@@Kamedouken I think some things were inspired by Tekken that Street Fighter 6 were taking notes of, and vice versa like Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, Dead Or Alive, ect. But yeah, it'd be great if fighting games could add more inspired things from other fighting games, to see if it works or not for that genre. I agree.
the finishing move reminds me of those taekwodo performances. the ones with no fights but just breaking planks in the most spectacular way possible. I think that's a good inspiration.
Honestly, it reminded me a lot of the fight between Rock Lee and Gaara in Naruto Chuunin Exams :P Rock Lee kicks Gaara high up and then does the Lotus spin. Also, the downward headkick from Lee is the first attack to ever touch Gaara, and it looks kinda similar to the one used here.
Hwoarang is cool because everything about his design matched with his personality. It’s not just his biker theme outfit that displays his delinquent side, it’s also his taekwondo dobok. He has an interesting personality, Hwoarang lives for the thrill and doesn’t let any rules stop him from doing what he thinks is fun. Despite what his rough personality would suggest, Hwoarang has an honorable side. He respects his master Baek and prefers to have a fair fight with his opponents. He rejects any form of supernatural power so he can rely on his own fighting skills. While Hwoarang is a jerk most of the time, he’s actually a fairly decent guy when you get to know him. His rivalry with Jin is interesting due to how it developed throughout the series. It evolved from a bitter rivalry to a friendly one. Jin and Hwoarang are now basically just the friends who prefer to beat each other up rather than hug. No matter how much they fight, they have each other’s back. It’s a typical example of vitriolic best buds. Hwoarang was even willing to sacrifice his eye for Jin in T7 even if it was just an temporary injury and he didn't lost the eye for real, it shows how Hwoarang was more moral than Jin at that particular point. Lastly but not least, I consider Hwoarang to be one of Tekken's strongest designs. I personally think that he’s the best representation of TKD in a fighting game. Hwoarang is awesome and I can’t imagine the franchise without him. 🤷🏻♂️☯️👌✌️
There's so much to unpack in this one: The appearance, the grunts, the fact that they ditched his pro bodybuilder physique, the old T5 Jin intro animation, the moves... Hwoarang is looking crazy!
@@hilihkintil6789 totally agree, they overdose on Law's physique, I'm a Law main actually, they should've stuck to TK5 law Body Design and put a little detail to it.

Don't beat yourself up too much. Its natural that we age in the real world whilst familiar characters in various series age more gracefully (granted they haven't aged the T3 characters too much and its more a case of a style change).
I have been studying martial arts on and off the last decade. I just started doing Taekwondo and I love it. I'm definitely gonna play Hwoarang in Tekken 8. IRL Martial Artists Rise Up!
Definitely what the game needs. Characters that look like they are ready to start throwing hands Instead of wearing whatever they found on their closed.
@@lombardi4 I'd say variety is key Besides they will all have crazy wack outfits later on, so I don't mind some being tame and others being wild with their closets
The student finally becomes the *Master* , the prodigy of Taekwondo finally makes his electrifying debut on the TK8 roster and with remarkable swagger. The maturity of how they greeted each other filled my heart with so much joy: *Jin* acknowledging *Hwoarang* for the first time and respectfully challenging *Jin* to a fight so he can prove his strength to him, 0:57. That for me was one of the biggest highlights of the video and his marvelously detailed character design, he kind of reminds me of a webtoon *Manwha* protagonist. Congratulations to the studio who endured sleepless nights to make this impeccable video. Can't wait for the release of the game. 👏, 🙏.
Namco has a big problem. When redesigning characters, they do not always retain the recognizability of the character. T8 Hwaorang is only recognizable by his moveset. The character could have been named completely differently, given a different biography with a new moveset and no one would have thought it was Hwoarang. In the Streat Fighter the authors keep the key features of the classic character's design and emphasize them, while the Namco destroys its legacy.
I may now be an Asuka main, but Hwoarang was my first one. Liked his character and look (so glad they did not kept his T7 look 😅) from the very beginning. In such a long running series, you never forget your first main.
I was one of those kids that grew up with parents that put you in tae kwon doe to learn how to defend yourself. never became much of a talent with it myself, but seeing the style come through in Tekken with Baek and Hwaorang is awesome and also somehow nostalgic.
I played Tekken 3 as a teen and mained Hwo, which led me to take Tae kwon do lessons. I'm planning to wear my black belt with my new Hwoarang cosplay this year.

I am LOVING Hwoarang’s aesthetic here. He looks so cool, he’s never looked better imo. Didn’t like how overly edgy he was in T7, so this one’s grounded style is much more preferred.
It take many year to pronounce his name cuz the sound of hwoarang which person begin said like hurrah or woarang . It just like Latino/Mexico language cuz like example the whole world said the word jam just like it was but for people of Latino/Mexico pronounce jam as yam cuz for them the letter j is became y unless other methods can difference the sound of it.
I was maining Hwoarang for a long time already, due to studying taekwondo for a long time, even when i switched martial arts in real life i still find him my favourite character in almost every aspect, and i’m quite happy to see him looking and feeling so good in tekken 8!
Most of his "new" moves shown are Baek's existing moves. The SS 3+4 cheat 720, d+2 head chop, 3+4 double back kick, and I'm sure he's got more of them. But there's no doubt he has more completely new moves that aren't shown in the trailer. I wish they gave him more hand strikes, but I'm still excited to play this version of him. Edit: I noticed that he's wearing a belt with a lot of degree lines. In the older Tekken games, he was wearing the 2nd degree black belt. It takes 3 years to get promoted from 2nd degree to 3rd degree. That could be Baek's black belt or a black belt he made on his own just to show off. No way he got promoted to 6th degree in just 6 months.
After the wall explosion, he does Baek's ws2 into I'm assuming 3, but that 3 looks like the second hit of Baek's ff4, 3 from tag2. Yeah they're definitely giving Hwo more of his moves.
This was the first thing I noticed. His new moves and Heat moves are all Baek's moveset. It pleases me that they're finally remembering Baek was his master.
My SECOND favorite character in all of Tekken! Fell in love with him and Jin in Tekken 3 equally! Glad their rivalry is still somewhat intact after all this time!
Finally, been waiting for this. The first thing that caught my eye was how calm Hwoarang is and now his kicks feel heavy as they should. He got his eye back, that must've cost him a lot
I'm a taekwondo black belt today because of him back in the early 2000s in Tekken 3. Finally they put some more realistic taekwondo moves, like Baek had. Hope he's strong point are not just "pressure" anymore, instead more fast kicks and "Magic 4" like we do in real life.
wait so his style is taekwondo? i always thought it was kick boxing, as someone who doesnt know much about fighting, whats the difference? either way if i was to learn fighting in real life it would be hwoarangs because my arms are sort of weak but i do 20 squats a day so my legs are pretty flexible, although with me being 5.8 tall i would be kind of small for his style, id end up kicking someone in the balls instead of the head by accident.
@@FreeAimDog As someone who does martial arts, Taekwondo tends to rely more on kick speed, flexibility, spinning kicks, and style, which is different from kickboxing's more rugged and straightforward version. Kickboxing is practically just the same as boxing, but with heavier kicks, while Taekwondo is more traditional, especially in its training methods. You don't need a tall height to be good in taekwondo, as taekwondo teaches you to kick above the head (in later belts). Nonetheless, I'd suggest you'd find a martial arts dojo/gym of any kind and learn, it's amazingly fun and useful
If you watched the anime, you know that's true though. No matter how many times Hwoarang said by mouth he hated Jin's guts, he was happy as long as they still get to fight or spar against each other for old times sake.

This means Baek will never be back.
@@AAKtheThird I'll tell you this as a T2 Baek main: I don't mind. I wouldn't be unhappy to see old man pimp roll through providing it's a good iteration of the character, but at the same time I enjoy Hwoarang evolving. 🤷🏻♂️☯️👌✌️

Your comment is just pure perfection! I share your sentiment but I couldn't have expressed it any better!
