    This is crazy! I'm from South Jersey and when I learned how to skate as a teen just south of Camden this was what I learned. Now that I'm back into skating here in the DMV I have been trying to adapt to a more dance style. It has been a fun challenge but switching styles is hard.

    I got to disagree Camden London would make more sense. Fast backwards is a UK style in my opinion, all over the UK people are skating backwards alot faster and with more swagger. Really enjoy your content thanks for sharing.

    • @Dunbeezytv
      @Dunbeezytv  2 года назад

      If you’re from the UK you’d feel that way but looking at the world and the styles as well as the technique that goes into fast backwards you wouldn’t say that. There’s a Chinese fast backwards you just ain’t seen it because they do it in China. Plus the United States transmits culture to the world. We transmitted breakdancing to Europe. We made trap and Chicago drill and the UK created grime. Culturally that’s unsupported. Ash Farenheit visited Sk8athon in Atlanta. The United States doesn’t follow world art trends even in the mainstream. However, a true historian will tell you fast backwards around the world same same but different. You gotta wait for the whole breakdown to get the story, or go to China and see for yourself.

      Greetings Dunbeezy, thank you for all the videos you made on US skate culture, it's been my go-to resource for the past couple of years so I'm very grateful you took the time to compile all the information here.
      Just one point about UK 'fast backwards' skating culture. This was something I was very interested in when I became more competent in roller skating. While I feel some of the backwards speedskate culture may have been influenced by fast backwards techniques (for example what we term as 'shuffling' is very similar from what I saw recently in Detroit), I can definitely say that the backwards speedskating culture has existed for at least a few decades now at least, even from as far back as the 80s. We wear ice hockey converts, which is unique only to the UK, and take a lot of techniques from ice hockey.There is also a diverse range of stopping techniques that is not seen outside of London and UK that is derived from ice and roller hockey, even new original techniques are being created by the new generation. Being that we have not had the luxury of developing consistently an indoor rink culture due to limited access, our fast backwards techniques is way more aggressive and speed oriented, as most of it is practiced outdoors on concrete and tarmac. This is a big reason why ice hockey (maybe even artistic ice skating come to think it) was more likely the main influence on the roller skate culture here, as the fast backwards you guys have over there would not be as effective on outdoor rough surfaces for optimum speed. People also skate at top speed backwards either clockwise or anticlockwise (some can do both), and dependent on their dominant direction, different skating technique is used when for different directions. Even the form is very very different from fast backwards.
      Rhythm skating has been an import into the UK for a while via various generations of skaters such as Skate Lisa, Stormskater and the NC crew, though it will continue to be seen as a US skate style, predominantly developed in the black communities. In London, you will see a lot of people only learn the chop and shuffle for the first few years, ie backwards speedskating, before even learning rhythm skate techniques.
      Anyway, I hope that gives more insight into the backwards speedskating culture here in the UK. Hope you get to experience it one day!!

      Philly fast backwards and UK skating backwards are not the same at all. The UK don’t even skate the same way backwards as fast backwards skaters and the situation when to skate backwards is different. The US does fast backwards to a beat and follows that rhythm and rides the wall the UK doesn’t doesn’t do that and they call it something else like chopping or something like that.
