Regenerative Grazing for Dairy - Groundswell 2023

Regenerative grazing can help to build topsoil, increase soil carbon content and improve diversity. Through the establishment of healthy and diverse pastures, risks such as droughts and floods can be mitigated against. Regenerative grazing for dairy systems needs careful management due to production requirements. This panel discussion will investigate how dairy farmers are managing regenerative grazing in their systems, what challenges they have had to deal with as well as their top tips for other farms looking to take the leap. The farmers are part of the Arla Regenerative Pilot Programme, a farmer-led project working to provide insights and learnings to develop and scale regenerative dairy.

Lovely informed comments expressed with the same humility coach Siobhan and her mentor Ian Mitchell Innes taught me over the last 5 years. As an all sheep operation with zero cultivation for 4 decades, context is different but the principals are the same. Reconfiguring and minimizing the language are key to regenerating the culture that is Agri. 85% of the business is retaining rainfall that the the Planned Recovery Chart shows the annual animal grazing days per paddock per mm. Simplicity follows this key chart to the Next Level Grazing to optimize paddock arrival and departure. By 'Upping' your soil depth this increases as you change your behaviour to 'fertilizing' from 'fertilizer', the same for 'delayed' instead of 'deferred' strike the balance for livestock while increasing soil depth that reduces drought costs. Diversity grows with you both in plants and animals due to your grazing choices and, taking total responsibility for all your own actions following free to fail small trials measured against your control. Observing nature healing itself is the golden reward. With the 'unlearning' is a grieving process that a support group helps, so go easy on yourselves and keep up the great work, very impressed with your comments and observational skill, a lot of joy ahead. 😊 😊
