- Folding Birdy GT purchased in Singapore.
Kitted with Schwalbe Black Jack MTB tyres and hydraulic disc brakes, and 10-speeds Sram derailleur, the Birdy GT handles gravel and light off-road paths well.

Very informative video.
I’ve seen an aftermarket 2 wheel easy wheel add on. I think that’s probably the best thing to use. Otherwise this design is better for the bus. The only problem i have with a bus is that they expect you to carry a folding bike through the front door rather than the back like baby carriages and wheel chairs. Which doesn’t make sense.
Thank you for the tutorial. Better than MV video
Very nice 😉👍
The Birdy is a beautiful small lightweight performance bike that transforms in an unstable bulky mess. 😂😂😂 But I always enjoy watching them unfolded, I think it's simply a gorgeous bike
true... I hate to fold my birdy... maybe I should install easy wheels for it
It is an unstable bulky mess when folded haha I wish it had a lock so that the frame doesn’t unfold if it’s not slanted 🥲
@@nowhereman5956 it's a difficult bike to fold. To make the situation worst, it's difficult to push too. It's definitely not a portable bike as compared to other foldies.
@@ma-kugan4998 already switched to Brompton...
Nice video i learn something
I really hate how the front fork smashes into the rear derailleur when its folded
Hi, I just got a birdy GT. After I folded the bike, I am unable to push and roll the bike because the wheel is touching the frame. may I ask how to resolve it?
Hey! I think maybe the wheel wasn’t locked in properly? :) that’s what we experienced before as well
I have the same problem when I upgraded to 20 inch wheels. If you want to fold and roll you need to stick to the stock 18 inch wheels
Pricey are hard to fold.... lol Travelo Cheaper and much easier to fold. I find the suspension an extra cost to singapore urban terrain riding. Who would do MTB jumps on this folding bike??
GOOD
The folding is not refine. Folded bike looks awful and not elegant at all. Look like you had a hard time rolling it in folded mode. Bike doesn’t look stable at all in folded mode. Anytime will topple. It’s a nice bike but I think the folding is bad. No thanks
One main factor for a folding bike is to be able to walk comfortably while pushing. Seems to me the posture when pushing is so awkward. Can’t imagine rolling the bike at mrt station having to bend and walk like an old man. Don’t think the bike is suitable for long roll. More suitable for folding and putting into car trunk. That defeats the meaning of real mobility if I still need a vehicle to transport the bike everywhere. Brompton still win hands down.
I think it’d be easier to roll as long as the bike seat is adjusted properly after it’s folded. We usually fold and put it in the car just cause the frame doesn’t have a lock and the “folded” state tends to fall out of the bike isn’t slanted while folded 🥲
@@meitan5767 However one thing for sure. the ride is fantastic. I tried one and I should say it is much more comfortable than brompton. :) I guessed there is always a trade-off. Birdy does have its strength when comes to performance.
@@LittleHoneyMan think it depends on the objective. Some people wants Portability and mobility, while others want better rolling speed. There's really no right or wrong bike. I wanted mobility so sold mine for a Brompton. The downside is I lost the rolling speed on Brompton but that's not my objective to own a foldie. If I wanted speed then I would bought a Gravel bike.
@@ma-kugan4998 you mean road bike😄
@@inxlee I sold my birdy and i bought a Brompton. It's a lot easier to take public transport with Brompton.
That's an awkward position to push the bike. With both wheels that are not in parallel to each other makes it difficult to push isn't it? Afterall Birdy is not light in weight too. Hmm... if Portability is important then Birdy is not a choice at all.
The folding process doesn't seem that simple i.e. some level of strength is required and the motion is not smooth. The rolling while in folded mode also seems a bit unstable.
Based on our understanding, it's also because we're shorter (5" feet) so lifting the bike by the handle stand to manoeuvre the wheel takes more strength since we can't lift the stand too high (short hands). :)
Whereas rolling the bike while in folded mode will always seem "unstable" since a lot of folding bikes will require us to lean the bike onto one side because usually only one side of the wheel is used for rolling. There is an option to purchase a "trolley" (attachment on the back wheel) for ease of rolling :)
Also we did the folding/unfolding motions slowly in this video, which made it look like it required a lot of effort, is because the common issue we had with other videos showing the process was too fast for us to grasp and tend to miss out key points. :)
Thanks for your comment!
dun seem easy to fold for ladies
also seem hard to move around in it's folded state
I think it’d be easier to fold if we were taller haha we’re both under 155cm so lifting the bike to get the wheels into the frame was tougher for us since we’d need to lift our arms higher. Our friend helped us fold it and it was easier cause she was taller
@Mei Tan i think standing on the other side to pull the wheel towards u instead of pushing away would be easier? Just a thought
I love 20” wheel bikes, especially folders. I looked at Birdy, but I see some obvious flaws.
1. Unnecessary front suspension. Looks like a gimmick. Less is more. That “fork” configuration seems like a needless mess. Too much going on. Can you imagine trying to repair that thing if you were far from home? No local bike shop would know how to repair it. You”d have to carry too many tools to do it yourself.
2. Folding is too complicated. Yep, it’s not a 16” wheel like a Brompton designed for urban commuters who need to transition quickly and smoothly between riding and public transportation or carrying the bike. However, the Birdy still loses out. It’s such a complicated mess, that you’d really only fold it when you absolutely could not avoid it. Certainly not good for an urban commuter who would routinely have to golf and unfold.
3. Rolling while folded. Messy, inefficient, awkward. Nuff said.
Birdy should remember to “keep it simple, stupid”(KISS) when designing their product. An over-engineered mess just to differentiate themselves in the market place usually ends up as a con, not a pro for the consumer.
I think I”ll pass on a Birdy.
If anybody has found a truly great 20” wheel folder ideal for travel, please drop suggestions here.
Thanks.
I really like the look of this bike in ride mode but it really doesn't look easy to fold, stable or good in folded position, ugly in fact and that's a shame.
why the crazy music? Ruins the video. Good job on fold though.
pacifik made in......?
