Raquel did so much for women...i've had nothing but love for her throughout the years. She truly owned all they threw at her and remained iconic as one of the girls with her fun, strong, cheeky personality.

Através da forma como retratou personagens de mulheres fortes, conseguiu ir além do rótulo de sex symbol e tornou-se num ícone do cinema.
A estreia no cinema aconteceu como figurante nos filmes "Uma Certa Casa Suspeita" e "Carrossel de Emoções", ambos de 1964. Ela ainda fez alguns trabalhos na TV antes de assinar contrato com a 20th Century Fox, estúdio que a elevou ao status de estrela.
Ela foi um sex symbol na indústria cinematográfica, brilhou em filmes famosos da década de 60 e 70 e deixou um legado no meio artístico.
A revista "Variety" lembra que Raquel Welch foi uma das primeiras mulheres a interpretar um papel principal - e não numa perscpetiva romântica - num filme ‘western’, em “Hannie Caulder” (1973), de Burt Kennedy, e que terá sido uma das inspirações para Quentin Tarantino fazer “Kill Bill” (2003).
Para se ter ideia, Raquel ficou em terceiro lugar na lista das "100 estrelas mais sexies do século 20" da revista "Playboy", publicada em 1998.
De acordo com a People With Money, Raquel Welch é a atriz mais bem paga no mundo. Ela faturou $82 milhões entre janeiro de 2022 e janeiro de 2023, quase $50 milhões de vantagem à frente da sua rival mais próxima.
Natural de Chicago, nos EUA, ela foi revelada nos filmes "Viagem Fantástica" e "Mil séculos antes de Cristo".
Em 1974, Raquel ganhou um Globo de Ouro por "Os três mosqueteiros" e foi indicada novamente ao prêmio em 1987 por "Direito de morrer".
Filha de um engenheiro aeronáutico boliviano que se mudou para os Estados Unidos e uma americana, Raquel Welch nasceu em Chicago em 1940 e cresceu na Califórnia, onde estudou dança clássica, ganhou concursos de beleza para adolescentes e mais tarde se tornou uma apresentadora local de meteorologia.
Seu caminho na indústria de entretenimento começou ao lado de Elvis Presley com um pequeno papel em Carrossel de emoções (1964). Mais tarde ela ganhou participações de destaque, pavimentando seu rumo ao estrelato no filme Viagem fantástica (1966), dirigido por Richard Fleischer.
Sua carreira decolou com a aventura pré-histórica Mil séculos antes de Cristo (1966). A imagem de Welch e seu icônico biquíni fortaleceu seu status de símbolo sexual em uma produção cujo pôster promocional entrou para a história do cinema.

A atriz foi casada em quatro ocasiões. Com o publicistário James Welch, entre 1959 e 1964; o produtor Patrick Curtis, que ajudou a promover sua carreira, entre 1967 e 1973; o também produtor André Weinfeld, entre 1980 e 1990; e Richard Palmer, com quem foi casada entre 1999 e 2004. Ela deixa dois filhos.
Raquel Welch comentou algumas vezes sobre os sentimentos contraditórios que nutria em relação à própria figura sexual. Apesar de gostar da atenção dada ao corpo, ela também acreditava que a impressão era limitante, a impedindo de ser escalada a todos os papeis que gostaria de interpretar.
Esse cenário explica porque ela é uma das únidas mulheres a ser capa da revista americana Playboy sem exibir o corpo nu no ensaio principal.
