Got rid of my BMW 520D with the N47 engine mainly due to ULEZ but also the dreaded fear of this happening with that particular engine! Although I suspect it was more common with “Stop/Start” models!

I had my chain kit replaced on my 1 series N47 118d at 80k mileage. Mechanic said it was close on snapping was a very expensive job but glad it's done. Best to change engine oil every 7 months as engine oil is cheaper than chain replacement.

When i bought my 318d had the timing chain replaced (at 290k kms) checked the service book and it was also replaced back in germany at 150k kms seems to be a big trouble for these n47s
Just gotta sell it before 450k kms 😂😅

@@aaanton11 I have the same engine in my e82 it’s on 84000 miles hopefully my chain can last as long as yours 😅 always watch your vids especially your bmw ones
