Growing up in the 50s in Wisconsin, we never heard of pizza until Dean Martin's song. Then a pizza restaurant opened up in our nearby town, and we fell in love with it. But it was expensive, so my mother used to make pizza at home from The Appian Way pizza kit which was just then new at the stores right around 1959.

Oooh goodness! When she bit that piece of pizza, and it crunched!?! That expression on her face and her reaction was priceless. Again, just like the Italian ice video at the end, I laughed, I cried tears of JOY, for the simplicity, patience, kindness, and goodness of Claras way. And ANCHOVIES!!?!! My favorite! A girl after my own heart. Much love. And grazie.
She's a true sincere person. With all the politicians I've been watching lately, it's almost a shock to see someone real doing something valuable and something timeless and something eseential. And I believe that cooking also absorbs the energy and emotions of the cook, so the taste of her food would delight and satisfy.
She reminds me of my old Norwegian grandma who lived to see 100. She was a strong believer in her own kitchen, which started operations in 1927. Once in a while, though, she would say something that boggled me, such as how much better canned vegetables were than frozen. "Yeah, I know, Grandma . . ."
I’m a college student, money is very tight but I’ve been cooking Clara’s meals and they are really filling and delicious! I made two pizzas and was able to share with my roommates!

But my dad's mom was very much like Clara. A stable force in a chaotic family. If you have 1 of those, latch on to them & be good to them! =)
+xDamage69 I truly am sorry for your trouble but really wish you would vent on an appropriate site. Clara's videos are love fests.
+xDamage69 Unfortunately, grandparents like Clara are a dying breed. In the future everyone's grandparents are going to be tattooed and pierced, and will have no clue how to cook or do anything of value.
I love how no matter what she’s cooking, she says, “it’s nourishing and it’s good for you,” even pizza. Lol
Back in the day they were more concerned about providing enough calories than about gluten, saturated fats or cholesterol

I was surprised but pleased. Clara's generation takes you back to a simpler time of decency and making the best of circumstances. The didn't brag or complain like my Grandma. She sewed couture for the famous Hollywood costume film designer, Adrian, but my Grandma never talked about it. Very humble, but proud. My grandma was an example through behavior, not so much with words.

No matter what they ate back in the depression days they still had each other and that made the food absolutely delicious!! RIP my sweet Clara!!
I imagine just sitting with your family as a child, no electricity or distractions. I can imagine you'd be a lot closer to your loved ones.
Turn off your electricity and live that way then!
I so agree Rhob Cotner! Put the cell phones down and be into your children/family.

Nice to hear from a professional. :) Though I guess in her way Clara was too!
I just discovered Clara. my mom is 83. she was born in 1932. she told me that my grandma could take an egg and make 7 sandwiches for her and her brothers and sisters to take to school for lunch. my mom said that they didn't have electricity till she was 14.which would have been in 1946.
@Michael Rodriguez is a complete idiot
Michael Rodriguez - hopefully as you mature you'll see how wrong you are to judge people in the way you just did. This woman is telling how her family kept from starving. If you knew basic history, you would know that from the title of the series or the dates mentioned in the comment. Even if you have a problem learning, you'll be a happier person if you aren't calling people names. Hopefully you've read this far.
Michael Rodriguez That's so rude.
@Michael Rodriguez u r such an asshole. A rude asshole too.

Thank you for still having Clara on for us to all enjoy and to learn from. We needed good moms and grandmas, maybe we will get them next time around. God bless you, Clara.

When I was a child, my mom made these pizzas from a kit. It had the dough, the sauce, some Parmesan cheese. What it didn’t have was mozzarella or any other type of shredded cheese, so sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan was all we had on it.
I HATE anchovies, but PASS ME A SLICE.

I don't like anchovies either, but it's classic Italian. Clara looks like an Italian grandma, and Italian women of er generation were often named Clara.

Yes, every time I watch these but then I remember she's gone to heaven and I get sad, ugh.
Samuel Reyna yes n I intend to try some of her recipes and watch All her videos! She’s adorable 🥰🥰🥰
I started watching her videos because they came up in my recommended on youtube years ago. At fisrt I resisted thinking "what is this Poorman's meal? I don't need that" But one day I watched out of curiosity and boredom and found one of the sweetest and most real people. When I found out she passed I was just heartbroken. But it reminded me to listen to our elders and enjoy the love and friendship we have with people regardlesss of our circumstances. It can all change so quickly.
I agree with you. How I miss my parents so much!
And the poor man meal is delicious!!
Practical knowledge from more experienced people is basically a free gift. There's non-zero chance that we all go through darker times and people like Clara will save us.
lol when Clara said “one piece for the kids and they’re set”. Many of us eat way too much!
Sure we are eating too much, but at the time you also couldnt afford more than a slice per person.
I agree. Even 2,000 calories is too much.
Agreed. My 4 year old son eats 3 slices of pizza lol
Yep!! Over half of this country is obese. People eat way too much!
Nahhh. Kids don't eat much usually. Adults sure do though.
It's why as an adult I'd need 4 happy meals to feel like I ate but as a kid I'd struggle to finish one meal lol.
I just wanna give her a big hug and sit with her sipping coffee and eating cookies and listening to her whole life.

@ AARON I agree, I love how humble she is.
My grandmother was a Portuguese share cropper in the depression. She made us meals from the air. Taught us how to grow our own food. I love that I found this channel.
My Granny could feed a crowd on little to nothing. She never three food out. Never!

Not everyone has children at a young age! I'm 25 and my grandpa just passed away at 93, born in 1923.

The people who dislike theses videos really don’t know anything about the past, huh? My bets they are 8, 9 year olds who just want slime videos instead of an beautiful women teaching us recipies that could help us one day. One day we might end up back in the depression/war and we wouldn’t have what we have now. Electronics, the internet. We’ll need to know this stuff for later, so we can actually put food on the table. Her pizza is healthy looking. You can see its not dripping with grease from being covered with too much mozzarella, pepperoni and sausage. Notice she had no meat at all and at most a half cup of cheese for the whole pizza. Limited sauce too, the main star is the dough.
After all this woman has seen and been through and she still has a positive and upbeat attitude.

She's a true sincere person. With all the politicians I've been watching lately, it's almost a shock to see someone real doing something valuable and something timeless and something eseential.
And I believe that cooking also absorbs the energy and emotions of the cook, so the taste of her food would delight and satisfy.

Her pizza’s certainly are. But your pizza’s from Domino’s and Pizza Hut, not so much.
She reminds me of my old Norwegian grandma who lived to see 100. She was a strong believer in her own kitchen, which started operations in 1927. Once in a while, though, she would say something that boggled me, such as how much better canned vegetables were than frozen. "Yeah, I know, Grandma . . ."
