The reason they wrote "Choose humanity" on all of the posters is because they made all the human characters so unbearable, they knew people would start rooting for the aliens to wipe them all out.

The woman who excitedly announced that Another Life was coming back for a Season 2 was by far the best piece of acting I’ve seen related to that show. She did a brilliant job acting like she was actually excited.

Bruh imagine if the marketing for iron man was just “choose iron man”
Realistically, if they made an iron man 4, all the marketing would need to do is say "we made iron man 4"
And that will guerenteed get 1 billion dollars.
The difference there is that for Iron Man, that tagline would be completely unnecessary, as Tony Stark is such a well-written character with an entertaining egotistical persona along with an extremely compelling development arc, on top of one of the coolest gimmicks of any mainstream super hero. Nobody in their right mind would choose his antagonists; beyond the surface level idea of rooting for the good guy to overcome the bad guy, the villains are pretty weakly written in comparison.
Another Life needs the tagline "choose humanity", because the human characters are so poorly written that some people might actually want to see the aliens wipe them out. They have to make sure that you know who you're supposed to root for, because watching the show, you get confused on who's the bad guy.

Netflix's entire strategy is to basically constantly keep creating new originals to make it look like they have loads of IP and then cancelling them after 2-3 seasons when they have no more use for them. They clearly don't give a fuck if the show actually has a diehard following and critical acclaim like Bojack and Daredevil. Many disgruntled showrunners/cast and crew have vouched for this upon the constant sudden cancellations of projects they poured their heart and soul into. Charlie Cox (Daredevil) has even remarked on how hard it is for him to get roles since he was so used to not making eye contact due to acting as a blind guy for 3 years. They were full steam ahead for a 4th season and just got dropped out of nowhere. Fuck Netflix. All they care about is new subscriptions and paying exorbitant amounts for the rights for shite like Friends.

Even after re-litigating the 1 Hz/second, still nobody has mentioned what I see as the biggest problem with it. He's talking about music. If he meant to say "lower it to 1 Hz", that can only ever be one single note, and that note will be lacking its overtones. If he intended to say "lower it by 1 Hz/second", then the entire piece would be shifted downwards, but it would also become extremely out of tune. This is because the pitch of a note is caused by its relative frequency against other notes. An "octave" is the interval between two of the same note, and that is not a specific gap in frequency, its a ratio of 1:2
Like, the note middle C is usually 262 Hz in western music, and the next C above it is 524. After 100 seconds of reducing the frequency by 1 Hz/second, middle C would be 162, and high C would be 424 even though it should be 324, and now it's so badly out of tune that the music becomes unrecognizable. This is true of every other interval between any two notes, as they are all based on ratios like this.

Middle C, the specific C I was talking about, is the note exactly between Treble and Bass clef, on the first ledger line below Treble and above Bass. It being exactly between the two main clefs makes it useful as a reference point.

Honestly man maybe it’s just the nostalgia talking but Netflix has been so dry lately imo, I’ve been using D+ a lot more.
I always disliked most Netflix shows.
Almost every show I watched has the same set and story.
Evil, way to lucky bad guy finds the main characters and starts manipulate every single one of them without problems.
And its this annoying manipulating thing combined with the massive luck by the bad guy, but also stupidity by the good guys, that stretches through a whole season and it just pisses me off.
Could say, the bad guy is kind of a Mary Sue.
It was the same with Locke & key, Lost in Space, iron fist S2...
My opinion is that if you give either your money, you're just being lazy and you're actively supporting manipulative business practices that constantly work to milk the customer out of every dollar they possibly can while doing the *bare* minimum to please them *just* enough that you'll throw your money at them.
You can *very* easily get anything posted on Netflix, Disney+, or any other streaming service, or any media at all really for *free* . This is our best tool to fight against big businesses trying to constantly fuck us over

Xvladin dude it’s only 5.83 a month and piracy websites usually have terrible video quality. And if everyone took your advice, there’d be no more TV shows or movies because they wouldn’t be funded/supported by consumers and there’d be no way for the creators to keep track of how many people are watching something.
It’s such a testament to the writers of Bojack that they were able to take what was clearly 2 seasons of content and make it a perfect ending regardless. I’m honestly never gonna forgive Netflix for fucking them over though. Screw Another Life

I dunno about you but I'd rather see a show end than become Fairly Odd Parents. If it's cancelled when they still have good episodes, it is beloved and revered as a classic. FOP is shameless and shit because it was dragged out for 5 seasons longer than it needed to be.
I said that but what I meant was that, if a show runs for so long and keeps getting viewers, Netflix will run it right into the ground. Character development is great and I love this show but I'd still rather not see it run I to the ground like a plane crash.
Bojack Horseman is in my top 2 favorite adult animated series ever, right behind The Boondocks (sans Season Four). But I don’t think it could have expected a more appropriate ending for that show.

My theory on Netflix's decision to cancel shows, is they want to keep getting more and more different audiences subscribing, so they have to keep churning out different kinds of shows to turn heads. Of course, they can't afford to keep all the shows that already exist, so they start shuffling shows out and it's really stupid.
Exactly, noones going to cancel their Netflix subscription, so the people on Netflix are unhappy but it appeals to new audiences who arent subscribers.

Netflix shows are typically shot as two "seasons" shot over one production year, so I doubt this series was "greenlit" for another season as much as it was already shooting the second half of the production year as the first season dropped. It's just industry jargon to make it sound positive. It wasn't picked up, it was already being shot.
This is also the reason why risky projects can have 1.5-2 years time between the first season releasing and the second season releasing.
The only thing that needs to be shot is me after hearing that Another Life even made it past editing.

As for the frequency, you can't "drop" a song into one frequency. That would keep it from being music. Also, one Hertz is such a low frequency that it would take several seconds to even understand that a note _might_ be being played. It's so flawed on so many levels I really wish Netflix would just stop making things.

Also, you can't change the pitch of music by 1 Hz/second.
Music is a composition of notes. Imagine 2 notes, one at 800Hz, the other at 400Hz in the original. They have a harmonic relation of 2:1.
Now you drop the pitch 1Hz/second for 100 seconds. So is one note now 700Hz and the other 300Hz? No, that's impossible because however much you'd reduced the pitch, the harmonic relations of the notes would remain the same, and 700/300 =/= 800/400.
And there is no "base" frequency of the music.
Reducing the music by one Hz per second is MEANINGLESS for reasons that are separate to the fact the subtitles show he said "to" and not "by", and the fact that it happened very quickly.

Bojack Horseman will definitely go down in history as one of the greatest artistic productions in this era of television/streaming. The idea that Netflix would have their hands full of pure gold like that and toss it away so they can scoop up fistfuls of dog shit instead is just incredible.
Makes me reeeaaaally concerned about the fate of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the Lost In Space reboot, and Locke & Key. It makes me think that any show on Netflix right now that is even slightly sophisticated, or a little more niche, or just not pandering to Happy Madison productions guzzling nimrods who think The Ranch is the goddamned zenith of comedy tv shows, will be cancelled by these Netflix execs who wouldn’t know how to market a slightly more niche show to save the lives of their families from a blood thirsty pack of trained attack Tigers.

ehh to be honest if you compare the visual appeal and general vitality of the animation to that of the Simpsons in the 90s it really does not compare, and visuals is an important aspect of screen based art and media. The story always feels too subservient to the 'realness' cliche to me, I am biased against it as I dislike streaming services as a rule.
Also, even if the ship where flying in the middle of a spaghetti cloud, shouldn't the engineers made the ship some kinda of navigation system that don't depend on how well you can see in space?

See, if I were writing this show, “Another Life” would refer to the fact that being on the ship is a separate life from being on earth and requires living and making decisions differently. “Choose humanity” would then be not choosing the physical species of humanity, but the emotional humanity, i.e. morals. And choosing to stick to your morals in the face of unprecedented consequences.
Then again, if I wrote this show, I’d quit writing for good.
But like, that's a whole different story. At what point does rewriting the source material go from "fixing the story" to writing an entirely different story?
Like Another Life's premise is such blatant dickcheese and this isn't. This is leagues above whatever Another Life is going for; do you see what I'm getting at? It can't be saved without literally being a different story. That's how bad it is.

The funny thing is is that the writers in old Star Trek and DW actually consulted actual scientists for its fiction. While not real, the foundation is actually inspired by real scientific fields.
As a result, some of the shit on ST inspired real science. Amazing what happens when you put the legwork in writing.

Honestly I watched 4 episodes of the expanse and I was bored as fuck. The character were pretty boring and generic.
I wish bojack horseman got one more season the writers clearly wanted to do it
I could understand for the dark matter as if the gravity was strong enough it would bend light so they couldn’t see anything (like a black hole) but they would have the much bigger problem that they are about to get crushed by gravity.
I read somewhere that Netflix is going to renew "Another Life" in effort to combat the newly-competitive Streaming market, what with the four other major streaming services that cropped up recently.
...as for why "Another Life" specifically...my guess? It's easy to rush production, since clearly they don't need to spend time on the writing or making sure the production values are top-notch or anything. Quality takes time, and right now Netflix seems more concerned with Quantity, because... uh... because.
I mean, Netflix green-lit the film "Bright". Clearly they don't give a damn about quality.
I don't know. I would need to try to write something as bad as Another Life. I would need to take time to make it stupid; intentionally bad.

Bright at least was a pretty good and original concept, it just had poor execution (from what others have said and I've seen). While Another Life certainly could've been made to stand out, it has a lot more to compete against.
As a brain off cop drama Bright wasn't unwatchable. Another life was like watching a car crash caused by the driver watching a plane that was crashing into a side of a mountain that caused a rockslide that derailed a train carrying explosive LNG next to an elementary school full of small children.
I fully plan to not watch season 2 and just watch Jay's review of it.

Somehow my adolescent brain enjoyed under the dome season 1. I admit its bad and the acting is terrible and the plot is pretty dumb but holy shit it somehow gets much much much worse

Get the fuck out of here, they cancelled it?! I loved that show. The humor was much more up to date and I found myself laughing way more than the old seasons (which I still enjoy.) I hate Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt but I could tolerate them through this. At least we have the MST3k twitch channel still.

At first when I heard Bojack was ending I thought the creatives just thought it was a good place to end especially with Tuca and Bertie being a thing, now I learned that they cancelled both prematurely, I think I'm starting to see why everyone else mocks Netflix originals relentlessly, maybe I was just lucky or easily amused but most of the ones I've actually seen have been pretty decent, but to throw away Bojack and keep this, okay yeah I'm beginning to see why it's so mocked.

Luckily for the Bojack had a smooth landing with the cancellation. I didn't even know the show was cancelled. Just thought it ended naturally. Some thing smight've been a bit rushed maybe. Like Princess Carelyn's and her assistant's romance, and Diane and her boyfriend. I might be just nickpicking.
Many other shows that have been cancelled have just rushed everything, crashed and burned (cough! Steven Universe Cough! Even tho it's kids show but still)
And now one of the creators of Bojack is working with another amazing artist, and they're creating Undone for Amazon. Now let's hope Amazon knows what they have and cherish it.

They renewed The Dragon Prince for a season 4. But, Netflix refused to tell the writers that until after season 3, so they had to scrap their 6-season plan and rewrite season 3 as if it could be their last. If any part of season 3 seemed rushed, that's the reason why.

Didn’t realise Bojack got cancelled I thought they had decided to end it, but in that final season it felt weird like too much was happening, so hearing it got cancelled makes sense they where trying to get a satisfying ending. Unlike a lot of shows that have done the same.

Dunno if anybody said this already but Netflix didn't cancel Daredevil, it was Disney because they didn't want any Disney properties being on any other platform than Disney+. And yeah, Daredevil was the best superhero show and one of my favourite shows of all time FeelsBadMan.
Also, I'm happy there's gonna be a season 2... Then I can get to watch an hour long video of you shitting on it.

Also props for referring to Tuca and Bertie as "a well-made show that just didn't resonate with me personally". So many people have shit all over that show, just because it wasn't made for the express purpose of being watched by them. I know so many people who it absolutely resonated with and I would have loved to see what it could do with another season.

I actually really liked the ending of season 2 and thought it was a great way to stop the show. It resolved the major conflict while giving interesting hints about the futures of the side characters and their goals and motivations, giving the sense of a world that would keep growing and thrive with interesting people and stories. But I don't know if they needed to show us all those stories. I'm praying that season 3 will be good. But my deeply ingrained cynicism is whispering dark thoughts in my ears.

The OA ended its second season on an amazing cliff hanger & was cancelled. There was a petition to bring it back that went around, because it was a much loved show, & Netflix still didn't renew it.
I'm happy for the season two because that mean the you will be able to give us another 1 hours long critical analysis of it.
Bojack had kind of run it's course though. It could've gone longer, but it ended pretty well, without going on too long

For the record: One - Netflix didn't cancel the Marvel shows willingly. Disney pulled the show's rights from Netflix. Two - BoJack Horseman was never meant to be a series that would go on forever. Six seasons was a strong decision to have the series bow out on a high note while not having the creators and actors forever bound to given series production and they can move to newer things.
That said, Netflix does have a habit of renewing pure and utter garbage: hence the Another Life season 2.
Oh, and 3: Tuca & Bertie season two has been picked up by Adult Swim.

@V-Rex Diane's arc and Todd's reunion with his mother felt kinda off, maybe if I watch the show from beginning to end I could find more flaws but the show still is better than most of the garbage on Netflix

It felt rushed BECAUSE it got canned.
Todd's "arc" of the season was like 40 seconds and felt really weird and PC just randomly got married. You can really tell it wasn't supposed to end so soon

dark matter doesnt even INTERACT with anything, it only can have a gravitational pull, but that wouldnt be a problem when flying through it

The name "Another Life" makes it sound like it's supposed to take place on a human colony where people are trying to start, well, another life

This video and Star_’s review “How to make a Netflix Original” perfectly sum up the incompetence of the writers that Netflix keep hiring.
Jay if you want to see another show pull of an episode without dialoge but for 40 minutes instead of 20 then I highly recommend Mr Robot. The cinematography and characters in that show are absolutely amazing and seeing as you are someone with seemingly good taste I cannot recommend it enough.
