Great content, thank you. I'm always learning something new about TWS from your videos. The TWS charts are really very outdated, especially when it comes to zooming. What I also miss is a possibility to preset an amount of money for stock trading, for which TWS calculates the number of shares automatically. Therefore I´m afraid I need to dive deeper into the API and write my own trading helper tool.
Thank You very much for this very informative video. I wanted to ask you if it is possible to only trade the currency conversion (so not the CFD's) but with some leverage ? Thank You very much
Thanks, do you have any idea for position sizing? If i want to make 1% risk of my account on every position? How can I calculatet easily like in TradingView just put the stop first and add the %.
Hi, thanks for the content you shared. I'll ask you a question: is it possible to open 2 opposite positions on the same currency pair at the same time (for example long + short on eurusd)? Thanks in advance
Nice Work, videos are so informative. I just want to place a simple stop loss at a specific dollar amount that works for all open orders even if added separately. Is that possible? I'm day trading options.
There is no way to add a single order that can act as a stop loss for multiple positions or orders. Each position or parent order must have it's own stop order associated with it.
Hi! Thanks for the video. Is it possible place an order on the chart and then click where the stop should be on the chart, and have the position size automatically calculated based on some set percentage of account value?
Thanks. This functionality is not natively supported in TWS. Something similar to it exists in TradingView. I showed it in this video: ruclips.net/video/lwUTz1nnqvE/видео.htmlsi=afiWKWP5RGhOJxte&t=607
On the Meta trader 4 platform . You can just buy and sell and simply close your position at anytime . As well as modify your trades as you go. Does interactive brokers platform make it as easy as that?
Yes, I’ve been having trouble really understanding the platform . When I place trades I don’t see the option to close the trade and I think that I have to buy or sell the shares back that I’m currently trading. This has left me to believe that I place new orders and have multiple trades open. One thing I’m trying to really understand is , how do I know exactly how much money I’m risking in each trade ? I see the QTY button and I think it only goes as low as 1 and as high as you can afford ? This QTY amount is not amount shares but actually dollar figure , is that correct ? If that is correct , how do I understand bankroll risk per trade ? For example , if I have 300$ in my bank roll , how do I know I’ll onky risk loosing 50$ ?
This is a warning indicating that there is a minimum quote quantity for the order book. It is still possible to submit an order with lower quantity and it will be considered an odd lot order. Odd lot order means your order does not get priority and you will probably need to pay the spread or wait for the market to move more in order to get filled.
Hi Varillo, I like your Forex setup but I have a problem to insert your "Quoteboard" window in a new TAB. Cannt find it in the window library. May be it is so because I am using Lynxbroker for my IBKR/TWS software. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi! you should recommend do trading with USD.EUR Cash? or with USD-EUR CFD? I'dont understand the differences, only know that CFD it's a derivate contract, but I don't if I need to pay a fee to keep open the contract. I want to do swing trading, so I will work with 4h and D timeframe thanks
I have never traded with CFDs before so I don't know sorry! I would stick with the cash or leveraged cash. You could also have a look at the CFDs to see what the liquidity looks like, I think there are better markets with more price inefficiencies.
@@VerrilloTrading thank you for your reply. It is the first time I use IBKR and I am going to trade Forex, and I am facing the difficulty of how to calculate the stop loss of the trades. Would you have an example of how to calculate the stop loss for USD.EUR in leveraged forex?
I have placed currency conversion orders on the Client Portal so yes it is possible. Simply bring up the FX pair you want to trade and place an order like you would any other security.
CFDs are trading vehicles that are based on the price of the underlying FX pair or commodity. It's a contract offered by a broker to trade a specific market. I have only seen people trade those in Europe, not in North America. IDEALPRO is the default exchange that is used in IBKR to perform FX currency conversion as well as leveraged spot currency trading.
In trading Options, if there is a Take Profit and Stop Loss on 1 Contract, and I want to add 1 more contract, TWS does not allow me to Add more positions of the same Options Contract Strike Price. They say I have to remove the Stop Loss before adding more of the same Contract. Why? How do I get around this?
I have heard of other users mentioning this before. I will need to look into it and get back to you. I have documented it and I will put out a posting in the future that relates to this when I have studied it.
Hello Verrillo. I have an unrelated question, but one you may know. In futures after hours trading with IBKR in trading view my stop loss never activates? even when I place a limit order above or below the price to protect my position it still does not activate. Have you any thoughts to why? thanks.
I'm really not sure about Tradingview since this is a relatively new implementation. If you are using Tradingview to trade your IBKR account, there could be an issue with that. One thing I do know is that IBKR doesn't do well with Stop type orders in after hours for certain markets. They force you to use a Stop-Limit which is recommended. Just set a large offset between the Stop Price and the Limit Price to reduce the probability of the order not being filled. For a futures contract, there should be no issue using a regular Stop Order even in after hours. On the CME all Stop orders are actually Stop-Limit orders, but with a really wide offset.
Hi Sam Champlain did you get an answer to this? I also asked Chris this in another thread. I also have to specify "outside RTH" every time I try to put a SL outside of NY RTH, even if futures trade 23/6. If I drag the SL on the chart, it becomes ineffective and the price just slices through the stop. So was this an IBKR thing and how to fix it?

What are the requirements to enable forex trading at IBKR? I didn’t fulfill the requirements, even if I trade there since 3 years and have also ~40k USD in there.
I am not sure of the requirement to enable the leveraged forex trading permissions. What you can try is changing some of the parameters that are giving you an error.
The issue I found with the scale fields and a few other features is that they only work for certain order types and configurations. For example if you switch the offset type to percentage, or use a different target order type, the Scale Fields may not appear. This is an unfortunate limitation.
Hi, so far havent seen anybody better than you once talking/explaining about IBKR platform. Seen many of your videos and learned a lot., thank you for that!!!!! So far have an issue with conditional orders for options. I.e: I set a condition to buy a 1 call contract of SPY if (SPY underline) will hit certain price. Since i do not know at what price contract will be I am setting ir as a market order. So my order filles at a price X once underline hit my condition. Since my filled price is X I do not know what price I need to set as a profit and I cant automate the whole process. I was trying to place a certain % as a profit target, but for some reason I cant. Is it possible? Or is there any other way how to set a profit target on the proces above to be fully automated? Would appreciate your help on this matter.
Yes this is a problem and you will have to make a compromise in some way. One way is you could enter the trade with the order condition and then add the bracket order later. You could alert yourself to when the trade a triggered and then use the mobile app or the desktop app to add the bracket to your position. The other option will be to try using the Apply Offset to Parent feature for the attached orders but that is only supported when using an AMT offset. It will not work if you set a % based offset. What this will do is when your parent order is filled, it will move the prices of the attached orders to be the offset you configured away from the parent order fill price. The Apply Offset To Parent feature is configured in the bracket order settings, as shown in the above video and it only works with certain order types and configurations. The advantage of that feature is if you use a market order as the primary entry order (which you should not), it can adjust your attached orders when the parent order is filled. If you wanted to automate this entire process it would first require some knowledge about options pricing formulas, that way you could get a reasonable estimate for what the option will be priced at when the underlying achieves the price. This might be useful for knowing how far away to place targets and stop losses. Let me know if the first two methods work for you.
@@VerrilloTrading thanks a lot. will try both methods to see how it will work. (yes and I definately need more knowledge about option formulas as for now I am far from reasonable estimates).
It is not due to being non-professional. Sometimes IBKR has questionnaires you need to complete in order to active certain trading permissions. You could reach out to their support for any issues like that. It might also be possible that leveraged Forex is not available for your account, the account needs to be a margin account.
Good question, I think if you open the portfolio from the New Window option, you can then add in other windows beside it. It results in something similar to the monitor. Either I did it that way or I added one of the windows that shows the trade orders, and the portfolio tab was an option that could be added in afterwards.
Hello. As mentioned in the video and in one of the other comments, The scale fields are not supported with every single configuration in the bracket order configurations.
