    I love my SDS 100 scanner. Works great on Simulcast systems. Have the BCD996P2, but my county (Charlotte County Florida) made changes, and the reception was horrible. The SDS100 solved that issue. Loud and clear now. Best scanner purchase I've ever made.

    Yes, the Uniden SDS-100 is the best scanner
    I have ever had, in my 50 years of having them. Yes, it is more complicated to listen
    these days than back then, but technology
    changes all the time, but in over two years
    of having the SDS-100, it has remained up
    to date, and works the best. My first synthesized scanner was I think a Bearcats
    100 in 1976, and a synthesized Bearcat HH
    scanner in 1981. So together withthe accessories and programming, I spent about
    $1000.00, for using it. Being an amateur
    Radio Operator, I have spent a lot more on
    some of that equipment, now being licensed
    for almost 60 years. Ray W2CH

    I'm currently hesitating between the BCD436HP and TRX-1, I have preference for the TRX-1 since I'm a long-time GRECOM user (GRE PSR-500) but two things that I have read on the web are holding me back :
    1. Apparently the output volume on TRX-1 is *not* a physical knob, you have to set it using the push buttons
    2. The TRX-1 does not monitor NXDN control channels. I know I have NXDN systems using fixed CC frequencies in my area so I'm not sure what the implications of that are... If I monitor a group on this system, will I miss conversations when it moves (trunking) to another frequency?
    Could you please give confirm/deny these issues and give me your opinion? Thank you very much in advance!

    MY TRX-1 has few problems with simulcast, particularly when attenuation is used so that you only hear the closest tower (we have 11 in the county). It depends upon the timing of the individual system and proximity to the tower.

    • @Zipscanners1

    I had a gre psr-800 and still have a pro-18. Where I live in NW KS the 800 could decipher all private channels and pro-18 still does about half on good days. Bought a home Patrol and it couldn't compete at all with the other two. Never upgraded to HP2 so maybe that would have helped it. I was thinking about purchasing the sds100 until what u said at the end. Everything but encrypted frequencies... none of the scanners could decipher the digitally encrypted secure channel rarely used but that home patrol couldn't get any private channels. Will the sds100?

    • @Zipscanners1

      @@Zipscanners1 I'm not to privy on the new object defined scanning. I'm not sure how a private channel and a dispatch channel differ. Might be a matter of processing power to desirable private channels. There are only 2 encrypted channels here. A secure law enforcement channel and the emt/hospital channel. I could record encrypted transmissions and use the discriminator output along with unitrunker to hear this but as long as it took me it wasn't worth the trouble lol. I was just wondering if I could hear the private channels, not the secure ones. My birthday is next month and if I take a chance on the sds I'll be given you guys a call

    • @Integr8d
      @Integr8d 2 года назад +1

      The sds100 is an SDR. It’s not ‘scanning’ anything per se. It can see all of the baseband, within its processing bandwidth, all of the time. So it can just jump to anywhere it sees a transmission. It should also be able to record the entire baseband so you can go back to listen to other transmissions that you may have missed (processor and flash card speed limitations apply). All of the protocols that it decodes are also just done in software. I believe the trx1 is also an SDR.

      We would have loved to, but we are in the Twin Cities of Minnesota; therefore, the devices only get static besides the SDS100.

      Hi Steve, removing the batteries will not erase anything. The only way you can lose your data is by resetting the scanner or formatting the SD card.

    There aren't any police scanners here in the UK as the police use an encrypted digital system called "Airwave".

    • @Zipscanners1
      @Zipscanners1  2 года назад

      It is pointless to have a scanner in a encrypted area but usually it is just the Police Department that is encrypted. Generally, you can monitor the rest.

    I need something for my tow truck, my scanners are my money. I listen to 3 police zones and the least important zone works great on any scanner, while moving. The most important, I use a base and handheld and in the spot I sit I have to move around 1000 times to get a spot where it works and most of the time when I’m moving it won’t pick up at all, tried adding cheap BNC antenna for base and cheap antenna for handheld, these are ones I could find, I couldn’t find any over $20 but yeah couldn’t find any good ones worth af, useless. The second most important zone works ok mostly, unless you’re moving in certain areas. I’m using cheap baofeng uv 5r, but my uniden base scanner has the same issues with the same channels so I don’t know. I’m at a loss and $600 scanners are outta the question.

    I see repeated references to a 'widget' on your website that will magically tell you what scanner will work in your area. I can't find this widget. Instead, I see a form that harvests your personal information, which is obviously parsed by a human being, thus generating a back channel of communication with a sales lead. Why are you being disingenuous about the automated nature of the widget you're promoting instead of simply answering the question? Shady.
