    Thanks for the review Tim! We created the Junglas II based on requests from many customers...dropping 2" off the blade changes the balance point of this knife significantly. As for a 1 Tool option that is an elusive target and it never fails, when you are out there you often wish you had a second option....with that said we continue to tweak our existing line and deliver new products that are tested in real world scenarios before they ever reach production. And, as always, we stand behind everything we sell....Thanks again for a great review! We appreciate your honesty and hard work!

      The 1 tool option may be elusive but if I want the ESEE version of it.....then the Junglas II is that tool. The shorter length does make it less cumbersome if forced into a combative role. Putting a 10"+ blade into the vitals of a 4 legged (or 2 legged) monster can be something that's hard to do in a tussle and usually 5 to 7" would be ideal. In addition, try leaping to and fro/in/out of a truck/Humvee or helo with the full size swinging around and you may desire this shorter version without loosing all the desired capability. This realistically gets you into that 1 tool realm considering the group of operators the Junglas was originally created for. So you get a knife that can give you the awesome Junglas grade chopping power in a shorter version that's more controllable for those finer feather stick like tasks as shown in this video but....to boot, the better handle for that chopping (w/a pronounced "hook") over the ESEE-6. Bam.....and thank you ESEE!

      That is actually the exact thing that shot in my mind: one tool option...
      And for that it is a good knife! My wife got a Esee cm6 and snapped the tip because she did stuff one should not do with an knife (semmi combat knife). After 2 weeks she had her brand new Esee cm6. Good garantie and greetings from Germany! Cheers

But it was big...when I seen this knife about a yr ago I started saving....just went to Tennessee to smokey mountain knife works and bought it....owned it about 2 weeks now.....this knife is awsome! Chops,cut,slices,and shaves. I use it in the woods as well as in my house making kindling... esee you make a good product I love the junglas 2.....someday I will buy another junglas just so I can have both....but the junglas 2 moves way better in my hand....thank esee for making such,a fine American made product...and thank you for this video it was one of the first I watched!

    I have the Junglas, 6 and 4, and I've always wanting something in between the Junglas an the 6. I think the Junglas II is a perfect middle ground of excellence and a great expansion of the ESEE line. It fits absolutely perfectly between the 6 and Junglas-they nailed this one. I've had the 6 be too small the Junglas be too much-so for my use, I love it.

    The Junglas II is a modern HB camp knife. It is a heavy duty jack of all trades. Teamed up with a saw and a 4 " or 5" belt knife, you are well equipped for just about any cutting task.

    5:00 Where does it fit? I picked up the Junglass II, I also have a E4, 5 & 6.. all are beat hard.
    It fits at the top for me becuase I'll actually carry it.
    It can do everything the 6 can do and more while weighing just a few ounces more than the 5.
    It adequately replaces an axe for less weight and more flexibility/capability.
    It's a perfect option for a rural/wilderness truck/atv knife and get-home-bag.
    For me, the Junglass II is a legit can-do-all (easily) wilderness "survival" knife, the 6 is a stand-alone camp/day hike option, the 5 is a urban get-home knife.

    I love my original junglas and my #6 ---if ESSE would add a finger choil to the junglas 2 it would be an AWESOME option. One of my biggest reasons for buying the 6 was the choil. It is just a good idea for a knife that size...

    I've been applying for the television series "Alone" now for awhile, and I think that the esee junglas 2 may be my choice for a knife if I am ever fortunate enough to be selected. They have a 10" blade maximum for knife choices, and with that considered, the junglas 2 would be a good choice for an all around knife that is big and strong enough to get some heavy tasks done. Still debating, but it is a front-runner.

    The beauty, and popularity i might add, of ESEE knives is that they are adventure ready knives.
    You dont *have* to upgrade anything on them.
    Good steel, good scales, great sheathes, great look, *best* warranty.
    As far as the Junglas II is concerned, like others, I would say it hits that mythical 1-tool-option pretty well.
    And sense your part of this community im sure you already know all the reasons why.
    Its next on my ESEE list *for* *sure* !!

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson Год назад

      I disagree with that. I feel they need mods immediately. I strip the coating, change the blocky uncomfortable scales, and convex the edge. I guess I’m not crazy about Esee. Don’t really like the Esee 4, it’s probably my least favorite knife. I do the like the Junglas though, it’s a beast.

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409 Год назад

      @shamitoson to each their own. I like the coating on mine, especially since it's 1095.
      I certainly would prefer a convex edge..but I'm too lazy to do it, plus I'm not that good at sharpening..so I'd probably just ruin the edge trying lol. But the v edge works fine either way.
      The old scales, yes, I always change those out, except on the Junglas, but the new ESEE's now come with the nice 3d contoured scales, so that's not really a problem either.
      I'm down to 4 of them.
      Junglas
      E6
      LS
      Izula-II
      That's pretty much all I need.

      @@survivalofthefittest409 convex is the way to go. Just hand sharpen, it’ll end up convexed. Rock slightly on a stone, or sandpaper over leather strop. It’s harder to keep it straight than convexed.

    Just my Opinion. I always saw the Original Junglas as a Backup to a Machete in a Jungle Environment. Hence its name. But for the Eastern Woodlands, where there is a lot less undergrowth to chop through, yet there is a lot of Hardwood to process for a camp (Oak, Maple,etc), the J-2 might be more useful. Other considerations. Size Matters, and someone of a Shorter Stature might want a Big Knife, but not a "Short Sword." Also think of a Military Environment. How big a Knife can one carry w/o it interfering with other gear. Trust me, as a Navy Veteran, I can see the J-2 being used by our Troops a lot more for CQB than a ESEE 4. Finally, think of the BK7 vs the BK9 or the Kabar vs the Big Brother. Different sizes for Different People. Actually, it's kinda a Nice Problem to figure out for a change! Take Care.

    Own the Junglas 1 and 2 and after using the 2 extensively IMO I like it better than the #1..its lighter which requires less energy and work to cut down thick branches/limbs and vines. Due to the weight difference I can tell a very small difference in the speed and way it cuts but I get all that back and then some from the energy saved from not having to swing the heavier #1. The #1 is still a great knife but I prefer the #2 for around the yard work. Also its easier to carry and control due the weight difference.

    I love the idea of the junglas two and I might would have gone for it instead of the junglas whenever I purchased mine a few years ago. I’ve opted for the original junglas on a belt dangler with an opinel no. 8 folder in a neck sheath as my go to set up. It really encompasses everything from shelter building and wood processing with the junglas and it’s big thick blade to game prep and wood carving tasks with the opinel and it’s thin short blade. I would be more inclined to go for the junglas 2 if it had a blade thickness similar to the esee 6. It is just a thought but I’m no knife designer by any means and can not discredit the greatness that esee continues to put out through their knives. Great review man, I would love to see the junglas two in the role of lake game processing to see how it fairs out.

    Just my thoughts owning the Junglas, Junglas II Esee 6 and many other Esee knives, the Junglas II seems to be a one tool option. So it's more of a larger medium or smaller large knife it seems just by its weight and feel that it can be a go between a Esee 6 and Junglas and because of it's unique size it can do many of the things that both can do. The Junglas II as well feels much more balanced in hand vs the old Junglas which makes it feel easier to do finer tasks if need be. So to me this is just my opinion it seems the idea behind the Esee Junglas II is that it can be a weight saving tool because instead of carrying a large and medium or small knife it can kinda do alot of both.

    Thanks for your review! I like the Junglass II because I have a bigger machete and the II gives me the lightest option for confortable batoning, not too big for my hands or heavy; when I don’t need to cut new trails, there is no point to carry the machete, this one is big enough to do much more than a regular big knife without the extra heavy weight of the Junglas I.
    Hunting knives and wood adventures set: Junglas II combined with Izula II and Benchmade Mountain Skinner, Benchmade hidden Canyon for finer details skinning.

    As an owner of The RB3 and an ESEE 6, I can't see me getting the original Junglas. For me, it's just too large. I carry in my bushcraft bag a HB forester axe. So chopping is done using an actual chopping tool.
    If I was to get the Junglas 2, I would for the purpose of a bit larger knife, to replace my ESEE 6, of which I have has for several years.

    It's clearly an in-between or one-tool option. Big enough to do all the chopping and batoning you'd ever want to do with a knife, but still more compact than the bigger choppers. They must have gotten some feedback from customers who wanted something in that size range.

    The Junglas 2 is your one knife option. Drop the RB3! Think about it if you must make a fire no need to baton 8 inchers. Shove the whole log in the fire...duh. Why do people think they need to process giant logs...no need. Where there are big logs there are smaller logs or branches...... use those first!

    Whenever trail weight becomes a concern, theres always a place for smaller and lighter. Size/weight over distance, elevation gain, terrain, and speed/time. Its a delicate balance between capability of the gear and mobility/strength/conditioning of the individual. I will almost always pick weight reduction over capability. My light weight setup is a mora bushcraft and bacho laplander... covers all my needs without (what I consider) excessive weight. Over less strenuous treks I may add an SCHF37m, but its over a pound of steel added to my base weight. Nothing wrong with having choices to pick from when preparing for your adventure.
    Its an interesting discussion topic though... when does being prepared, become being "over-prepared"?... at what point do you draw the line?

    Question Tim, as am about to pull the trigger on the Junglas I or 2.
    Have plenty of choppers in the 9-10" zone.
    But am looking to find a more comfortable replacement for my 2 Ontario RTAK-IIs. Each fitted in different ways.
    My issue has always bee that the RTAK-IIs grip has been too big for me.
    However, all my Esee's area perfect fit, and it looks to me that the Junglas, both being 2" tall, may be the answer.
    They seem smaller in the handle.
    So originally was about to push the button for the Junglas, but am thinking best bet may be get the Junglass II, and then find someone, a way to replace the handles on the RTAKs if it is possible.
    Thoughts on going Junglas II as a comfort large knife backup to the RTAK?
    Any experience?

    Truly I feel a lot of big knives like the big jungales are too big and only comfortable for chopping and very poor bush work or finer work. Big knives that big r so not agile nor precise nor comfy. The essee 6 is great but I truly feel if u want a great chopper that is also more agile for finer work more versatile the 2 is the way to go. The 6 can't chop super well due to weight. But the j2 will Chop better but give u good versatility still allowing finer work so making it an ultimate survival knife. The jungales 1 is just too big for all the jobs.

  • @BradMyers
    @BradMyers 7 лет назад

    We purchased it for basically a one knife solution. The Junglas seemed a little to large for most of our needs, but we wanted something bigger and more heft than the Glock knives we have. The Glocks are nice and light weight and seem durable, but for chopping and such, the Junglas 2 seems to be much better suited. So, that is why we added that to our collection. Basically a nice sized camp knife.

    In my area, lots of pine trees and not too much brush, the esee 6 would be too small to do good work, yes it can do fine stuff but its cold here and we need to be able to chop down trees, so as a 1 tool option goes, the esee 6 is too small and the junglas may be too big to do fine work so the esee junglas ii may fit the bill for a 1 tool option in a cold, heavily wooded area.

    The Junglas 2 would be better for me because the Junglas is a bit big for carrying around camp and the 2 is closer to the size of the schf9 which has always been my go to chopper/survival knife. Love the sheath too BTW. Thanks Tim!

    Very good video,also very good questions. I think I'm less of a one tool option guy and more like the Canucks where as I want a good knife,saw and at least a hatchet,if not a full sized axe.But I do recognize the appeal of traveling light and fast with the one tool.I just don't think it's feasible for me.

    Say Heah, Essee makes a good knife. But I went with a Home Grown Co. I got lucky, because my Swamp Rat Knives are basically in those sizes, Infact I even was able to have my Rodent 6 customized at their Busse Custom Shop. It now looks like a Ratmandu on steroids, my Rodent 7 is just shy of the Jungles 2, but I like the SR101 steel alot better, also the comfort of the Lightning Bolt Style Handles on my Rodent 3, 4, 5, 7, and Rodent 9. I paired most of my knives for my Fav's 2Knife Carries. I went Piggyback on my Rodent 7 and Rodent 3 and likewise my Rodent 9 with my Rodent 4. The Ratmandu, Rodent 5, and my Modde Rodent 6 I mostly use as a Basic Trio Carry, although I did Combo my Ratmandu with my Rodent Rucki as one of my all time Fav's Summer Long Knife Combo's. But I can also use my Ratmandu in a basic trio carry. I'm so glad you guys are starting to suggest Combo's. I think most of us will eventually team our knives at one point or another with some sort of Large Knife/Small Knife Combo. You made that point clear, Thanx You, Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

    I use the Junglass II and the model 3MH. Perfect set up for me with my Bah o saw. j2 is a perfect balance knife that God forbid could hold its own in a defensive capacity. Quicker in the hand than original.

    The esee junglas 2 and the esee rb3 would be a good system if you are making miles and want to save weight over the regular junglas, but still want to have capabilities!!!

    ESEE 6 jack of all trades master of none. I like that dream yet it’s just that. Not a chopper not A whittler not a fighting knife. Between Junglas 1 or 2 is just a personal preference. I like more control over a small chopper and with the same thickness but shorter that makes it’s structural integrity stronger. I’m not sure if the junglas 1 is a better chopper with 3 more ounces of weight. Perhaps

    Tim, this knife doesn't fit into any of your systems and never will, send it to me!!! Actually, I don't carry a chopper, I use a saw, there much lighter and faster. Because of the saw I carry a 4" fixed blade which covers my needs. Wouldn't mind having that Junglas 2 because I just like the way it looks!

    • @Wildwestwrangler
      @Wildwestwrangler 4 года назад

      Even with a saw the bigger knife allows you to work with bigger materials that you are limiting yourself with only a 4 inch knife. Say for example you get a fire going but everything is soaking wet at least you could get bigger dry wood easier, so that way you can stoke up your fire sooner to last longer if you need to fetch water or forage and leave the fire for Abit.

    less sharpening to do maybe not expecting to do as much choping because you have a saw in your system but you need to baton some small logs i think it would definitely have a place .

    A 7" blade makes a good fighting knife so this could appeal to the military. Also if you just want to bring one knife it's a Jack of all trades Master of none type of knife. A third reason is if you hunt in dense Brown Bear country a 7" blade is the largest practical size for field dressing and if I get tackled by a bear I'd rather have a big knife than a small one. This actually does happen here although it's rare. Nice channel!

    Why no ESEE 5 in the comparison? OK, my take: If I had a Silky saw with me, I'd probably not really need something big like the Junglas for cross-cutting and might then have to choose between the ESEE 6 and Junglas II for general heavy work. If I was expecting to do lots of slashing (undergrowth etc) I would probably go for the Junglas instead (of a machete). The ESEE 6 is a problem for me. For strength there is ESEE 5 and for reach and chopping there's Junglas /II. So ESEE 6 seems a bit superfluous? With all of them one would need one of the smaller knives for finer work, this goes without saying. Part of the enjoyment of using knives is putting together your selection based on the anticipated need at any particular time and/or place. NO one knife does it all. In most cases if you can have a knife you can have two, or even three. I don't believe in One-knife scenarios, as they are unrealistic. One doesn't just end up in wilderness situations out of nowhere. The century-old motto of the Boy Scouts movement is still valid today: "Be Prepared!"

    • @dennisleighton2812
      @dennisleighton2812 2 года назад

      After a break, during which I have done much thinking, I have come up with a set of guidelines for the outdoors, and specifically, for the preparation one should do. A very important area of preparation is in tool selection:
      Guidelines: For cross-cutting, use a saw; for splitting, use an axe, or wedges; for splitting out boards, shingles or tiles, use a froe; for cutting, use knives; for slashing, use a machete; for digging, use a spade. These are the tools that do specialised work the most efficiently, so why use inefficient tools for the wrong job?

    I think the Junglas 2 is a better "Survival" knife or 1 tool option and the original Junglas is better used as a choppa and paired with a smaller knife in a system , just My Opinion....👍🖖

    If you can ONLY have one knife the Zombie Apocalypse to do most things...Junglas 2 all the way.
    If two knives is the option, it's the Junglas and the Esee 3.

  • @ChateauBeaufort
    @ChateauBeaufort Год назад

    The further South you go the larger the knife you get?!… I am on Vancouver Island in friendlier Canada: For chopping use an Axe… My belt knives stop @ ~ 8” of blade… & 5.5” “Locking” grip… 13.5” OAL so that hanging from the belt they can still nose dock comfortably into the Jeans/Shorts right pocket, easy enough to sit in the Pick-Up, or riding in the Canoe. ESEE 1095 Is way too soft, & just does not cut the mustard for me: @ 8” I can use 5mm stock S35VN properly Heat Treated 2-4 points Harder, for the same toughness (you ought not chase toughness by softening the steel: Choose a tougher Steel, eg: 1084 & the like). The Junglass II (14.5” OAL) is closer to what I can use around here… for gardening a real machete is best (@ a fraction of a ESEE cost too)

    Id put it in a class different than the 6 and junglas. I'd use it more along the lines of it with a smaller blade so you have a hybrid chopper / 6 with a smaller companion for smaller tasks
    All great knives.

    They are all great it's to tough to pick one so don't fret just by them all. Start with the RB3 then the jungles and fill in the middle. If you can't afford one, do an odd job somewhere to fill in the middle you won't regret it. Charge somebody or a group of nonwoods people ( Best.found at a law firm or tech. company) to teach a class on making fire or use of a compass or something like that . Just somesuggestions . Good luck and save your back for retirement.
