The MV is utilizing all sorts of light and light effects; sunlight, cold daylight, black light, candle light, spot light, laser, mirror reflection… it was the thing that had truly stimulated me the first time I had seen the MV.
And the album is called LIGHTS btw.
As the rhythm accelerates toward the end, the light effects get more volatile and invasive. It is so effectively and beautifully calculated. Too good.
I love that he shows how free he is in terms of creativity and range. This song shows he can do it all

This is truly a masterpiece!!! This song is like Joohoney himself as a person, where vulnerability, anger and strength coexist. All that's felt in the midst of that tension is his freedom. As a Monbebe I'm just so proud of him.
JOOHEON IS ART
Jooheon is an ultimate ace thats for sure.
What I really love about this piece of work is that Joohoney effectively incorporates a black cultural artifact in the choreography.
Krumping is such a vibe for this song! Black men originated thjs style to express their anger towards the world which cages them into a violent reality. To assert their agency, they use exaggerated movements to communicate with each other & others which then creates a sense of belonging in their community and outside of it; in addition, there is a sense of freedom that comes with this that results from being able to comfortably express yourself without any restraints; its such a humanizing experience.
He encapsulates this in the music video soooo well. Like, yes he had creative freedom when producing music but he is letting it be known that he won’t be held by certain limitations placed upon him by anyone who cannot share his vision. FREEDOM is definitely a favorite of mine.

This really does feel like his story. I always felt the opening ballad-y part was almost like a dream sequence (prior to him being released or breaking free from the cage he's in) and then continuously finding his freedom. Soooooo cool!
Monsta X are something else man. How can one group have Jooheon and I.M the most complimentary and stable rappers perhaps in the industry (plus songwriters), Kihyun - the intense and punchy chorus killer vocalist, Shownu the leader of all leaders, Minhyuk - Variety genius, and Hyungwon - visual, DJ, composer and "meme guy". Every single thing they've done this year has been 10/10 for me. REASON, LIGHTS, OVERDRIVE, THE UNSEEN, honestly, it boggles my mind how good they are.

the first time i listened to Freedom i was so silent 😭 i was just so amazed by it you can really tell Jooheony poured his everything into this album 🔥
OMG YEESSS THE DANCERS YOU POINTED WEARING WHITES ARE PRIME KINGZ. they're the most famous krump dancer in korea, the leader, Trix won the krump world competition and he got his stage name Trix from krump dance genre founder. the other krump guy you said handsome is my hubby (lol jk i wish) his name is Knucks. Prime Kingz participated in Mnet's dance crew competition show Street Men Fighter last year, it's a ton of fun and exquisite dance battles.
Joohoney is One of a Kind. He is a true artist, a true performer. A type of person who will put not only his talent to his work, but will pour his heart and soul as well. He always connects to his viewers and listener. He was born to be who and what he is today.

Apparently all this was a very emotional experience (and job) for the dancers.
They kept on saying how they favored JOOHEON above all the other idols as he was always the kindest & most generous toward them. Apparently he wrote hand-written notes for every single one, personalized for each individual which really moved them. There are bts videos of them venerating and complimenting him. I am a massive fan, and I could see he was on the verge of tears as they contended.
There was also a rumor among the fandom that one of the dancers toward the back was SHOWNU, but that has proven to be false.
Welcome back. I love this breakdown of Freedom. I have enjoyed a lot of music this year, like artists are putting it all out. In the midst of all that, Freedom is truly something special in my opinion. I actually did cry more than once watching this. It is a beautiful piece of art, and it is so full of Joohoney, I am just so proud of him. This man is an incredible artist. I have to agree with you that what Joohoney gave us is something outside of Kpop with this solo debut. I can hardly wait to see what he creates next.

He has a Lee Mujin service ep! This is incredible! The drums at the end remind me of older tvxq music like Keep Your Head Down and Maximum. Not that the whole songs are even remotely similar but the drums just remind me of those songs for whatever reason lol. His whole album was amazing! He's just pure talent. This is my favorite song in 2023 according to Spotify Wrapped and of course my personal feeling.
Words about him waiting to unleash himself in the debut are true. He did tell many times during promotion that it's his first album after 8 years, he did wait long.
I love the meaning of the last scene. Being the light in the midst of the dark. It's a powerful idea. You don't wait to be saved, you become the light yourself. At least this is how I see it.

Honestly, when I first saw this it hit me just like jimins set me free. I never expected tbdt from jimin it blew my mind. Jooheon I was thrown at the beginning and then the dark rapping. He is just absolutely incredible. His vocal, rap, intensity, charm, swag, dance and style he really is unique.
