Hey brother, they loved black music. Lux would hit all the thrift stores and record shops in the 80's and scoop up all the great 45's from a lot of black artists. You're in good company.
Saw The Cramps twice Live on Their Date With Elvis Tour. Manchester Apollo/Victoria Hall Hanley 1986....'Now everybody's heard....about the bird'. Absolutely Brilliant. What a great live band, Poison Ivy Is one of the most underrated female guitar players ever. It's not easy to keep that great rhytym and that great rockn roll feeling for a full show
How 'bout just underrated punkabilly (or whatever you wanta call it) performers - for me, that sez it better. 'Course, for me, Ivy is, basically, a goddess in all ways.
Poison Ivy is not an underrated female guitar player. She may be considered an underrated guitar player, however, those who tend to sexualize would often place her in their top 10 females.
Very cool! Ivy was a trailblazer for all of us Rockin’ women who came up after. Total Icon. Lux and Ivy were the King and Queen. Did they ever get nominated for the RnR HOF? If not, they should be. RIP Lux, and I hope Ivy is living in peace and love. ❤️
This is probably the best live version I’ve seen of ‘Mad Daddy’ and excellent visual and audio quality! I recently heard an interview with Lux and Ivy. ‘Mad Daddy’ was actually inspired by a radio DJ in Cleveland named Pete Myers who went by Pete ‘Mad Daddy’ Myers. Lux loved the radio show he put on back in the 50’s (late 50’s I believe). Thank you so much for sharing this. RIP Lux and much love to Ivy, the Queen of rock n’ roll! 🌹
I saw The Cramps a number of times over the years but the best shows were at The Hootenanny In Irvine Ca. in 1995, 1998 (both days), and 2004 (10 year Reunion Show). Saw them in the 80's at the Hollywood Palace, The Palladium, Universal Amphitheater and in the 90's a couple times at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana. All great shows. Bring back The Hootenanny - it's been nine years since the last one in 2013! Sadly missed!
Lux and Ivy are just blistering. If anyone has not seen the concert they did for a mental hospital, I highly recommend it. Some of the best footage of this amazing idea by this incredible band.
Montreal Spectrum in 1988, Screaming Blue Messiahs opened. Unbelievable show with Lux down to just tiny leopard skin undies and pumps, swallowing the mic and soaked in red wine. One of the best rock spectacles of my many years seeing live music. May he rock on wherever he is now...
As someone who saw them waaay back, several times, with Bryan Gregory, I can say that this still, rather astoundingly, kicks ass. And it's just the opener - they haven't entirely settled into their groove/ferocity yet - my fave from this show is the Caveman/Let's Get F'd Up footage from TheManus02 - I'm addicted to it
Still wonderful. I am lying here trying to pull a piece of broken glass out of my foot arch and using The Cramps as my anesthetic, and am in a good mood!
That gave me flashbacks of something I'd totally forgot about. When I was very young I Was walking barefoot on a beach on the East coast of England, (and you guessed it) accidently walked on a broken bottle. Still have the scar to show for it.
@Toby Harris Brian Setzer is one of the best guitarists out there, not only in rockabilly, but in other genres too. That guy is an insanely good guitarist with a crazy amount of ability and range.
Saw them on their last night at Hammersmith Palais in '84 - the best gig I have been to. Lux was wonderful! I hope he's truly happy wherever he is. God bless Ivy also!
Such a loss. I've been privileged to see the band several times, in Orange County CA and the best show at SDSU in San Diego, an open air amphitheater and up close and personal. Miss their kicking ass and taking names.

Yep, AM radio personality Pete Myers joined New York’s 1010 WINS around that time, to do an adult MOR show. About 1961, WINS flipped to rock ‘n’ roll, and Myers reverted to his “Mad Daddy” personna, and was fantastic. He was in competition with Murray the K, Cousin Bruce Morrow, Scott Muni and B. Easy on Johnny and June. That was purty tight love to die within months of each other.
