belafonte could do it.
Harry Belafonte vs. Ronald Thomas Verrell aka Ronnie Verrell (1926-2002), a British backing, session & studio drummer, who did all the actual drumming work for Animal
Probably one of the first times I saw Mr. Harry Belafaonte. After that my parents introduced me to more of his music. However, it took over 20 years until I finally saw him performing life in Germany. Now, another 20 years later I enjoy his music with my daughter. His music has been enjoyed by my family for 4!!! generations. Thank you Mr. Belafonte, I will aways remember you with a smile on my face.
*laughs!* Great job Animal. It's hilarious though, he makes a Miss Piggy head-flick halfway thorugh...remember Frank Oz performed both Animal and Miss Piggy. I love when he accidently mixes characters little actions that way.
Le Muppets Show était super, même 25 ans (où je ne sais combien) après, ça me fait toujours rire ! Sans parler du plaisir de revoir Harry Belafonte qui se prête superbement au jeu !
My son used to sit in front of the TV and copy this, beat for beat....when he was just 2! It was incredible to watch....(we have it recorded on VHS somewhere....someday it may be found...) I DID however save the recording of him whistling on command at 10 months.... now 15, and yes, musically gifted , thanks partially to the Muppets!
Philip Berthiaume OOOOOOOH MAAAAAAN!!! Yes, thank you for that trip down memory lane... it WAS awesome because no one had a VCR!!! *deep satisfying sigh*
Cotter, not Carter, and me too, there was also a weird guy in a phone box running around at this time, the one and only, to whom all others were compared and found wanting!!
You can tell Harry try the whole entire time to keep his laughter in I'm so glad he was able to finally laugh animal is one of my favorite Muppets of all time
What I really love is that the part Animal plays after he's "blown away" by Belafonte is actually much harder than the part that Harry had just played!
😃 Shades of the drum solo on "In a Gadda da Vida" by Iron Butterfly! 😄 m.ruclips.net/video/UIVe-rZBcm4/видео.html Whew, that was fun, talk about a blast from the past! 😆

Funny you should say that, because Animal's drumming was done by Ronnie Verrell, widely acknowledged as the greatest drummer in the UK and listed in Rolling Stone mag as one of the best in the world.
Animal is still the best drummer of the world!
😂
Not a patch on Ian Paice - The Mule - on the Made In Japan album. Just saying. Animal didn't sweat enough to rate best, although it's impossible to tell with all that fur.
No argument from my armchair in the UK, Animal rocked my world.
No. Buddy Rich! Buddy Rich!
No doubt about that 🙂
I'm just smiling, remembering how much joy and fun there was in simplistic "showdowns" like these. Even my poodle watched 'The Muppets"!
It seems to be a poodle with great humour! We all need these "simple" showdowns, they remember us that our lives are series of showdowns and updowns...
What a funy poodle
So sad to hear of the passing of a legendary performer of our time. I remember he and Jim Henson were great friends. He performed at his funeral. Together again now.
Ah Ha! So this is where Phil Collins and Chester Thompson got their idea for the drum duet during Genesis shows in the 80's/90's!!!!!
How I would've loved to hear Animal have a drum battle with John Bonham. John hardly ever appeared on live TV shows, but it would've been something to hear! Or Neil Peart, bless 'im!
Yes to both
A celebrity knew they achieved next level status when they could make a guest appearance in the Muppet Show
Animal is pure "Id." 💞
Animal is great!! I just love him! And Harry Belafonte is there too; that show that he has got humour :D
Another great Muppets character - the original Animal Mother 😄👏
The video clip I didn't think I needed 😆 RIP Harry Belafonte
Each moving to the beat of a different drum.
No drummer comes close to Animal. Not even Keith "The Loon" Moon. He is in a class of his own.
Harry Belafonte’s Coconut Drum Looks Like a Taiko Drum From Japan!
I Know
Harry Belafonte vs Agro
Nah, Agro wouldn't have wasted time having a drum battle, he would have just told him straight out to f*** off
Adorei!!! Muito divertido e engracado.
Excellent
Very good!
But it would have been better with steel drums.
I like when Animal vs. Buddy Rich. :D
I never knew the dude who sang stuff on the Beetlejuice soundtrack did drumming.
Animal definetly having a ball with Harry. :)
i love this is great

Lo mejor que hoy he visto
What I love about the Muppet Show segments is that the guests always seem to be having the very best time ever! This was brilliant😄
You are right - when the guests enjoy themselves, that makes it even better for the audience! It’s a cool vid

Yeah because they should be pissed off that they are playing with stuffed puppets on a kids show.
My heart is so sad to hear of his passing just a few hours ago. Thank you for all the beauty in your music and art. Rest In Paradise Harry Belafonte 😢❤
I loved this little segment with Animal
Rest in peace, Mr Belafonte, thanks a lot for all
It made me smile and laugh at how much fun they looked like they were having. RIP Mr. Belafonte

It's a crime against humanity that Animal never made Rolling Stone's top best drummers list.
He would have done Neil Pert and Billy Cobham proud!!!
He might have got to the top 5
But the drummer that was the inspiration for Animal did, Keith Moon.
A crime against puppetry, surely.
One drum short of being the next Neal Pert.
We were the luckiest kids in history, to grow up with television like this.

Rita Moreno did... And won.
I love animal, he is so rambunctious.
Everybody loves him! Sometimes reminds me a little bit my beloved Keith Moon.
Me, too!!
Especially when his eyes flash open and shut and he hollers "AHHHHH!"
@ANIMAL!!! Yup, that's the one!!

Rambunctious is such a fantastic WORD😁
