    Hey Dan! Your sleep stories have been a part of my life for such a long time and I wanted to say Thank you for helping me to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. Thank you for helping me to manage chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain and the bipolar spectrum disorder I am diagnosed with. Before discovering your channel (and others on RUclips) my body was wearing out my mind.
    I am now in a recovery and healing stage of life rather than in a crisis/emergency. My team of doctors and specialists were running out of options for relieving my pain and I didn't know what to do next.
    It's been a slow process of babysteps in learning about treatments and doing what I could. Making progress in managing my mindset, attitudes and moment to moment thoughts was the best part in the first year. I had to learn to let myself be distracted from the pain, tiredness and depression I was experiencing and instead encourage any sort of fun, relaxing or silly experience to linger.
    Your videos were often the only way I could stop the pain, tears and tiredness from ruining my day or night. I wanted you to know the difference you made for me. You Rock! Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot.

    Dan, I wish I could say that I love your stories but I’ve never heard a whole one...they work so well, I hardly know what they’re about. Your voice and manner of speaking work so well that I barely get into the story before I’m out. I’m torn between wanting to hear the end and also needing to go to sleep. Thank you so very much for doing this

    I have listened to this story no less than 15 times, I always start from the very beginning and I have never seen what is beyond the wooden door! LoL
    The other morning I woke up at 4am, 1.5 hours before my alarm. I thought, UGH, what an awkward time to be awake, I need that 1.5 of sleep but my mind os awake and already starting to work. I started this story and next thing I know, my alarm is waking me up!

    Hello Dan. I was wondering if you write your own stories. They are very descriptive and imaginative. Thank you for what you do. You help many people. It’s an awful thing not being able to sleep but you help us do just that 💕

    • @DanJonesHypnosis
      @DanJonesHypnosis  2 года назад

      Hi Liane, yes I create all my own stories just as I do in therapy. In the description of each video is a link to a video where I am teaching what I do and I demonstrate with a real client in front of an audience, creating a therapeutic story for the client based on the metaphors they reveal relating to their problem. If you search my channel for my sleep story creation sessions livestreams you will find about 60 videos of me creating the stories. I used to create each story live. I would ask viewers to suggest ideas in the chat for things they would love my to build a story around, then once I have a list of ideas I would adlib a story in real time. I generally don't write any stories, I do it just as I and any other psychological therapists do, I just adlib with the ideas given. If you've ever been for counseling or psychotherapy etc, all I'm doing is what they do as well, but normally in a therapy session, therapeutic stories are short, maybe 10-20 minutes long, as part of the season, whereas here I often make them perhaps 45-60 minutes long, which would be too long during a 90 minute counseling or psychotherapy session...

    Hi Dan!! I’m really happy to have stumbled across your channel! These sleep stories truly are helpful! Was wondering if you could possibly do one with some type of light background music? I know a lot of people really like asmr, but I happen to be very sensitive to the noises so a bit of light music would be super helpful for someone like me (same story just with the background added in). Doesn’t even have to be music- any type of white noise would help. Since this story is about going up a mountain, perhaps light mountain noises? I dunno, just a thought. But something to help with the asmr noises and to fill in the intentional pauses would really help me a bit more.
    Not sure if that’s something you can do easily or not?
    I really do appreciate these though! Much thanks and then some!! 🤗

    I never know what your stories are about because I sleep so fast to your soothing voice... however this particular one for some reason I listened to right when I woke up and the beginning of this one felt like a horror movie. Some dude gives you a free trip weird taxi guy picks you up and doesn’t say a word and drops you off in the middle of nowhere with an ominous castle in the distance. Lol

    • @DanJonesHypnosis
      @DanJonesHypnosis  4 года назад

      It is always nice when people are kind and offer you something for free that will be helpful and therapeutic and it is always good when taxi drivers don't talk to you. I can't think of much worse than getting into a taxi and the driver talks to you, you just want to get in in silence and have them drive to the destination in silence. All my meditations are obviously always positive, despite regular requests to do horror sleep meditations I refuse.

      Dan Jones Hypnosis - Guided Sleep Meditations you couldn’t be more right honestly. Well put. Keep up the fantastic work. A horror story with your voice would still put me to sleep. Sweet dreams. Thank-you.

    • @DanJonesHypnosis
      @DanJonesHypnosis  4 года назад

      I've made horror stories on my channel before, not for sleep though, they were to scare. One was a collection of spooky tales told hypnotically to evoke certain feelings in the listener, the other was told hypnotically so that people would start experiencing spirits etc leaving their screen and being in the room with them etc (like The Ring, only experiencing hypnotic hallucination so that it is as if The Ring or Paranormal Activity is really happening to you in your room as you watch, with you stuck in your chair). I gave lots of warnings before these videos and in the descriptions, but decided that it was still best to remove them from RUclips about a decade ago now...

    • @JoePayette
      @JoePayette 4 года назад +1

      Dan Jones Hypnosis - Guided Sleep Meditations that sounds terrifying. I can honestly say I’ve never sought after something of that nature. I do listen to scary stories but they are just short ones on RUclips with crap animation. I could imagine that being very frightening to a point that I would be weary of trying it. What a weird profession/trade/hobby that you have been called upon. Btw thanks for responding and opening my eyes to potential spiritual journeys whether positive or negative. Never been in touch with my spiritual body as I have always thought it not to be true. Appreciate your responses.

    • @JoePayette

    To read that doing these stories leaves you angry and stressed breaks my heart! They bring such peace to those of us that listen to them night after night that it never occurred to me the amount of stress it would cause to come up with them. I don’t know a thing about copyrights but I for one, would listen to you read any story; it wouldn’t matter who wrote it, just that it was your voice reading them. As much as I enjoy your original stories I wouldn’t want them to cause you anything but joy so perhaps you might want to consider recording stories that available to the public? I know I’ve listened to a few that begin with These books belong to such and such, meaning they are public stories and not subjected to copyrights. At least that’s what I think it means. 🙂. I always thought that the number of subscribers was how you tubers made money from their videos. If that’s not true, then please let us know what does contribute to it. If there’s a way to help I’m sure we would all do what we can to support your content! It’s the least we can do when you get us to drift off every night!

      You do make money based on ads viewed and clicked but I wouldn't want anyone to click on ads for my benefit, that isn't allowed and would lead to the channel likely being removed by youtube if people started doing that, so I obviously wouldn't want people to do that.

    • @DanJonesHypnosis

      I always actively tell people to make sure to turn off autoplay. I create playlists so that people can find the meditations they want to listen to but for many reasons including the RUclips introduction and ads playing at the start of videos which can end up being loud and disruptive between one meditation ending and the next one beginning I recommend not listening to meditations in playlists. This is why I create the compilation videos, which have perhaps 8-10 hours of meditations back to back with just the single introduction at the beginning and no ads for the whole 8-10 hours. I also recommend that anyone who wants to listen to their own selection of sleep meditations to use the sleep stories podcast where none of the meditations have ads or introductions, just the audio meditations which you can put into your own playlists, you can download for offline listening etc, or if you have a streaming service subscription you can listen to any of my sleep meditations on the streaming service without ads or introductions, or you can buy the albums or individual tracks you like from places like iTunes or Amazon Music and listen without ads or introductions.
      Whispering the introduction sounds stupid and weirdly creepy, so I don't do that, I generally set the volume of the introduction to slightly lower than the volume of the sleep meditation, but I've only been doing that since my channel became a sleep meditation channel at the end of last year, prior to that I didn't care about these videos, I posted them because people were moaning about wanting them. My channel until September 2019 was, and had been since 2007, a mental health and autism channel and as part of covering mental health I would occasionally make these healing sleep meditations, then in 2018 unfortunately they became more popular than my normal content and people started telling me in comments to stop posting about autism and mental health, that no-one care, they subscribe for the meditations. I ignored this for a while but then realised that because the meditations where getting so many more views than my normal content RUclips started treating my channel as a sleep meditation channel and subscribers for the few sleep meditations I had posted outnumbered this subscribed for my normal content, so I gave in and said I hate making them but will make them more frequently but will not be wasting a lot of time on them, just audio recording, slapping the intro in place and uploading. I didn't put them in playlists, I didn't edit the audio, other than if there was a significant reason to do so, like if I paused during recording due to a loud noise etc and so needed to cut the pause/loud noise out, and because nothing was in playlists and it was rare for people to listen back to back to the sleep meditations, so the volume issue rarely came up.
      I totally stopped making sleep meditations late 2018 because I hate doing something I hate and I hated that sleep meditations had taken over my usual content and I wanted RUclips's algorithms to go back to closing my channel as a mental health and autism channel. Unfortunately, this never happened, mainly because I didn't delete the meditations, which is what I was going to do, but viewers said they helped them and asked me not to delete them, which is also why I haven't deleted them now either.
      Then in September 2019 I decided I was doing RUclips content every week focused on mental health and autism and RUclips was still treating my channel as a sleep meditation channel and people were unfortunately still subscribing more for meditations than for my usual content and that I should perhaps just bite the bullet and do what my audience seems to want even if I hate doing it, so that is what I did, I redid my intro, I started posting edited sleep meditations and going through all previous meditations editing them for Spotify etc, I did things like making sure the volume of the meditation was as loud or louder than the introduction, By November when I now has a wide selection of new meditations and realised that with approaching 100 meditations it was going to be harder for people to find what they are looking for if they like something specific, like meditations set in woodland or on a beach etc, that I would create a comprehensive selection of playlists. This meant I had to listen to all of my meditations to find out what they were about, write descriptions, put them in the playlists etc (prior to this I never had descriptions for any of the meditations and so couldn't tell you what any of them were about our what happened in them etc) and so the playlists are created to help people find the single meditation they were looking for, not expecting people to listen to whole playlists because people would know that for sleep it obviously wouldn't be sensible just based on the ads problem, where ads play at the beginning of videos and so if you listen to a playlist you may fall asleep during the first meditations but then may get jolted awake by the loud ad for an action movie, or done other loud ad which you would need to click skip on after five seconds, but by then you are awake and it was pointless falling asleep to the first meditation and if you fall asleep to the next meditation you know in 30 minutes or however long the meditation is you may get jolted awake again and so would likely be unable to relax. So I decided, as well as setting up a sleep stories podcast so that people can listen to the meditations ad free, that I would create compilations of the meditations, so every time I've uploaded enough meditations for another compilation, I upload a new compilation, usually about 4 per year. I also decided to put all of my sleep meditations onto streaming and downloads services so that people with subscriptions to other services can listen to the tracks on those services ad free and create their own playlists of introduction and ad free meditations.
      I no longer post any sleep meditations on this channel and don't usually check comments etc here anymore, due to issues with RUclips. But have decided to leave my meditations available because people have said they don't want me to delete them.

      When people do meditation or hypnosis they have pauses to allow the experience to develop in the listener. If you ask someone to see something, they need time to do that. During training when learning hypnosis or meditation you get taught to talk slowly and give plenty of pauses to allow people to become deeply absorbed in the experience. Ideally you want to talk as people breathe out and pause as they breathe in, especially when it comes to relaxation, talking continuously didn't allow the relaxation to develop because you would always be onto the next thing. In my meditations I generally don't have long pauses now, some of my stories have one or two pauses of about 10 seconds but most of my pauses are around 2 to 4 seconds. Even during presenting when giving talks tthe training as a speaker is to pause for 4-7 seconds whenever you ask a question or want to set a scene and give sensory information so that the person has time to develop the experience, or if you have asked the audience to consider or gain insight from something so that they have time to do that. So for example in my stories if I present a way of handling uncertainty I want to pause to give time for that to sink in, the same if I present the idea of gaining perspective or any of the other therapeutic ideas. So the will determine pause placement and often pause length. There would be no good me talking about walking through the woods or along a beach if I don't give time for the listener to develop that scene in their mind, and the therapeutic parts would be less effective if I just quickly moved on and didn't give time for the ideas to develop and sink in, and the listeners engagement would be less making the whole thing significantly less effective and more intrusive if I didn't talk in a slow and measured way with space for the listener to work.

      When you do guided meditations or hypnosis or guided relaxation with people you need to talk in a calm and relaxing way to convey relaxation, you need to give people time to absorb themselves in the experience, if you move on too quickly then people can't keep up. Obviously every person is different, it is great if you are one of the lucky few who can so easily follow along and get absorbed in the experience and if I was working directly with you I would see that you are rapidly relaxing deeply and are already absorbed in the experience and so I would go through the experience faster with you. Face to face the average pause would be 30 seconds or more, sometimes many minutes to give the person time to be absorbed in experiencing the meditation.
      Obviously on RUclips people can set the video speed to play it faster if needed.
      When you learn to do meditation or hypnosis with people the training is that you talk at the speed of the person's breathing, speaking as people breathe out, pausing as people breathe in and then once you are matching the person's rhythm you start to allow your rhythm down, you talk slower and they then breathe slower and relax deeper. Obviously in a pre-recorded track I can only approximate in time with the breathing of listeners and so some people will naturally find my rhythm too fast because right from the outset they breathe very slow, do and relaxed and others will find my rhythm too slow as they breathe very fast and I'm already too slow for them. This is all stuff which obviously isn't an issue face to face when I am responding to a single individual, or even when I work with groups where I can see each person and respond to watch person in the group by directing my voice to individuals.
      Obviously something these videos aren't is just me telling a story like reading a book, they are guided sleep meditations designed like meditations, to help with relaxation and then the metaphors used and ideas presented are to help the listener take worry, anxiety and stress as well as to fall asleep. None of my videos are likely to be suitable for anyone who is just looking for someone reading a story rather than looking for guided meditations to help them sleep and to reduce anxiety, worry and stress.

      As these are designed to help people fall asleep it is important not to stimulate feelings of excitement as the physiological behaviours of excitement are arousal processes rather than sleep processes, things like increased heart rate and breathing rate and release of adrenaline etc. What I am to do (which doesn't mean I succeed for everyone who listens along to my stories) is to engage curiosity, wonder, intrigue, possibly awe. These are all processes known to stimulate healing, neuroplasticity (growth of new neurons and new connections between neurons), and these things focus attention which triggers the PGO wave which is what triggers the onset of dreaming sleep, and focusing the attention also stops the attention being focused on other things like everyday worries etc, that are often things people do preventing them from falling asleep. It is also important that the story isn't all about the ending, that someone can fall asleep during the story (most people are asleep within 10 minutes) and be comfortable with this even if they feel they would like to one day know how it ends.
      I have some stories which have more excitement in them, like my dragon stories which have battles with dragons. The risk of these though is that they could keep the person awake, so they are done to generally be calm and take the listener on a journey, and not exciting throughout. The excitement is also kept quite late in the stories so that those falling asleep to the story will be asleep by the end, or at least so comfortable and relaxed that a few minutes of excitement doesn't rouse them back to full wakefulness. (like if wakefulness was 10 on an scale of 0-10 and listening to the story got them to a 2, and then the exciting part roused them to a 4, and then there is a sense of relief after this which hopefully gets them back to a 2 again. Whereas if it was more exciting throughout they may start as a 10, to be asleep they need to reach 0, but because they are engaged in the story they relax as it is being told in a relaxing way, yet unless they are tired enough to just fall asleep the excitement keeps them awake and perhaps hovering around 5 all the way through to the end, they find they liked the story but are still awake and still need to do something to fall asleep).
      Sometimes I put in bits I think would be more exciting for brief moments, but what one person finds exciting others find scary or they dislike. For example I have a story somewhere of searching for a lost tomb and making a dangerous journey and then slipping and falling where you then discover the tomb. Obviously the Uncharted style carefully traversing an environment and like in an Uncharted game where you are on edge trying to get to where you need to go, it is exciting and you are worried you may fall, and then at the end you jump for a ledge which collapses and you suddenly fall and moments later as it goes to a cut scene you realise the fall was okay, you then discover you have fallen to where the thing was you were searching for. Some people have complained about the tension and how it is scary to suddenly fall. Whereas others find it exciting and part of the story. I've had the same with some of my underwater stories were people suddenly discover underwater passages into secret worlds or long lost treasure etc., even though my description will make it clear this type of thing is in the story some people say they had to stop listening, they couldn't think of anything more scary than being in an underwater cave...
      Always happy to hear what type of story you feel would be good and what type of things you feel would add excitement. I always have to come up with and create new stories...
      All the best
      Dan

    • @DanJonesHypnosis
      @DanJonesHypnosis  6 лет назад +6

      Because it's hard to make the long stories and having to keep coming up with ideas. So those who have seen my posts over the last year will know how I stopped making any stories because I ran out of ideas and as youtube doesn’t make me a living I told subscribers that although they want regular new stories I can't downs dozens of hours each week getting stressed and angry trying to create these stories when I also need to make a living, so for about 6 months or more I didn't post ant stories and yet was still constantly asked to do so. I said to subscribers that if my channel was popular enough to be making me part of my living I would be able to put more hours into creating stories and afford to put less time into my usual work. So to help encourage viewers of my stories to subscribe and to help increase views of them and to encourage sharing the videos and helping increase subscribers to try to help me reach a point where I am making some income from youtube so I can focus on making stories more and less on the things I currently do to make a living I came up with posting a new story every 1000 subscribers.

      ok. post one story every two days for six months and see how fast you will grow.

    • @DanJonesHypnosis
      @DanJonesHypnosis  6 лет назад +4

      I was posting stories daily in 2015, then cut this to 3 days per week through 2016, then once per week through the beginning of 2017 until I eventually focused on uploading other things because working about 40 hours per week on what I do for a living and then 80 hours on youtube which doesn't make me a living wasn't good for my mental or physical health. It would take me hours sitting down trying to come up with each story then hours to get the story recorded and then hours to turn it into a youtube video and find or make an image and do the description etc. I've found a way to make this process easier but can't put in those kinds of hours unless I can reduce my hours I spend on making a living off youtube. I reached a point where I decided my health and spending time with my wife was more important than working an extra 80 hours per week for no income. I post at least once per week on youtube currently, posting a bedtime story once per month (not including my long stories), once per month about being autistic, once per month about hypnosis, once per month a therapeutic meditation and then in the months where there are five weeks I post another video plus if I have other things to share and when I do live videos I do these additionally on other days (my main videos post every Friday). Since doing the 'long story for 1000 subscribers' as an addition to what I already so on my channel it people really do want these long stories they can help me be able to do them, and my subscriber rate has grown rapidly since doing this. The first 1000 hit in three months or so, second 1000 hit in just over two months, third thousand hit in 26 days. As I've mentioned elsewhere there will hopefully come a point where I don't need to do it per thousand as I am now because I'll be making enough income to focus most of my time on youtube and can do them most days any way.

    I found it hard to follow with the character/s referred to as plural and non plural . At time their was also background noise, overall I thought it was a bit well .... sloppy . Also, I think your request for subscriptions then you make a story is a bit of a conditional thing so I had subscribed yesterday but on second thoughts I decided it was to conditional and not for me. I did like a story of yours last night but this one didn’t compare to me. The ONLY reason I unsubscribed was what I consider as, the conditional terming for subscriptions . To me that’s not how you. make numbers stack up of anything . There is enough people to go around and if a channel has good videos people will subscribe . You kind of are going about it the hard way . Relax and form relationships in the knowing of your good work and trust in what vibe you put out is what is returned to you. I hope this comment is of some assistance for you . Thanks

      I don't make stories based on subscribers now, but for a year I did. My subscribers know how much I hate making the stories, how stressful I find it and how angry I get during the process of making them. My main way of doing therapy is using storytelling and that is easy and relaxing because the client I am working with gives the content for the story, whereas doing these stories I have to create the content from nothing. As I had replied to others, whereas other RUclipsrs do things like saying to subscribe and when they reach a specific milestone subscribers are entered into a competition to win an ipad or lightsaber or whatever gift and only one person gets that. I wanted to do something which benefits every one of my subscribers as a thank you for subscribing, not just one subscriber so I said if they want what I can do is (as I stopped making stories) make a new story every time I reach the next thousand subscribers, so that I am giving something back to my youtube community that they would like. I announced in October that from this year I was no longer going to make a story every thousand because I don't like making the stories, for over a decade that hasn't been what my channel has been known for, it is only over the last couple of years people seem to have preferred my stories compared to my other videos like my videos about my experiences of being autistic which is the main area I want to make videos about. My sole reason for making the stories is for youtube subscribers, not for me.
      My stories are therapeutic as well as for sleep. It is the first time I think I've ever had a therapeutic story of mine called sloppy, which is obviously fine, not everyone like everything, which is why I have made so many different types of stories using many different approaches for those who like different approaches and covering a very wide range of topics. Therapeutic storytelling is one of the main things I'm known for and teach and have done for over 20 years. My use of language is very specific in my stories, like at what points I have the listener as the character and as the observer of the character and whether I talk about a male character, female character or no reference to whether the character is male or female. It is important when I am doing that from a therapeutic perspective. I know some people don't like listening to stories where I specify the sex of the character, others don't like me not specifying the sex of the character and some like it kept all first person or third person and don't like it when some points change from first to third or third to first. In over twenty years this has never happened or been an issue in therapy sessions or during demonstrations on training courses I've held, but it has occasionally been an issue on stories here. My view about why this might be is that I think people here forget these aren't just stories to send someone to sleep, they are therapeutic, they are to help reduce worry, anxiety and stress and to help improve sleep. As a therapist that is important to me, not just to use hypnotic techniques to help the listener fall asleep.
      I haven't listened to this track for a while at regular speed so I don't know what specific background noise there would be, but in my stories there are occasionally sounds from the nearby road. It is usually quiet, but if a loud motorbike or police car etc goes by this gets picked up. Unless it is very loud I don't normally notice it while recording and as I have to do the stories in a single take and don't use scripts if there is a noise and I happen to be talking at the time or it overlaps with me talking (so it would be odd to have a bit of police car then silence, or silence and then suddenly when I talk next there is the sound of a police car as well) then it is generally better to leave it in so that everything flows more naturally and is more familiar to the listener rather than unnatural and suddenly jarring to the listener because it doesn't match with everyday experience of those things. I am obviously just an individual who records the stories at home in a room which is usually very quiet but as mentioned, occasionally there will be a police car or motorbike, but across over 100 stories I've posted on my channel, it has happened infrequently and this is generally one of my most popular stories here on RUclips.
      My view as mentioned on the conditional subscriptions is that it was a compromise, people want me to make stories, I want to talk about mental health awareness and autism awareness. I get stressed and angry making the stories and really hate doing it, but people say 'they are so helpful, please keep making more'. As mentioned other RUclipsr's get subscribers saying you are entered into a prize draw for an item when a milestone is met, or they say they will make a specific video or post a specific interview with someone etc when they reach a milestone. It never crossed my mind that doing the same would be seen as anything other than a positive where I am demonstrating my gratitude for the kindness of viewers and how grateful I am for them showing interest in what I do that I want to give something back to them for that. I engage and respond to almost every comment (about 260 in December according to RUclips) and try to be as helpful and honest as I can with everyone and give as much recognition as I can to subscribers, because the channel wouldn't exist if it wasn't for subscribers (including back in August 2018 where I released my 'Bedtime Stories for Grownups' book which gives acknowledgement to the 150 most active subscribers on my channel over the months in the run up to the books release, and many of my stories being created by my subscribers coming up with the ideas for the setting for the story, the stages of the story and how the story will end, voting on the various ideas they contributed until we had whittled it down to the final setting, stages and ending, and then I would create a story using subscribers ideas as the backbone for the story which would go live when I hit the next thousand milestone, and I regularly ask subscribers to share in the comments ideas for stories they would like to see and I create stories based on the ideas they share). I obviously don't mind if people subscribe or not, but those who do subscribe or who do decide to regularly watch my videos I value them and do what I can to therapeutically help them even when I find doing so stressful and makes me angry and is something I hate doing (because I don't like feeling like I am going to have a heart-attack and feeling inner rage. I like feeling calm and relaxed).
      All the best
      Dan

      Michelle, Dan has helped thousands of people with these stories. I for one have had my life changed from insomnia caused illnesses and constant tiredness to what some people might not think is a good night's sleep but for me is a miracle! The downside is that they are hideously hard work and stressful for Dan and the idea that the number of subscribers results in him giving a gift to all of us with another story was incredibly generous of him. I personally am glad he has given them up because there are plenty on here and each one can last forever if you start at the beginning each time. I don't know if you were new to this channel, it sounds like it, but I can assure you the Family of Dan Jones Subscribers and fans have a very close relationship with him and he does not need to "form relationships" - lovely crass comment considering his autism so well done there. As for "sloppy", well I have never seen another opinion like that, total nonsense. Well I have had my say, sorry to go on, but I was quite cross with your post even though I do know you are entitled to your opinion. I just feel if you had stuck it out and watched some of Dan's autism videos and read more comments on his stories you might have been less inclined to criticise. Anyway, that's MY opinion lol! 😁

      Thank you for the feedback, this is the first story of mine with these types of comments on it for some reason. Previous stories all the comments have been positive and about looking forward to me reaching my next thousand and about how they like the stories and want me to post more of the long stories (which I hadn't done for month and pointed out I had no intention of doing more stories). Obviously letting people know I give a long story as a thank you gift every time I pass my next thousand and so if people want more of the long stories they can subscribe and share to help reach the next thousand quicker I thought having discussed with current subscribers was a good compromise as I don't like doing the long stories, to me my channel is mainly about focusing on autism awareness and my experiences of being autistic and the stories cause so much anger and stress to make and take so much time, I'm happy with just my usual weekly videos and not making these long stories which is why from months of talking with current subscribers this seemed like a good compromise. But if for some odd reason youtube being a two way thing rather than all about taking and not about wanting to support RUclipsrs you live so that they can create content you want and working together and RUclipsrs saying here is the next gift for you all for helping me and supporting me in reaching my next thousand milestone is actually something people see as negative I am happy to stop doing this and stop doing the stories. As my subscribers know I do them 100% for the subscribers, they aren't something I want to do or like doing.

      I think you have perhaps misunderstood this Mimi. The person was given the ticket and don't know where they are going, yes, but as a surprise present, not just like oh I met a complete stranger in the pub and they gave me a ticket. Although it's not spelled out in detail I presumed it was from a family member or a partner. Therefore it's an organised holiday from someone they trust, if you see what I mean?

    I enjoy your voice & stories, but Please add some background music. I had to turn it off because of the swallowing noises and radio/tv in the background.

      There is no radio or TV in the background? I record in a silent room. Occasionally a police car or similar will go by out on the road. When this happens I do my best to edit the sound out. The road can't be heard from the room I record in, but sirens are very loud and can be heard.
      To add background music to these would have extended production time from 5 hours for the story to 10 or more hours, and although some people like background music others don't, and others don't like the chosen music, it is difficult to get it to everyone's tastes. I always recommend people use the Slumber app if you want background music as that allows you to fade in different background music and different sounds and choose volume of these etc, or to listen to my tracks with no music or sounds. Or I recommend people add their own music. Some get the mp3's of tracks and then put it in editing software, add a music track and save it as a new mp3 with your chosen music. Or they use free online background music software and have this open playing in a different window while listening to the track.

      Dan please don't add background music your stories are so effective as they are.!!
      If you feel so strongly Rose I'm sure you can find a different channel with no swallowing as you say.

      The issue is the swallowing sounds...not background noise.

    Something about only giving your subscribers the content they want if they first do something for you just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I might be the only one that feels that way ,, I guess.

      I've explained to someone else how these stories take so long to come up with and make as a regular thing and I find doing them makes me so angry and stressed, so I spoke with subscribers of my channel as people were asking me to make these long stories again (I had stopped for about 6 months just doing one video per week and had made it clear I wasn't going to do any more of these bedtime stories because I had done about 100 and was now finding it difficult to come up with new and original ideas especially when RUclips doesn't make me any income).
      I explained that if RUclips was making me some income then I would be able to focus more on my channel rather than doing 40-50 hours per week to make a living and then I do RUclips around this. Subscribers suggested that they would help me to grow my channel by sharing my videos etc and so I said for now as a compromise, I always like to give things to say thank you for how grateful I am to subscribers and regular viewers of my videos, that I would do long stories as a bonus I release on my channel (as these aren't my main channel videos due to how angry and stressed I was getting to create them when I was doing them initially daily, then three times per week, then once per week and then I stopped making them) as a thank you for every 1,000 subscribers I reach. I used to just do a live video to chat with people and say thank you, so as this is something people want it seems like a better gift.
      Obviously if it turns out that people coming to the channel find giving a gift, like a long story to say thank you to subscribers for their support gives a bad taste in their mouth and it seems to be more than the odd person then I am happy to stop these long stories and carry on with my channel posting the stuff I like sharing and I like spending my time doing - which is around my experiences of being autistic to raise autism awareness. These long stories I only do for subscribers, not for me, I prefer not doing them as the process of doing them is so time consuming and stressful especially when I am fitting it around making a living. I had never seen giving a thank you gift when my channel hits milestones as being something people would have a problem with, but as this is the second comment I've had like this I see now that for some people it is.
      Most of my current subscribers are incredible and supportive people who like my work and want to do their bits to support my work so that I can do more of it for them.

      I totally understand where you’re coming from, I know lots of youtubers do similar things but I guess it’s how you worded it. I would recommend something like “ if you guys like these stories and want more then let me know in the comments and by liking this video” or something like that. Just a thought. Either way you are great at stories :)

      SARA ! I view Dan’s approach as attempting to offer a incentive for us to help him get what he needs, but I also hear what you are saying in that it sort of feels like he is being coercive or withholding. I like bedtime stories and if I could get friends to subscribe to his channel I would. Unfortunately I have no friends. LoL I’ve suggested before to Dan that he get a Patreon account, Paypal account, and a safe mailing address so people can easily put money his way. Dan- I am still waiting on you to do that!

      Satana Diable I know what he’s doing and tons of big youtubers do it. I just thought I’d mention there may be a better way of saying it. He actually has changed how he intros now in his new videos. Because of me? Not sure but it sounds way better. Thanks for your input and time!
