He's honest and completely up front about the method behind his show's madness here, whereas with others where he's not comfortable or if he's worried his humor will never get across, he'll default to over-the-top to make the most of his wasted time.

I think Benson just wings it, hoping that the weed, talent and chemistry all work out together to create a more informal interview that feels natural. It doesn't always work and sometimes he comes off a bit unorganized and unprofessional, but I do like the format and see people put up some defenses or drop them all because of the reefer.
