    This is the best video i have seen on how to operate 4 wheel drive. my dad has a 2021 gmc and doesn't know how to use the 4 wheel drive so i figured i see what i could find on RUclips, and most people don't explain real well how to operate 4x drive, and i don't know anything about driving trucks so thanks for this video.

    4 low is for pulling .. great for boat ramps or backing a heavy trailer up a hill. It is not first resort for when you get stuck. Lots of torque at the tires means lots of spinning.. not always the way out. And yes love it for going up ramps. Good advice on your video.

    Once the roads are covered in hard packed snow I put my truck in Auto and forget it until the roads are clear. If I get in deeper snow conditions or a sloped area I put the truck in 4 hi. 4 low is used for off road conditions. A good set of AT’s can make a big difference too.

    Extremely helpful video! Our family just got a new 2021 Silverado RST, and we are getting snow literally as we speak and I wanted to know the best configuration for 4WD for our truck. Haven’t driven a 4WD vehicle since our 2000 Chevy Tracker, which was an old school stick shift to engage 4 High and 4 Low.
    Keep up the great work on this Channel!! Thanks again!

    I used to have an explorer. 2002 (back when they were trucks) and when I used 4x4 auto it would slam the front drive train on when it detected rear wheel slip. 😳
    It also had that thing where if the tires wear at different intervals and develop some kind of differential it would just bang 4x4 on and off down the highway

    If feel like you have four wheel drive when in auto because it is in 4 wheel drive. The transfer case has a clutch pack that will give you 25% power up front. If it slips it adjust to a 50/50 split of power

    Driving my 2014 GMC Sierra crew cab in auto made me a believer. Saw thirty plus wrecks and two plow trucks off into a ditch in a 15 mile trip. Road was dry, then snowy, then ice. Conditions were as bad as I have seen in my 60 years of driving. Auto position is impressive on the hilly, curvy West Virginia roads. It works !

    Thx for the tutorial. I’ve driven older Chevys and Tacomas w/o Auto 4WD, and have been a bit leery of Auto, since I’m used to making my own decisions. I’ll give it a try next snow here in VA.
    Also, I use 4 Low whenever I need to drive on my lawn. Last thing I want is to spin a rear tire and tear up the grass!

    4 wheel drive only gets you stuck in the shit further out. If you cant get there in 2 wheel then wait till the road clears up. A good set of at tires (firestone destination xt's) will do just fine. My 2010 silvy drives through 13 inches of snow in 2wd with my firestones with no issues. If you cant handle it in 2 wheel then park it! I drove many miles with 2wd trucks in blizzards with 500 lbs in the bed with no issue.

    My general rule is if you can’t see the road it’s in full time 4wd. Auto is for variable conditions. I had a 2001 Silverado with auto 4wd…never liked that system. It worked well off the line….just felt sketchy at speed, would not react fast enough. I am sure the system in the new trucks is much improved 20 years later.

I also have a trail boss 2.7 turbo and I was wondering how well it would do in that type of weather. I'm currently living in Georgia however I've lived several places due to my military service. I love to fish and always wanted to try ice fishing. I do have a couple questions if you have time to answer.
    1 what is offta
    2 what is Minnesota nice all about
    3 with the trail boss do you need some kind of heater so it doesn't freeze up
    ( stupid southern question lol)

    I actually have questions on a past video where you got your new rims and tires the Trail Boss replicas. Do those stick out further than the stock tires and are you happy with the size or is there something you wish you did different. I have basically the exact same truck same color everything I put the 2 inch lift on front and the one inch back myself now I just need bigger tires / rims to complete the job. If there's anything you thought maybe you wished you would have done a little different with that setup could you give me a little insight please. Thank you

    • @TruckOwnership101
      @TruckOwnership101  3 года назад

      Initially I wished I would have found something with a little bit taller tread. But I was looking for value as well. After driving this winter on this set I have no regrets. Not sure if the offset is any different from factory, but I feel these are as out as possible without tread being beyond the wheel well. Exactly the look I want.

    • @TruckOwnership101
      @TruckOwnership101  3 года назад +1

      That doesn’t have a two speed transfer case. It uses the stock transmission to attempt a similar result. I’d be curious if it helped in the situations I referenced. Should stop spinning out in the yard and climb ramps slow. Wouldn’t have the “tractor like” power from the super low gear ratio.

  • @irvingp2325

    What about for slippery snow 4 hi or 4 low or just keep it in auto ??

    • @TruckOwnership101
      @TruckOwnership101  2 года назад +1

      I personally would use 4 auto. 4 high would be fine too, but once conditions improve you might notice some binding when making sharp turns like parking. 4 low is for when you want to pull something slow with tractor like power. (Or maybe rock crawl or something off road, idk)

    • @TruckOwnership101
      @TruckOwnership101  2 года назад +1

      Never. In my experience that’s only needed for two wheel drive or for plowing snow. 4 wheel drive synchronies the front with the back, so you don’t spin out unless you get all 4 loose.
