OMG, I never thought I'd live to hear Debussy himself playing this piece. I must say, I've been playing it for about 50 years but never was able to play it as fast as he did. Oh well.

The main thing is: did you enjoy the piece playing it.
After all, this recording is a snapshot in time. Debussy may have played slower tempi at other times. Secondly, I understand that someone restored an old piano to play the roll on, and made the modern digital recording from it. But who knows if they got it right. It is still an old mechanism they tinkered with. Maybe the machine used to run a bit slower in the past.

@@micaelat3734 I've always loved playing it. It's been one of my favorite pieces and the first one I play when I'm trying to revive my repertoire. I once performed The Children's Corner to a good-sized audience. Boy was I nervous! But it went well once I got into the music and forgot myself.

I remember that I listened to Jimbo's Lullaby in Rio in 1991 during the musical analysis test for my admission to organ graduation at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. On the other hand I have a recording with Robert Casadesus as performer.

Everyone here needs to learn more about the pianola system - there are no directions as to what the speed the roll should be set to. It’s completely to the discretion of the operator. ALL of these rolls are the wrong tempo. Also, old piano rolls have an issue where they change tempo over time, it seems these recordings are getting gradually faster.

@@sashh9997 I take issue with this perspective. In the best works of art, one can find both the meaning the composer intentionally imbued in the work, as well as subjective meaning and value that's more personal to one's self. The art of interpreting music is as rich and personal as the art of writing the notes. Not, of course, that the writer's own perspective isn't important- it clearly is- but we shouldn't forget that art is highly personal and subjective, and that a good artist cannot anticipate all the ways in which their art will relate to people.
