    • @Smiththebat
      @Smiththebat Месяц назад +2

      Not necessarily. Only teams in over the luxury tax by 17.5M or more fall into the apron. Essentially it’s a step towards parity, in that rich teams can’t just keep getting richer using a bunch of legal nonsense and loopholes to stack their rosters. Smaller teams will still buy second round picks and use exceptions.

    • @Dzad00
      @Dzad00 Месяц назад +4

      Trade exceptions aren’t worthless for most teams. The simple way to look at it is:
      *2nd Apron Teams- Can’t use any trade exception
      * 1st Apron Teams: Can’t use old trade exceptions, but can create/use new ones.
      * The other 20ish Teams: can use old exceptions and can create/ use new ones as well.

    • @HKim0072
      @HKim0072 Месяц назад +1

      @@Hopper830 Thought OKC would be able to get away with some lower than max. Timing is off though.
      SGA, Chet, J Williams, Dort (team option) will cost $143.5M in '26-27. Luxury tax line will be $206M.
      Giddey extension?, Other Jaylin extension? Dieng? K Williams / Cason are on the last year of a rookie deal for 14.5M combined.
      Yeap, money gets tight. And, SGA is up for another extension in '27-28. They'll need to tighten up their roster and backfill with cheap draft rookie contracts.

    Crazy question I don’t think you answered. Is Boston in the second apron able to trade a big contract like Tatum and take back 2 or 3 smaller contracts up to the same number Tatum makes or less? Just asking thank you I understand you can’t agrigate players out but what about in? Thanks for all your work

    • @Smiththebat
      @Smiththebat Месяц назад

      Yes. It has to match dollar for dollar or Boston doesn’t get the difference. You can still trade Tatum for lesser contracts but you lose money if the disparity between contracts is big.
      Either that OR you just can’t aggregate at all. But I assume you just can’t work your way up with aggregation. The whole goal of these rules is to promote parity.

    • @HKim0072
      @HKim0072 Месяц назад

      @@Smiththebat Not exactly. If Tatum makes $50M, the Celtics can only receive back $50M in salaries. Not a penny over. In the past, you have a variance (not sure of the exact amount).
      And, the sending team will be restricted by their own rules and what apron they are slotted.

    the biggest hurdle to the new CBA it hurts teams like OKC and GS before them who drafted and developed well and decide to keep their own players. In retrospective unless you're a big market team who generates serious revenue or a championship caliber team theres no logical reason to even go into the 1st or 2nd apron. However we cant feel sorry for billionaires if you wanna compete for a chip youre going to spend $$ and possibly overpay to keep your core guys otherwise youre likely losing em for nothing. Also its going to force the 1st/2nd apron teams to draft well and hope they hit on those picks e.g. GSW hitting on Podz and TJD bc the role players you do get are likely going to be on vet minimum deals likely back end rotation pieces!!

    • @WorldWide3133
      @WorldWide3133 Месяц назад +6

      Not amongst high salary teams, which is why they made this. Some teams who are in the right combination of contending and large market have historically just gone P2W, and dealt with it.
      This (supposedly) makes it harder for the rich to get richer.

    • @Dzad00
      @Dzad00 Месяц назад +1

      No necessarily- a team like Dallas could trade someone like Kyrie to the Cavs for like D. Mitchell. That would still be considered a blockbuster. (Not that, that specific trade would actually happen, but just an example to show blockbuster trades could still happen.) It does limit the possibilities though.
