Thanks for this video! It helped me getting the terminals out of the plug as shown @2:23 without damaging anything

Are the knock sensors able to be unpinned and repinned? On 1uzfe the single pin ones

You do it good and fast. I was dealing with the green water temp plug today and couldn’t put the terminals back in. I really don’t know why. After trying a few times I even broke a terminal because it couldn’t get in from the back so I tried from the front. A mess. So i used new terminals but they aren’e exactly the same size and don’t want to get in. I’ll try again tomorrow. FYI the connector has been put together in a wrong way before and probably the plastic was already ruined. The 2 wings won’t slide in their plastic sites.

Good little tip. Any chance you could do a vid on Knock sensor wiring ? Does the shielding wire earth to the ECU ?

I've got the kind you show with the white locking piece to be pulled out. It's not clear to me which way you're levering to unlock. I tried with a specialized tool for this and levering up or down didn't make any difference, but the interior of the connector was so brittle it just crumbled.
The replacement connectors I bought are apparently wrong because the terminals won't slide in.

What do you do if the wire is broken off at the connector so you can't pull the wire

I either use my long nose pliers onto the remaining wire or push the terminal from the front.

Hey Kalvin I’m doing a 1uz swap into my s13, the motor is out of a 93 sc400 and I already changed the oil pan and filter, I have a 92 ls400 ecu and a 93 ls400 harness, is it possible to make the 93 harness work with the 92 ecu ?

@@CartuneNZ Yes, but videos like this are important, Kelvin. I am currently doing a timing belt/water pump job on my 97 Celica, and the alternator connector crumbled into dust, the instant I laid a finger on it. I got a new connector, but will have to hook it up to the wires like in this video. Even though I did all 8 injector connectors on my 1UZ, 4 years ago, I needed to review the procedure...because 4 years is enough time to forget.
Thank you for posting this. =)

Good advice on the not pulling the wire before trying to lever the locking tab. I normally try and push the wire in as far as I can before trying to lever the locking tab so there is no tension on the locking tab.
One other thing you might want to add is with really old harnesses wiggle the wire in and out cause sometimes the grommets weld themselves to the plastic lol

Love your videos! Very informative, I have recently picked up a 2000 hilux 1KZ Turbo. I have wired up 90% of the engine but some plugs I am unaware of where they connect to. Any videos on wiring up a 1kz motor?
    Cheers

I have chosen to focus on the UZ engines so all the KZ stuff has been put aside. They are pretty simple to wire up though. Cheers Kelvin

You know what dude, you would have a million views if you just made a video of how to actually pull these goddam connectors apart. Im not even talking about the pins, just the two main connector parts. Its always such an insane hassle and they’re all different.
