this might be a weird thing to say, but i really appreciate the way Emmy preserves the privacy of her family. She mentions them, but they never appear on camera. So many youtubers exploit their families and children for their videos and i love that Emmy doesn't do that. The most responsible way to use this platform imo.

In one of her older videos after her first child was born, she showed his head (he was in a baby papoose against her chest) but didn’t show his face, and stated that she didn’t want to show him on camera because he wasn’t able to consent to being in her videos, which I thought was really cool of her. :)

Many, many years ago when my wife and I were first dating I found an orange sulfur self mushroom in the woods, brought it home, and prepared it that night for dinner for her. (She's a vegetarian.) I made a sun dried tomato pesto with sauteed o.s.s.mushroons over linguine. Even though she saw the mushroom before I cut it up and cooked it (We both did a second identification check against our fungi field guides before deciding to eat it) she still thought I snuck chicken into the dish. We've been laughing about "...tastes like chicken for over thirty-two years now. I hope you and your family have many, many fun years of hunting for mushrooms.

This was so cool to watch! My husband and daughter and I found a chicken of the woods on our walk the other day. We thought it was beautiful, but didn’t know it was edible. The next day, when we returned to the spot, the entire mushroom was gone-someone got a good meal!

Listen i understand the history and that i respect. With that said, chitterlings are disgusting and the fact that some of my people still eat them is honestly...disheartening. You're so brave to eat mushrooms you sourced yourself. I don't have that much confidence in my identifying skills.
I recently joined the large mushroom ID group on Facebook of all places and it has been super interesting to learn and know I could get some good second opinions should I find a mushroom.
RIGHT?! I LOOOVE mushrooms, but I’d be so afraid I’d get a Super Mario poison mushroom and lose a life. 🍄
It's pretty intimidating at first, but some mushrooms don't have toxic lookalikes so it's not as unsafe as you might expect, especially if you have someone with experience to guide you at first. I'd never try to pick mushrooms that are trickier to identify but some aren't too risky because they're pretty unique looking.
Somebody once told me the rule of thumb is if the mushroom is pretty it could be poisonous if it’s ugly or meh you can eat it. (Don’t actually follow this rule)
I think this specific kind is one of the easier ones to identify. I wouldn’t feel weird about foraging hen of the woods, but def wouldn’t trust myself with any other mushroom
How wonderful that your children are learning about foraging! You and your husband must be such caring teachers for them! It gives me joy to know that such parents really do exist.
I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now and recently just got a new kitten, I named her Mochi and I’ve noticed that she really loves Emmy’s voice! She will sit here in my lap and watch her videos and she is so entranced! Idk if it’s the imagery or the voices coming from nowhere or if she’s genuinely entertained but I adore that I have a friend to watch these videos with me now. TLDR: My cat approves of this channel very much.

Wow. When I was working as an ESL teacher in Xinjiang, I found many Uyghur restaurants served this delicious deep-fried mushrooms appetizer comprised of oyster mushrooms ripped apart into small strips, breaded with a cumin and chili powder batter, and fried to a delicious crisp. It wasn't the healthiest thing in the world but it sure was delicious! The Mandarin name is 干炸蘑菇 (gan zha mo gu - Dry-fried mushrooms).

I just went to a new vegan restaurant in my neighborhood and had their fried chicken sandwich which was delicious, but was missing the crunchy texture. This makes me want to try my hand at making this. Thanks for sharing Emmy :)
I just tried "Gardien" vegan Nashville Hot chicken tenders last week (frozen product from the grocery store) I brushed them with extra virgin olive oil and baked for 20 minutes...They were really crunchy and crispy and also delicious! It almost scared me how much it could've passed for real (possibly cheap quality) chicken.
Gardien makes plain chicken tenders too if you can't tolerate spicy food.

I’ve tried a variety of Gardein’s products and they’re pretty good. (Especially their Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick’n...yum) but I have yet to try the ones you’re referring to. In Italy we have a similar mushroom that we call “elephant’s ears” and it is DELICIOUS! I don’t particularly like mushrooms but those are heavenly! We eat it fried like milanese chicken 😍

Chicken of the woods mushrooms are good cooked almost any way. Just make sure you don't pick one off a yew tree or another poisonous plant.

They are a popular nootropic supplement, but their texture is really where they shine! Similar to shellfish, I make them into crab cakes! Or you can soak them in some Sherry and put them on the grill.

Be careful as to which mushrooms you pick though - it is very easy to pick a poisonous mushroom if you don't know your mushrooms.

The fowl that chickens were domesticated from came from forests in Asia. I think the were called Red Jungle Fowl.
They are originally jungle animals.
@Alec Eleby We've done such a number on their original bodies and capabilities that they'd never last in the jungle. Their wild ancestors could fly, good luck finding a domestic hen that can do that.
