- The Broadway Cast of The Lion King took a break between shows on June 28th and took over a NEW YORK CITY subway car to give riders a little surprise.

As a 90’s child and the movie coming out when I was 9 years old this just took me back and was complete nostalgia. This would have been amazing to witness! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was 12 when this came out, and I have the same love and nostalgia for it. This is the Disney movie of our generation, not to mention arguably the best Disney movie ever. When I hear that first note, it's like, "All 90's kids, please rise for your pledge of allegiance."

You have to understand, musical acts on NYC subways are pretty common. Broadway performances definitely aren't, but subway artists are actually pretty good. They have to be because they always ask for money at the end, which is what I suspect a lot of the passengers were expecting. Us New Yorkers also like our quiet time on the train, however short a ride it is, and hate when it's interrupted, no matter what it is. We perfected the art of pretending we're either asleep or just don't see you.
That said, if I'd been there I would've been singing right along with them! And then pretended I was asleep, lol.
Mets78 thanks very much I truly agree with what you said being a New Yorker (especially how much we pay for transportation). Also I saw some people with their phones in their hands recording as well as flashes going off from some pictures being taken. I also saw some people at the end the performance give some of the performers high fives. So just because they were not "crying" doesn't mean they were ungrateful. People need to stop ASSuming (and I emphasize the word ass everyone reacts differently) they did not enjoy the performance.

You can't expect everyone else to be in a good enough mood to enjoy this. People probably coming home from a stressful day at work tired and over it. Maybe someone's family member just died... maybe someone just had bad news from the doctor. Its ok if people don't want to get involved.

When my grandma was alive we went to the broadway lion king. It was so fun watching them do this song and feel like you were really in the movie. I miss my grandma and every time I watch the lion king I think of that time we went to go and see it and how much fun it was for all of us grandkids.

Im a New yorker and stuff like this happens in the train a lot, like dancers or musicians just randomly getting on and doing their thing, so people are used to it. That's why they're not acting too excited. But a lot of people are still impressed though, they just don't show it

Usually happens on the Lexington Ave lines(read 4,5,6). The beggars show up on the west side and crosstown lines(read 1,2,3, N,R, Q).
Or try the Stardust Diner on 50th at 7th Ave. All the waitstaff are trying to get onto Broadway, and have shows every 20 mins or so.

What a fantastic experience for actors singers and the passengers on that commute to see, feel, the emotions of that sung. They will all have memories to tell others about what happened while on the subway that day. I wish I could have had a joyous occasion to enjoy. Listen, until you ride the subway, DAILY, to and from work, and you hear this on your commute, you can't appreciate the lulling SILENCE of going home (or to work) and occasional, yet symmetrical wheel sound against the rail. THAT is art, and THAT is appreciated.
