The only bad thing of piloting a super robot is you can't see your own super robot doing all that cool things, only sucky opponents crushed, so someone had to film the action for your personal use.

"mecha" as in a genre not always means robots. Look at Betterman, for example. Despite having some actual robots, they were more or less a secondary thing and the main source of mecha battles was Lamia/Betterman and his purely biological transformations.
