Right! This version has so much emotion. He sang it different times but this version is Wow! I love how his band members look at him after the piano segment ...priceless....everyone felt the energy through the vibrations he expressed.
This song is a reminder of one of my life long friend. She would lose her way time and time again, and I would go and try to find her to bring her back to us. Addiction is a terrible thing and may I remind people please don't judge, because you don't know how they got to that place in life! Bless her dear soul!
When you listen here, you hear Darius improvising left and right... that means this song is STILL near and dear to his heart for some reason.......................
Look it up, real life he was the drug addict, indifferent to her, but it made more sense as a song for him to sing it from the other side. It means so much to him because he was that guy, he had a loving, patient woman and he dismissed her time and time again. I won't forget or forgive myself for being that guy.
He says this is my first country song I've ever wrote right from the start. Thus is country not pop. U guys just ant never heard country music this good before.

I loved this song from Hootie and the Blowfish. But as he as aged Darius's voice has more gravel and character and now I am blown away by him singing it.
He's so underrated as a vocalist, he is up there with the likes of Chris Cornell. He can sing pretty much whatever he wants, any genre, his range is amazing.
Not sure I agree completely with the underrated part, but I agree with all the rest. It’s fascinating to me just how many styles of music he can sing well!
His talent is unsurpassed. He is wonderful. Not many people wouldn’t be able to find one of his songs that they could claim to be an all time favourite across the board.
My favorite singer of all time, Hootie and the blowfish was such a good band, Let her cry is my favorite song ever. It has so much depth and meaning and when paired with Darius Ruckers voice, it is perfect
I love the song because I've never cried over any guy. I was always the one that broke the guy's heart. I think? I love the song because I love learning about what happens. when One love goes south. Great song. Darius, thanks for sharintg❤

In 2012 I took 33 heart pills and was forced by a doctor that tar stuff witch I threw up for weeks, my high school sweetheart for most of my life left me for someone. Cracked Rear View remains my favorite album ever! I've been a fan since the release. I'm not necessarily a country fan but Darius Rucker pulled it off. Beautiful voice!💗
Growing up i dated a girl, and then lost that girl. I got her back over 30 years later and lost her again... I used to think Mr Rucker wrote this song looking through my eyes, sang it wearing my soul, and lived it using my heart.
Rucker, a pure voice. Effortless, with timber, vibrato, and passion. Timber doesn't just mean trees. He also is great with lyrics. I believe his best hit song. Great verses. Great chorus. Great main line: "Let Her Cry" and a great line, "If the sun comes up tomorrow." I actually have no memories of this song. I only found it recently.
A story I will tell til the day I die; Darius came out to Fort Bragg for a MWR concert. Free, no door charge, outdoors. Started pouring and shit down before he comes on stage. Two hours or so later, they reopen the field. Shortly after Darius came out and played his full set. It was amazing he stuck around at all!
I quit listening to country music back in ninety-six cuz all the country singers are going this is the best country voice I've heard in years God bless you brother and live long I love you anyways with Hootie and the Blowfish😅
Darius, I sing this song every day, because it’s what I had to do to my husband and he was a navy chief petty officer. It was so hard to do with three children. Thank you for helping me through it. Even though it still hurts and our children are grown. Thank you.❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰

The feeling he put into the last verse and chorus in this version is amazing, and the different lyric: "I walked out on her..." breaks my heart. I relate. 🖤
I like to think the entire last verse and chorus is a conversation between his mother and him. Kinda like Last night I tried to leave. She cried so much I could not believe. She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago. She went in the back to get high. I sat down on my couch, and I started to cry for my momma. I said, "Momma please, won't you come and take me out o' here?" She said, "Boy, let her cry. Her tears fall down like rain. Let her sing." She can sing. She can sing. "And it eases all her pain. You gotta let her go." I walked out on her you see. "And if the sun comes up tomorrow let her be."
Hey there! I thought I would share this in case you didn’t know. That lyric change, which I think he throws in during live performances every so often, is actually showing that he was really the girl in the song, and the girl was actually him. he shared that background during an interview.
THIS MAN CAN SING… STILL, IN DECEMBER 2023!!!!

[Verse 1]
She sits alone by a lamp post
Trying to find a thought that's escaped her mind
She says Dad's the one I love the most
Michael Stipe's not far behind
[Verse 2]
She never lets me in
Only tells me where's she's been
When she's had too much to drink
I say that I don't care
I just run my hands through her dark hair
And I pray to God, help me fly away
He said
[Chorus]
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, it eases all her pain
Let her go, walk right out on me now
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, let her be
[Verse 3]
This morning I woke up alone
Found a note standin' by the phone
That said maybe, D just maybe, I'll be back some day
Like a fool, I wanted to look for you
You walked in, I didn't know just what I should do
So I sat back down with a case of Bud and a bottle of Jim Beam and I felt sorry for me
And said
[Chorus]
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, walk right out on me now
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, let her be now, let her be
[Solo]
[Verse 4]
Last night I tried to leave
She cried so much I can not believe
She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago
Hmmmm
She went in the back to get high
I sat down on my couch and started to cry for my Momma
I said, Mamma please won’t you come and take me outta here
She said, boy
[Chorus]
Let her cry, her tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, she can sing, she can sing, and it eases all her pain
You gotta let her go
I walked out on her you see
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, yeah
[Chorus]
Let her cry, yes her tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, no, no
I walked out on her, I left her you see
And if sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, no, no, no, no, no, oh
Let her be

The feeling he put into the last verse and chorus in this version is amazing, and the different lyric: "I walked out on her..." breaks my heart. I relate. 🖤
I like to think the entire last verse and chorus is a conversation between his mother and him. Kinda like
Last night I tried to leave. She cried so much I could not believe. She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago. She went in the back to get high. I sat down on my couch, and I started to cry for my momma. I said, "Momma please, won't you come and take me out o' here?"
She said, "Boy, let her cry. Her tears fall down like rain. Let her sing."
She can sing. She can sing.
"And it eases all her pain. You gotta let her go."
I walked out on her you see.
"And if the sun comes up tomorrow let her be."

@@User16259 yes! He is just so talented!
Hey there! I thought I would share this in case you didn’t know. That lyric change, which I think he throws in during live performances every so often, is actually showing that he was really the girl in the song, and the girl was actually him. he shared that background during an interview.
