It's difficult to explain, but if for example Iran and Russia would start getting into an alliance, they would overall become more powerful. That would have implications for the region and Iran might be able to increase pressure on other countries that would impact trade. If they would take out Iran, Iran is unable to pressure other countries and the stability in the region would increase. At the end of the day it would benefit everyone including Iran itself.
