Joan Jett has been a favorite of mine for decades. She really rocked it in the 80s and was just totally cool.
I never was a fan of the ballad singers and like today, the faux tough but, just more show then real talent.
I liked the women who were strong and confident but, did not need to be twerky and nasty like today or wishy washy like before the 80s.
Women like Heart, Blondie, or A. Morrisette in the 90s. And Joan was queen of them all.
Tough with her black leather, leading her band and playing guitar she also showed a sense of humor.
Just awesome.

Need to also say that as a tail end boomer I regret many of my generation's missteps - especially in the world of economics and government and our starting and loving pie fights with the other side. We realy were not cut out for that like our parents and grandparents who did such a great job building up the country and making life good for all.
But, in one area we excelled was in the arts.
We had the best comedians (Robin Williams), the best television (Cheers, Seinfield), movies (Ferris Bullier), ect. ect. But, in music we kicked it out of the orbit. Joplin, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Clash, Blondie, Eurythmics, Cars, on and on. And Joan was one of our golden ones. We kicked with female singers and rockers. No one in the 80s or 90s - or even now could hold a candle to Joan.
I remember a few years ago a super bowl pre game show had Millie Cyrus with Joan and she tried to be like Joan. Sad imitation. I left after 5 minutes. No one can be Joan - especially those pretenders of today. You need real talent and your own image, your own self.
Yeah, we really kick it with our music.
